Competing R&D Joint Ventures in Cournot oligopoly with spillovers
2014
This paper considers competition between R&D cartels, whereby prospective Cournot competitors coordinate their R&D decisions in order to maximize joint profit. It studies how R&D activity, aggregate profit, consumer surplus, and social welfare vary as the number of competing cartels varies. It also compares equilibrium with second best R&D, and discusses the policy implications of the results. The results show that the effects of R&D cartel competition depend on the welfare criterion adopted and on whether there are cooperative synergies or not.

The use of results of spectral analysis of synchronous generator output voltage for technical diagnostics.

The method of technical diagnostics of ship diesel engine-generator installations is offered. Spectral-power diagnostic parameters of the synchronous generator voltage and currents are used. The electric machine in this case is the multipurpose sensor of diagnostic parameters. On these parameters it is possible to judge quality of course of working processes in diesel engine cylinder, its technical condition. This method is applicable to piston compressor installations with the electric drive.
A Contribution to Tests Standardization for Inverter-Fed Asynchronous Machines

Losses of inverter-fed asynchronous motors and their experimental evaluation are considered. The formal expressions of iron and copper losses are first recalled, and it is shown as they are influenced by the harmonic content of inverter output voltages. Theoretical and experimental values of these losses are then given together with the presentation of the experimental tests used for their determination. A suitable set of tests is then suggested for the determination of the conventional efficiency of inverter-fed asynchronous motors. The content cannot be considered exhaustive on the matter. The fundamental idea of this paper is to use the distribution theory to analyze linear machines in order to include in the mathematical model both ideal and non ideal features. This paper shows how distribution theory can be used to establish a mathematical model able to describe both the ordinary working condition of a Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) as well the role of the unavoidable irregularities and non ideal features.

This article explores the socio-political background that led to widespread Native American urban relocation in the period following World War II – a historical episode which is featured in Leslie Marmon Silko’s acclaimed novel Ceremony (1977). Through an analysis of the recycling, reinterpreting practices carried out by one of Ceremony’s memorable supporting characters, Navajo healer Betonie, Silko’s political aim to interrogate the state of things and to re-value Native traditions in a context of ongoing relations of coloniality is made most clear.
