Interactions between proteins and poly(ethylene-glycol) investigated using molecular dynamics simulations

Poly(ethylene-glycol) (PEG) is a polymer used to coat therapeutic preparations, like drugs or drug nanocarriers, and improve their efficacy. This effect is probably due to a reduction of the interactions of the coated species with the host organism. Nevertheless, experiments show that PEGylated materials do interact with the surrounding biological milieu, and in particular with blood proteins. Here, we use atomistic molecular dynamics simulations to characterize the interactions between the polymer and several blood proteins. Syntheses, structures and magnetic properties of cyano-bridged one-dimensional Ln3+–Fe3+ (Ln = La, Dy, Ho and Yb) coordination polymers

Four new heterometallic one-dimensional coordination polymers with formulae trans-[La(o-phen)3(H2O)(μ-CN)2Fe(CN)4]·7H2O (1) and trans-[Ln(H2O)2(phen)2(μ-CN)2Fe(CN)4]·nH2O [Ln/n = Dy/8 (2), Ho/7 (3) and Yb/7 (4), (o-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline)] have been synthesized by reacting Ln(NO3)3·xH2O with K3[Fe(CN)6] and 1,10-phenanthroline. The structures of 1–4 have been established by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Polymer 1 presents a chain structure with three o-phen ligands coordinated to La3+ and [Fe(CN)6]3− complexes connecting them through two trans CN− ligands to form a linear chain. Bromide hydrogen oxalate salts with the diprotonated 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane counterion

Abstract Two new salts composed of the diprotonated 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) molecule as the cations and bromide and hydrogen oxalate as the anions have been isolated and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. The salt [DABCOH2]{[HC2O4][Br]} (1) crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group P212121 with a = 9.0809(7), b = 9.5156(7), c = 12.3558(9) Å, V = 1067.67(14) Å3 and Z = 4. Isolation of Alkaloids from Cultured Hybrid Cells of Rauwolfia serpentina*Rhazya stricta.

Two monoterpenoid indole alkaloids and four β-carbolines were isolated from a hydrid cell suspension culture generated from two Apocynaceous plants, Rauwolfia serpentina Benth. and Rhazya stricta Decaisne. This indicates that the function of alkoloid biosynthesis is retained after hybrid formation and that alkaloids not previously detected in the parental plants or cell cultures are formed.

The syntheses, structures and magnetic properties of the compounds of formula [FeIII(4-Br-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]0.67Cl0.33·CH3OH_solvate (1), [FeIII(3-Br-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3CN)2 (2), [FeIII(3-Cl-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3OH)2·(CH3CN)2 (3) and [FeIII(3-CH3O-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3OH)·(H2O)1.5·(CH2Cl2)0.5 (4) are reported. We report on the study of the electrochemically targeted complexation/expulsion of a metal cation (Ba2+) by a crown ether tetra(thiomethyl)tetrathiafulvalene derivative (crown-TTM-TTF). Real time, in situ FTIR spectroelectrochemistry was used to obtain spectroscopic evidence of this electrochemically triggered phenomenon. Density functional theory calculations allowed the spectral information collected to be assigned. Both experimental and theoretical results clearly show that neutral crown-TTM-TTF complexes well Ba2+. Controllable membrane remodeling by a modified fragment of the apoptotic protein Bax.

Intrinsic apoptosis is orchestrated by a group of proteins that mediate the coordinated disruption of mitochondrial membranes. Bax is a multi-domain protein that, upon activation, disrupts the integrity of the mitochondrial outer membrane by forming pores. We strategically introduced glutamic acids into a short sequence of the Bax protein that constitutively creates membrane pores. The resulting BaxE5 peptide efficiently permeabilizes membranes at acidic pH, showing low permeabilization at neutral pH. Understanding the impact of poly(allylamine) plasma grafting on the filtration performances of a commercial polymeric membrane

Abstract Commercial membranes often exhibit difficulties in rejecting specific ionic species, and especially multivalent cations, due to their usual negative charge. To face this drawback, it is proposed here to functionalize the membrane surface by allylamine plasma polymerization. The impact of this modification on both permeation flux and ion rejection is investigated for single salt solutions and ion mixtures. Self-assembly of fluorescent diimidazolium salts: tailor properties of the aggregates changing alkyl chain features

Searching for new fluorescent organic salts to be used in biomedical and electrochemical field, we conjugated properties of imidazolium salts with the ones of naphthalene diimide core and we obtained some N,N′-bis-(1-alkyl-3-propylimidazolium)naphthalene diimide diiodides. We took into account alkyl chains going from hexyl to dodecyl, as well as hydrogenated and fluorinated alkyl tails.
