Intrinsic superoxide dismutase activity of MnO nanoparticles enhances the magnetic resonance imaging contrast

2020

Superoxide radicals are associated with the development of many severe diseases, such as cancer. Under nonpathogenic conditions, the natural enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) regulates the intracellular superoxide concentrations, but nearly all tumor tissues show reduced SOD levels. Selective imaging in early progression stages remains a key requirement for efficient cancer diagnosis and treatment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a noninvasive tool with high spatial resolution may offer advantages here, but MRI contrast agents exhibiting a redox-triggered change in the image contrast towards superoxide radicals have not been reported so far. Here we show that manganese oxide (MnO) nanop…

Study of the Curing Process of DGEBA Epoxy Resin Through Structural Investigation

2015

In this work, a multi-scale approach with different analytical methods is applied to study the curing process and the structural properties of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy resin. This monomer, thermally cured using 4,4′-diaminodiphenilsulfone (DDS) as hardener, is analyzed after 10, 45, 90, and 120 min of reaction time at 180 °C to obtain information on samples with different cross-linking densities. Samples are also characterized after extraction in acetone in order to obtain structural information on the insoluble parts. For this purpose, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ss-NMR),…

The [Fe(etz)6](BF4)2 Spin-Crossover System - Part Two: Hysteresis in the LIESST Regime

1996

In the [Fe(etz)6](BF4)2 spincrossover system the iron(II) complexes occupy two nonequivalent lattice sites, sites A and B. Complexes on site A show a thermal high-spin (HS) low-spin (LS) transition at 105 K, whereas complexes on site B remain in the HS state down to 10 K. Complexes on both sites exhibit light-induced spin state conversions (LIESST) at 20 K: LS HS on site A with = 514.5 nm, and HS LS on site B with = 820 nm. The relaxation processes subsequent to the HS LS conversion on site B reveal a light-induced HSLS bistability for the complexes on site B at 70 K. The bistability as well as the absence of a thermal spin transition on site B are attributed to a thermal hysteresis for the…

Development and characterization of an experimental model of diet-induced metabolic syndrome in rabbit

2017

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) has become one of the main concerns for public health because of its link to cardiovascular disease. Murine models have been used to study the effect of MetS on the cardiovascular system, but they have limitations for studying cardiac electrophysiology. In contrast, the rabbit cardiac electrophysiology is similar to human, but a detailed characterization of the different components of MetS in this animal is still needed. Our objective was to develop and characterize a diet-induced experimental model of MetS that allows the study of cardiovascular remodeling and arrhythmogenesis. Male NZW rabbits were assigned to control (n = 15) or MetS group (n = 16), fed during 2…

Griffonianone D, an isoflavone with anti-inflammatory activity from the root bark of Millettia griffoniana.

2003

A new isoflavone, griffonianone D (1), and the previously known compounds durmillone and odorantin were isolated from a chloroform extract of the root bark of Millettia griffoniana. The structure of 1 was established as (7E)-(6",7"-dihydroxy-3",7"-dimethyloct-2"-enyl)oxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone on the basis of its spectral data. The chloroform extract of the root bark of M. griffoniana and compound 1 showed anti-inflammatory effects in different experimental models of inflammation.

Tucupentol, a novel mono-tetrahydrofuranic acetogenin from Annona montana, as a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial complex I.

2009

Ten acetogenins, one of them new, were isolated from leaves and twigs of a Bolivian collection of Annona montana. The new compound that we named tucupentol (1) is a mono-tetrahydrofuranpentahydroxy-acetogenin. The inhibitory potency of tucupentol (1) on the mitochondrial complex I was evaluated, and this activity was compared with that of the known acetogenins, annonacin-A, cisannonacin-10-one, aromin, and gigantetronenin, also isolated from this plant material. The mentioned acetogenins acted as selective inhibitors of mitochondrial complex I in the 0.8-5.4-nM range. Fil: Álvarez Colom, Olga. Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. Dipole moments of 4′-aminoflavonols determined using electro-optical absorption measurements or molecular Stark-effect spectroscopy

2002

The electro-optical absorption measurements (EOAM) were used to measure the dipole moments of the normal form of 4 -(methoxy)-3hydroxyflavone (FOM), 4 -(dimethylamino)-3-hydroxyflavone (FME), and 4 -N-(15-azacrown-5)-3-hydroxyflavone (FCR). For these probes the excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) takes place. For comparison, the dipole moments of 4 -(dimethylamino)-3methoxyflavone (FME3ME), for which ESIPT is lacking, were measured. In the case of FCR, FME, and FME3ME the equilibrated ground (µg) and excited Franck–Condon state (µ FC ) electrical dipole moments are parallel to each other and also parallel to the transition dipole moment. The electrical dipole moment…

The deformation tensor ∊ of the spin transition in the mixed crystal [Fe0.46Zn0.54(ptz)6](BF4)2

2004

The conversion of the spin state of complexes exhibiting thermal spin crossover from the1A1low-spin (LS) state to the5T2high-spin (HS) state is accompanied by a deformation of the lattice due to the larger bond lengths in the HS state as compared with the LS state. In a previous work [Kuszet al.(2000).J. Appl. Cryst.33, 201–205], it has been shown that the deformation of the lattice, corrected for its temperature dependence, can be described by an almost temperature-independent tensor ∊ multiplied by the fraction of molecules in the HS state, γHS. Here the dependence of ∊ in a mixed single crystal of [Fe0.46Zn0.54(ptz)6](BF4)2(ptz = propyltetrazole) with a transition temperature near 110 K …

Development of an Easily Bioconjugatable Water-Soluble Single-Photon Emission-Computed Tomography/Optical Imaging Bimodal Imaging Probe Based on the …

2021

A water-soluble fluorescent aza-BODIPY platform (Wazaby) was prepared and functionalized by a polyazamacrocycle agent and a bioconjugable arm. The resulting fluorescent derivative was characterized and bioconjugated onto a trastuzumab monoclonal antibody as a vector. After bioconjugation, the imaging agent appeared to be stable in serum (>72 h at 37 °C) and specifically labeled HER-2-positive breast tumors slices. The bioconjugate was radiolabeled with [111In] indium and studied in vivo. The developed monomolecular multimodal imaging probe (MOMIP) is water-soluble and chemically and photochemically stable, emits in the near infrared (NIR) region (734 nm in aqueous media), and displays a goo…

Orientational glass behaviour of K Br0.96(CN)0.04

1981

Ultrasonic measurements on the mixed crystal K Br0.96(CN)0.04 show a minimum of most of the elastic constants at 16 K. In addition we determinedc11(T) at 10 MHz and at 50 MHz observing dispersion effects. These results and previous Brillouin and neutron scattering results of other authors on higher CN-concentrations are interpreted by an orientational glass behaviour. A semiquantitative description is given in terms of the mean random field approximation.
