A new frozen-spin target for 4π particle detection

1999

Abstract A new frozen-spin target has been developed, that allows the detection of emitted particles in an angular acceptance of almost 4π in the laboratory frame. The central part of this new target represents a 3He/4He dilution refrigerator that is installed horizontally along the beam axis. The refrigerator includes an internal superconducting holding coil to maintain the nucleon polarization in the frozen-spin mode longitudinally to the beam. The design of the dilution refrigerator and the use of an internal holding coil enabled for the first time the measurement of a spin-dependent total cross section in combination with a polarized solid state target. This new frozen-spin target was u…

Quasielastic K-nucleus scattering

1996

Quasielastic K^+ - nucleus scattering data at q=290, 390 and 480 MeV/c are analyzed in a finite nucleus continuum random phase approximation framework, using a density-dependent particle-hole interaction. The reaction mechanism is consistently treated according to Glauber theory, keeping up to two-step inelastic processes. A good description of the data is achieved, also providing a useful constraint on the strength of the effective particle-hole interaction in the scalar-isoscalar channel at intermediate momentum transfers. We find no evidence for the increase in the effective number of nucleons participating in the reaction which has been reported in the literature.

On the NN-final-state-interaction in the $^{16}{O}(e,e' pp)$ reaction

2002

The influence of the mutual interaction between the two outgoing nucleons (NN-FSI) in the $^{16}{O}(e,e' pp)$ reaction has been investigated. Results for various kinematics are discussed. In general, the effect of NN-FSI depends on kinematics and the chosen final state in the excitation spectrum of $^{14}{C}$.

Quadrupole variation of projected spectra of even Ti isotopes

1975

In the present work we study the dependence of projected good $J$ states on the quadrupole moment. In order to achieve this, the quadrupole-moment-depenent generalized deformed BCS (DBCS) wave functions have been computed after minimizing the constrained Hamiltonian ${H}_{q}=H\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\lambda}N\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\mu}Q$. The calculation assumes the existence of a $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}$ spherical core. The two body residual interaction between the valence nucleons is determined by using the $^{42}\mathrm{Sc}$ spectrum for the $T=0$ force and the $^{49}\mathrm{Ca}$ spectrum for the $T=1$ force. The result of the calculation shows that the projected spectra in general cannot…

Coulomb displacement energies as a probe for nucleon pairing in the $f_{7/2}$ shell

2014

Coulomb displacement energies of $T=1/2$ mirror nuclei have been studied via a series of high-precision $Q_\mathrm{EC}$-value measurements with the double Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP. Most recently, the $Q_\mathrm{EC}$ values of the $f_{7/2}$-shell mirror nuclei $^{45}$V ($Q_\mathrm{EC}=7123.82(22)$ keV) and $^{49}$Mn ($Q_\mathrm{EC}=7712.42(24)$ keV) have been measured with an unprecedented precision. The data reveal a 16-keV ($1.6\sigma$) offset in the adopted Atomic Mass Evaluation 2012 value of $^{49}$Mn suggesting the need for further measurements to verify the breakdown of the quadratic form of the isobaric multiplet mass equation. Precisely measured $Q_\mathrm{EC}$ values…

Proton emission from an oblate nucleus 151Lu

2013

Abstract Excited states in the proton-unbound nucleus 151Lu have been established using γ-ray coincidence techniques. The lifetime of the first excited state above the proton-emitting ground state has been measured using the recoil-distance Doppler-shift method combined with recoil-decay tagging. The experimental level scheme and extracted lifetime have been compared with state-of-the-art theoretical calculations based upon a non-adiabatic deformed Woods–Saxon potential. This comparison suggests that the proton-emitting ground state in 151Lu is mildly oblate with a deformation β = − 0.11 − 0.05 + 0.02 and represents the best evidence to date for proton emission from an oblate nucleus.

Event-by-event hydrodynamics and elliptic flow from fluctuating initial states

2010

We develop a framework for event-by-event ideal hydrodynamics to study the differential elliptic flow which is measured at different centralities in Au+Au collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Fluctuating initial energy density profiles, which here are the event-by-event analogues of the eWN profiles, are created using a Monte Carlo Glauber model. Using the same event plane method for obtaining $v_2$ as in the data analysis, we can reproduce both the measured centrality dependence and the $p_T$ shape of charged-particle elliptic flow up to $p_T\sim2$~GeV. We also consider the relation of elliptic flow to the initial state eccentricity using different reference planes, and di…

HADRON PHYSICS AT MAMI

2009

With the new stage of the MAMI accelerator, the physics program on hadron physics at MAMI will be extended up to an end point energy of 1.5 GeV. A few selected experiments on electro production are presented to show examples on nucleon structure and baryon resonance structure studies. The photo production program at MAMI was described in a separate talk in this conference.

Photonuclear reactions at intermediate energies

2008

Starting from basic couplings of the photons to mesons, nucleons and isobars a microscopic manybody theory is developped which allows one to evaluate different photonuclear reactions at intermediate energies. The theory is applied to obtain the total photonuclear cross section and the separation between γ absorption and (γ, π) reaction channels.
