Neutral-current effects in elastic electron-nucleon scattering

Low-energy corrections to the eikonal description of elastic scattering and breakup of one-neutron halo nuclei in nuclear-dominated reactions
2018
Background: The eikonal approximation is a high-energy reaction model, which is very computationally efficient and provides a simple interpretation of the collision. Unfortunately, it is not valid at energies around 10 MeV/nucleon, the range of energy of HIE-ISOLDE at CERN and the future ReA12 at MSU. Fukui et al. [Phys. Rev. C 90, 034617 (2014)10.1103/PhysRevC.90.034617] have shown that a simple semiclassical correction of the projectile-target deflection could improve the description of breakup of halo nuclei on heavy targets down to 20 MeV/nucleon. Purpose: We study two similar corrections, which aim at improving the projectile-target relative motion within the eikonal approximation, wit…
Two-nucleon mechanism for antiproton annihilation in nuclei
1986
Abstract The annihilation probability of an antiproton inside a nucleus is evaluated via the p NN → N n π reaction. For that purpose the p N→( n +1)π reaction is started from and one of the pions is allowed to be virtual, carrying the appropriate energy and momentum to produce physical particle-hole excitations. The new mechanism proves to be very important: at nuclear densities around ϱ = 0.2 ϱ 0 it has about the same strength as the one-nucleon annihilation mechanism, and becomes much more important as the nuclear density increases. The repercussion of the new channel in the p -nucleus annihilation cross section is studied and its relevance in p atoms and p -nucleus elastic scattering is …
Measurement of the neutrino neutral-current elastic differential cross section on mineral oil atEν∼1 GeV
2010
We report a measurement of the flux-averaged neutral-current elastic differential cross section for neutrinos scattering on mineral oil (CH{sub 2}) as a function of four-momentum transferred squared, Q{sup 2}. It is obtained by measuring the kinematics of recoiling nucleons with kinetic energy greater than 50 MeV which are readily detected in MiniBooNE. This differential cross-section distribution is fit with fixed nucleon form factors apart from an axial mass M{sub A} that provides a best fit for M{sub A}=1.39{+-}0.11 GeV. Using the data from the charged-current neutrino interaction sample, a ratio of neutral-current to charged-current quasielastic cross sections as a function of Q{sup 2} …
The Mainz A4 parity violation experiment (single spin asymmetries in elastic scattering)
2005
Abstract The A4 experiment at the MAMI facility in Mainz measures a parity violating single spin asymmetry in the scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons off unpolarized protons. The longitudinal single spin asymmetry is parity violating and arises from the interference of the weak and electromagnetic one-boson exchange amplitude. It is sensitive to the strangeness contribution to the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon. Recently the transverse single spin asymmetry has gained much interest. It is purely electromagnetic in origin and arises from the interference of the one-photon with the two-photon exchange amplitude. It is a time-odd quantity and sensitive to the imaginar…
Nuclear tests for the strange charge from factor of the nucleon
1992
Abstract It is shown that the measurements of elastic and inelastic scattering of neutrinos and parity-violating asymmetry of longitudinally polarized electrons on spin-isospin zero nuclei would yield model independent information about the strangeness charge form factor. Nunerical estimates of the contribution of this form factor are presented for 4 He, 12 C and 16 O nuclei in impulse approximation using strangeness vector from factors of the nucleon recently suggested in the literature. A general relation between the P -odd asymmetry in electron scattering and the cross sections of neutrino and unpolarized electron scattering on spin zero nuclei is obtained.
Extension of the ratio method to proton-rich nuclei
2019
The ratio method has been developed to improve the study of one-neutron halo nuclei through reactions. By taking the ratio of angular distributions for two processes, viz. breakup and elastic scattering, this new observable is nearly independent of the reaction mechanism and hence much more sensitive to the projectile structure than the cross sections for each single process. We study the extension of the ratio method to proton-rich nuclei and also explore the optimum experimental conditions for measuring this new observable. We compare accurate dynamical calculations of reactions for proton-rich projectiles to the prediction of the ratio method. We use the dynamical eikonal approximation t…
Measurement of the Transverse Beam Spin Asymmetry in Elastic Electron Proton Scattering and the Inelastic Contribution to the Imaginary Part of the T…
2004
We report on a measurement of the asymmetry in the scattering of transversely polarized electrons off unpolarized protons, A$_\perp$, at two Q$^2$ values of \qsquaredaveragedlow (GeV/c)$^2$ and \qsquaredaveragedhighII (GeV/c)$^2$ and a scattering angle of $30^\circ < _e < 40^\circ$. The measured transverse asymmetries are A$_{\perp}$(Q$^2$ = \qsquaredaveragedlow (GeV/c)$^2$) = (\experimentalasymmetry alulowcorr $\pm$ \statisticalerrorlow$_{\rm stat}$ $\pm$ \combinedsyspolerrorlowalucor$_{\rm sys}$) $\times$ 10$^{-6}$ and A$_{\perp}$(Q$^2$ = \qsquaredaveragedhighII (GeV/c)$^2$) = (\experimentalasymme tryaluhighcorr $\pm$ \statisticalerrorhigh$_{\rm stat}$ $\pm$ \combinedsyspolerrorhi…
Nucleon-to-Delta transition form factors in chiral effective field theory using the complex-mass scheme
2018
We calculate the form factors of the electromagnetic nucleon-to-$\Delta$-resonance transition to third chiral order in manifestly Lorentz-invariant chiral effective field theory. For the purpose of generating a systematic power counting, the complex-mass scheme is applied in combination with the small-scale expansion. We fit the results to available empirical data.
Coherent photoproduction of η-mesons off 3He – search for η-mesic nuclei
2012
Coherent photoproduction of $\eta$-mesons off $^3$He, i.e. the reaction $\gamma ^3{He}\rightarrow \eta ^3{He}$, has been investigated in the near-threshold region. The experiment was performed at the Glasgow tagged photon facility of the Mainz MAMI accelerator with the combined Crystal Ball - TAPS detector. Angular distributions and the total cross section were measured using the $\eta\rightarrow \gamma\gamma$ and $\eta\rightarrow 3\pi^0\rightarrow 6\gamma$ decay channels. The observed extremely sharp rise of the cross section at threshold and the behavior of the angular distributions are evidence for a strong $\eta {^3{He}}$ final state interaction, pointing to the existence of a resonant …
