Hybrid molecular conductors

2005

One of the most important trends in the field of organic conductors aims towards the design of hybrid materials, following the strategy of combining in a single compound organic cationic radicals able to give rise to conducting architectures with functional molecular anions able to add a second physical property of interest. Ferromagnetic metals, magnetic superconductors, chiral conductors and switchable conductors are some of the most recent and spectacular materials obtained from this approach. The design and physical studies of some relevant examples are discussed and highlighted.

Cluster superconductivity in the magnetoelectric Pb(Fe1/2Sb1/2)O3 ceramics

2016

We report the observation of cluster (local) superconductivity in the magnetoelectric Pb(Fe1/2Sb1/2)O3 ceramics prepared at a hydrostatic pressure of 6 GPa and temperatures 1200-1800 K to stabilize the perovskite phase. The superconductivity is manifested by an abrupt drop of the magnetic susceptibility at the critical temperature TC 7 K. Both the magnitude of this drop and TC decrease with magnetic field increase. Similarly, the low-field paramagnetic absorption measured by EPR spectrometer drops significantly below TC as well. The observed effects and their critical magnetic field dependence are interpreted as manifestation of the superconductivity and Meissner effect in metallic Pb nanoc…

Near-Edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure Investigation of the Quasi-One-Dimensional Organic Conductor (TMTSF)2PF6

2016

We present high-resolution near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) measurements at the P L2/3-edges, F K-edge, C K-edge and Se M2/3-edges of the quasi-one-dimensional (1D) conductor and superconductor (TMTSF)2PF6. NEXAFS allows probing the donor and acceptor moieties separately; spectra were recorded between room temperature (RT) and 30 K at normal incidence. Spectra taken around RT were also studied as a function of the angle (θ) between the electric field of the X-ray beam and the 1D conducting direction. In contrast with a previous study of the S L2/3-edges spectra in (TMTTF)2AsF6, the Se M2/3-edges of (TMTSF)2PF6 do not exhibit a well resolved spectrum. Surprisingly, the C K-…

Possible light-induced superconductivity in K3C60 at high temperature.

2015

The non-equilibrium control of emergent phenomena in solids is an important research frontier, encompassing effects such as the optical enhancement of superconductivity. Nonlinear excitation of certain phonons in bilayer copper oxides was recently shown to induce superconducting-like optical properties at temperatures far greater than the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. This effect was accompanied by the disruption of competing charge-density-wave correlations, which explained some but not all of the experimental results. Here we report a similar phenomenon in a very different compound, K3C60. By exciting metallic K3C60 with mid-infrared optical pulses, we induce a large increas…

Proximity Effects on the Charge Density Wave Order and Superconductivity in Single-Layer NbSe2

2021

Collective electronic states such as the charge density wave (CDW) order and superconductivity (SC) respond sensitively to external perturbations. Such sensitivity is dramatically enhanced in two dimensions (2D), where 2D materials hosting such electronic states are largely exposed to the environment. In this regard, the ineludible presence of supporting substrates triggers various proximity effects on 2D materials that may ultimately compromise the stability and properties of the electronic ground state. In this work, we investigate the impact of proximity effects on the CDW and superconducting states in single-layer (SL) NbSe2 on four substrates of diverse nature, namely, bilayer graphene…

On the superconductivity of graphite interfaces

2014

We propose an explanation for the appearance of superconductivity at the interfaces of graphite with Bernal stacking order. A network of line defects with flat bands appears at the interfaces between two slightly twisted graphite structures. Due to the flat band the probability to find high temperature superconductivity at these quasi one-dimensional corridors is strongly enhanced. When the network of superconducting lines is dense it becomes effectively two-dimensional. The model provides an explanation for several reports on the observation of superconductivity up to room temperature in different oriented graphite samples, graphite powders as well as graphite-composite samples published i…

θ0 thermal Josephson junction

2017

We predict the thermal counterpart of the anomalous Josephson effect in superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor junctions with non-coplanar magnetic texture. The heat current through the junction is shown to have the phase-sensitive interference component proportional to $\cos(\theta - \theta_0)$, where $\theta$ is the Josephson phase difference and $\theta_0$ is the texture-dependent phase shift. In the generic tri-layer magnetic structure with the spin-filtering tunnel barrier $\theta_0$ is determined by the spin chirality of magnetic configuration and can be considered as the direct manifestation of the energy transport with participation of spin-triplet Cooper pairs. In case of the id…

Macroscopic persistent currents in laser deposited YBa2Cu3O7 films

1989

We have investigated persistent currents in a superconducting YBa2Cu3O7 ring of about 1 cm diameter, which was deposited as c-axis textured film on a SrTiO3 substrate by laser ablation. The currents were registered, via their magnetic field distribution, with a small vibrating pick-up coil. At 77 K persistent currents with negligible decay over 103 s have been observed below a critical current density jc=0.9×105 A/cm2, both for a field-cooled and a zero-field-cooled sample. This demonstrates that it is possible to fabricate dissipationless devices of such films on a relatively large scale.

Extreme sensitivity of superconductivity to stoichiometry in Fe1+?Se

2009

The recently discovered iron arsenide superconductors appear to display a universal set of characteristic features, including proximity to a magnetically ordered state and robustness of the superconductivity in the presence of disorder. Here we show that superconductivity in Fe1+?Se, which can be considered the parent compound of the superconducting arsenide family, is destroyed by very small changes in stoichiometry. Further, we show that nonsuperconducting Fe1+?Se is not magnetically ordered down to 5 K. These results suggest that robust superconductivity and immediate instability against an ordered magnetic state should not be considered as intrinsic characteristics of iron-based superco…

Influence of micro-structure in the low temperature critical currents of YBa2Cu3O7?? thin films

1996

Epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7−δ films nucleate in c-axis oriented single-crystalline islands. The surface of the single-crystalline SrTiO3 substrates exhibit steps of one third of the YBa2Cu3O7−δ c-axis. These steps generate a mismatch in the island boundaries between the CuO2 superconducting blocks. We show that these defect regions are strong candidates for being the pinning centers responsible for the large critical currents observed in Laser Ablated and Sputtered thin films.
