Swift-ion-induced hardening and reduction of dislocation mobility in LiF crystals

2008

Ion-induced change in Vickers hardness and arm length of dislocation rosettes created by indentation on the (1 0 0) face of LiF crystals was studied. The irradiations were performed using swift U, Bi and Ni ions with a specific energy of 11 MeV per nucleon at fluences between 106 and 1013 ions cm−2. Remarkable effects of the ion-induced hardening and reduction of dislocation arm length were observed above the threshold fluences of about 109–1010 ions cm−2 and 106–107 ions cm−2, respectively. The products of track core damage and aggregates of single defects in the halo of overlapping tracks are responsible for the effects. The results are analysed using the Orowan's model of dislocation imp…

Isospin 0 and 1 resonances from pi Sigma photoproduction data

2013

Recently we presented a successful strategy to extract the position of the two Lambda ( 1405) poles from experimental photoproduction data on the gamma p -> K+pi(0)Sigma(0) reaction at Jefferson Lab. Following a similar strategy, we extend the previous method to incorporate also the isospin 1 component which allows us to consider in addition the experimental data on gamma p -> K+pi(+/-)Sigma(-/+). The idea is based on considering a production mechanism as model independent as possible and implementing the final state interaction of the final meson-baryon pair based on small modifications of the unitary chiral perturbation theory amplitudes. Good fits to the data are obtained with this proce…

(K)over-bar N N absorption within the framework of the fixed-center approximation to Faddeev equations

2013

We present a method to evaluate the (K) over bar absorption width in the bound (K) over bar N N system. Most calculations of this system ignore this channel and only consider the (K) over bar N -> pi Sigma conversion. Other works make a qualitative calculation using perturbative methods. Since the (1405) resonance is playing a role in the process, the same resonance is changed by the presence of the absorption channels andwe find that a full nonperturbative calculation is called for, which we present here. We employ the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations to account for (K) over bar rescattering on the (NN) cluster and we find that the width of the states found previously for S …

Investigating the role of strangeness in baryon–antibaryon annihilation at the LHC

2022

Annihilation dynamics plays a fundamental role in the baryon–antibaryon interaction (B–B‾) at low-energy and its strength and range are crucial in the assessment of possible baryonic bound states. Experimental data on annihilation cross sections are available for the p–p‾ system but not in the low relative momentum region. Data regarding the B–B‾ interaction with strange degrees of freedom are extremely scarce, hence the modeling of the annihilation contributions is mainly based on nucleon–antinucleon (N–N‾) results, when available. In this letter we present a measurement of the p–p‾, p–Λ‾⊕p‾–Λ and Λ–Λ‾ interaction using correlation functions in the relative momentum space in high-multiplic…

Measurement ofνμandν¯μinduced neutral current singleπ0production cross sections on mineral oil atEν∼O(1 GeV)

2010

MiniBooNE reports the first absolute cross sections for neutral current single {pi}{sup 0} production on CH{sub 2} induced by neutrino and antineutrino interactions measured from the largest sets of NC {pi}{sup 0} events collected to date. The principal result consists of differential cross sections measured as functions of {pi}{sup 0} momentum and {pi}{sup 0} angle averaged over the neutrino flux at MiniBooNE. We find total cross sections of (4.76 {+-} 0.05{sub stat} {+-} 0.40{sub sys}) x 10{sup -40} cm{sup 2}/nucleon at a mean energy of = 808 MeV and (1.48 {+-} 0.05{sub stat} {+-} 0.14{sub sys}) x 10{sup -40} cm{sup 2}/nucleon at a mean energy of = 664 MeV for {nu}{sub {mu}} and {bar {nu}…

Mechanistic insights into the phosphoryl transfer reaction in cyclin-dependent kinase 2: a QM/MM study

2019

AbstractCyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) is an important member of the CDK family exerting its most important function in the regulation of the cell cycle. It catalyzes the transfer of the gamma phosphate group from an ATP (adenosine triphosphate) molecule to a Serine/Threonine residue of a peptide substrate. Due to the importance of this enzyme, and protein kinases in general, a detailed understanding of the reaction mechanism is desired. Thus, in this work the phosphoryl transfer reaction catalyzed by CDK2 was revisited and studied by means of hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations. Our results show that the base-assisted mechanism is preferred over the substrat…

Complete Measurement of the Λ Electromagnetic Form Factors.

2019

The exclusive process e+e−→ΛΛ¯, with Λ→pπ− and Λ¯→p¯π+, has been studied at s=2.396 GeV for measurement of the timelike Λ electric and magnetic form factors, GE and GM. A data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 66.9 pb−1, was collected with the BESIII detector for this purpose. A multidimensional analysis with a complete decomposition of the spin structure of the reaction enables a determination of the modulus of the ratio R=|GE/GM| and, for the first time for any baryon, the relative phase ΔΦ=ΦE−ΦM. The resulting values are R=0.96±0.14(stat)±0.02(syst) and ΔΦ=37°±12°(stat)±6°(syst), respectively. These are obtained using the recently established and most precise value of …

Lifetime measurements of excited states in neutron-rich nuclei around 48 Ca

2009

The lifetimes of the first excited states of the N = 30 isotones 50Ca and 51Sc and the Z = 18 isotopes 44−46Ar isotopes have been determined using a novel technique that combines the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift method with the CLARA-PRISMA spectrometers in multinucleon transfer reactions. The results allow determinination of the effective charges above 48Ca and test the strength of the N = 28 magic number when moving away from the stability line.
