New n-type molecular semiconductor–doped insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions combining a triphenodioxazine (TPDO) and the lutetium bisphthalocyanine (Lu…

2018

International audience; Molecular semiconductor–doped insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions were designed using a new family of sublayers, namely triphenodioxazines (TPDO). The device obtained by combining the tetracyano triphenodioxazine bearing two triisopropylsilylethynyl moieties as a sublayer with the lutetium bisphthalocyanine (LuPc2) as a top layer showed a nonlinear current–voltage characteristic independent of the sign of the polarization, which is the signature of MSDI heterojunctions. Thus, a TPDO was used in a chemical sensor for the first time. Despite LuPc2 being the only material exposed to the atmosphere, the positive response of the device under ammonia revealed the key role pla…

High-pressure and high-temperature X-ray diffraction studies of scheelite BaWO4

2009

International audience; We carried out high-pressure (HP) and high-temperature (HT) in situ ADXRD synchrotron measurements in barium tungstate (BaWO4 ) up to 7.5 GPa and 800 K. Coexistence of the scheelite and fergusonite structures was found beyond 7 GPa, both at room temperature and HT, suggesting a polymorphism zone in the P –T phase diagram. The experiments are complemented by thermodynamic calculations within the quasi-harmonic approximation. At ambient pressure, a volume thermal expansivity of 9.5 × 10− 6 K−1 was obtained for scheelite BaWO4 . At HP, the thermal expansivity of the fergusonite doubles that of scheelite. Theoretical equation of state curves at HP and HT are also present…

Influence of fluorine on the synthesis of anatase TiO2for photocatalytic partial oxidation: Are exposed facets the main actors?

2018

Anatase TiO2 samples were synthesized in the presence of different amounts of HF acid with the aim of understanding the effect of the presence of fluorine on the photocatalytic activity. It is well known that the presence of fluoride ions influences the photocatalytic performance by adsorption on the surface of TiO2 and that they are capping agents in the control of specific exposed facets. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis spectrophotometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic activity was eva…

Determination of the crystallinity of TiO2 photocatalysts

2018

Abstract This study reports a new simple method to determine the crystallinity of anatase and rutile TiO2 photocatalysts. The crystallinity degree of various anatase and rutile samples was estimated by XRD analysis from the ratio among the full width at half maximum intensities of the main diffraction peaks of anatase or rutile and the (111) peak of CaF2 as internal standard. The photocatalytic activity of selected powders was tested employing the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol in aqueous solution as probe reaction. The results showed that the photoactivity of the investigated samples increased with increasing crystallinity and crystallite size.

Visible light photocatalytic activity of macro-mesoporous TiO2-CeO2inverse opals

2018

Macro-mesoporous TiO2 inverse opal materials were synthesized and they were tested as photocatalysts under visible light irradiation. The influence of cerium oxide addition towards the Rhodamine B (RhB) photodegradation activity was evaluated. Structural, textural, spectral and surface properties of the TiO2-CeO2 inverse opal nanocomposites were studied by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, N2 adsorption-desorption, Diffuse Reflectance UV–vis and Photoluminescence spectroscopies. Compared to commercial TiO2 anatase, the macro-mesoporous TiO2 inverse opal exhibited six times higher kinetic rate constant in the RhB degradation under visible light irradiation. The good photocatalytic activity was related to …

Theoretical study on the influence of electric field direction on the photovoltaic performance of aryl amine organic dyes for dye-sensitized solar ce…

2019

It is very important to reveal the influence of different electric field directions on dye sensitizers. Thus, in this study, we investigated the electronic structures and optical properties of six designed aryl amine organic dye models under different electric fields using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). Moreover, the electronic structures and optical properties of these studied dyes with different electric field in tetrahydrofuran (THF) were also calculated. The key parameters of the short-circuit current density (Jsc), including light harvesting efficiency (LHE) and intra-molecular charge transfer (ICT), are discussed in detail. With …

Hybrid TiO2 @ phthalocyanine catalysts in photooxidation of 4-nitrophenol: Effect of the matrix and sensitizer type

2020

Abstract Microcrystalline and nanocrystalline anatase (TiO2) based hybrid photocatalysts including selected phthalocyanine sensitizers were explored in photooxidation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in water. Composites obtained with the homemade pure nano-anatase displayed a very poor catalytic performance compared to the other ones prepared from the commercial Tioxide-Huntsman (micro) and Evonik P25 (nano) products. In particular, the microcrystalline anatase impregnated with sandwich phthalocyanines of Gd or Yb showed excellent results both in photooxidation of 4-NP and hydroquinone, and proved the only ones which completely removed these two compounds from the system during the same reaction cy…

NiO diluted in high surface area TiO2 as efficient catalysts for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane

2017

[EN] Catalysts consisting of NiO diluted in high surface area TiO2 can be as efficient in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane as the most selective NiO-promoted catalysts reported previously in the literature. By selecting the titania matrix and the NiO loading, yields to ethylene over 40% have been obtained. In the present article, three different titanium oxides (TiO2) have been employed as supports or diluters of nickel oxide and have been tested in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene. All TiO2 used present anatase as the main crystalline phase and different surface areas of 11,55 and 85 m(2) g(-1). It has been observed that by selecting an appropriate nickel loading …

Photoactivity of shape-controlled TiO2 in gas-solid regime under solar irradiation

2019

Abstract Differently shape-controlled anatase TiO2 materials were tested as photocatalysts under both simulated and natural solar irradiation. Their photocatalytic activity in 2-propanol and propene partial oxidation and in the complete mineralization of acetaldehyde appears to increase with decreasing the shape control of the TiO2 material. This insight seems to be related to the residual presence of the templating species (fluoride anions) employed during the preparation of the shape-controlled TiO2 materials. In fact, the calcination of the powders, leading to levelling of the fluoride ions content, but also to a remarkable surface area decrease, gave rise to an increase of photocatalyti…
