Reggeized model forηandη′photoproduction

2003

A Reggeized model for $\ensuremath{\eta}$ and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ photoproduction on the nucleon is presented. In this model, $t$-channel vector meson exchanges are described in terms of Regge trajectories to comply with the correct high energy behavior. We compare this Reggeized model with an isobar model ($\ensuremath{\eta}$-MAID), where the $t$-channel exchanges are described by $\ensuremath{\rho}$ and $\ensuremath{\omega}$ poles. Both models contain the same resonance contributions, and describe current $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\eta}p$ data up to ${E}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}^{\text{lab}}=2\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\text{GeV}$ quite well,…

Role of pion exchange inηmeson photoproduction on the deuteron

2015

Incoherent $\ensuremath{\eta}$ photoproduction on the deuteron is studied, with the main emphasis on the role of final-state interactions. In addition to the previously studied mechanisms of $NN$ and $\ensuremath{\eta}N$ rescatterings, the role of an intermediate pion exchange is considered in detail, where first a pion is photoproduced on one nucleon and then rescatters into an $\ensuremath{\eta}$ meson on the other, the spectator nucleon. It is found that the role of this pion-mediated contribution is comparable in size to that of $\ensuremath{\eta}N$ rescattering. Results for total and semi-inclusive differential cross sections and associated polarization observables are presented. In pa…

Neutrino induced weak pion production off the nucleon and coherent pion production in nuclei at low energies

2009

We present a microscopic model for neutrino induced one-pion production off the nucleon and its implementation for the purpose of calculating coherent pion production in nuclei. We further criticize the use of the Rein--Sehgal model for coherent pion production by low energy neutrinos. In particular, we show how the approximations in that model give rise to a much flatter differential cross section in the $\eta=E_\pi(1-\cos\theta_\pi)$ variable. We discuss the limitations intrinsic to any approach based on the partial conservation of the axial current hypothesis and the inability of such models to properly determine the angular distribution of the outgoing pion with respect to the direction…

Photoproduction of η and η′ mesons with EtaMAID

2016

The unitary isobar model EtaMAID has been updated with an extended list of nucleon resonances, fitted to recent and new data for differential cross sections and polarization observables. The nonresonant background is described by Regge trajectories of ω,ρ and a 1 , b 1 mesons and in addition Regge cuts, where vector and axial vector mesons are exchanged together with Pomeron and f 2 mesons.

A Monte-Carlo method to analyze the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon

2007

Parity violating elastic electron-nucleon scattering allows to determine the vector stangeness content of the nucleon. The final uncertainty on the strange form factors is limited, among other parameters, by the uncertainty on the electromagnetic form factors. These are usually fitted with a functional form constrained by boundary conditions at Q 2= 0 and at large Q 2. These conditions induce huge correlations between parameters which are not taken into account to full extent by purely statistical methods. We describe here a Monte-Carlo method which accounts for correlations between parameters to all orders. We also propose a method for taking into account some systematical errors induced b…

Nuclear matrix elements for0νββdecays with light or heavy Majorana-neutrino exchange

2015

We compute the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) corresponding to the neutrinoless double beta ($0\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}$) decays of nuclei which attract current experimental interest. We concentrate on ground-state-to-ground-state decay transitions mediated by light (l-NMEs) or heavy (h-NMEs) Majorana neutrinos. The computations are done in realistic single-particle model spaces using the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) with two-nucleon interactions based on the Bonn one-boson-exchange $G$ matrix. Both the l-NMEs and the h-NMEs include the appropriate short-range correlations, nucleon form factors, and higher-order nucleonic weak …

High-Spin States in204Bi and the Question of Many-Nucleon Configuration Mixing

1981

The properties of high-spin levels in 204Bi have been studied using conventional in-beam γ-ray and conversion-electron spectroscopy on the products of the reactions 205Tl(α, 5n) 204Bi and 203Tl(α, 3n) 204Bi. The yrast cascade is followed to a 19+ level at 3808 keV and several non-yrast levels in the spin interval J = 9-16 are reported. The energies of the levels in 204Bi were calculated within the shell-model frame of multi-nucleon states, and the agreement is found to be good. A previously reported T1/2 = 1 ms isomeric state is shown to have a main configuration πh9/2ν(j-2)0+(i13/2-2)12+f5/2-1 and a spin-parity 17+. The configuration mixing for the neutron-hole components of the wave funct…

Nuclear-spin comagnetometer based on a liquid of identical molecules

2018

Atomic comagnetometers are used in searches for anomalous spin-dependent interactions. Magnetic field gradients are one of the major sources of systematic errors in such experiments. Here we describe a comagnetometer based on the nuclear spins within an ensemble of identical molecules. The dependence of the measured spin-precession frequency ratio on the first-order magnetic field gradient is suppressed by over an order of magnitude compared to a comagnetometer based on overlapping ensembles of different molecules. Our single-species comagnetometer is shown to be capable of measuring the hypothetical spin-dependent gravitational energy of nuclei at the $10^{-17}$ eV level, comparable to the…

Evidence for Strange-Quark Contributions to the Nucleon’s Form Factors atQ2=0.108   (GeV/c)2

2005

We report on a measurement of the parity violating asymmetry in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons off unpolarized protons with the A4 apparatus at MAMI in Mainz at a four momentum transfer value of ${Q}^{2}=0.108\text{ }(\mathrm{GeV}/c{)}^{2}$ and at a forward electron scattering angle of $30\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}l{\ensuremath{\theta}}_{e}l40\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$. The measured asymmetry is ${A}_{LR}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{e}p)=[\ensuremath{-}1.36\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.29(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.13(\mathrm{syst})]\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$. Measurement of Strange Quark Contributions to the Vector Form Factors of the Proton atQ2=0.22  (GeV/c)2

2009

A new measurement of the parity violating asymmetry in elastic electron scattering on hydrogen at backward angles and at a four momentum transfer of Q{sup 2}=0.22 (GeV/c){sup 2} is reported here. The measured asymmetry is A{sub LR}=(-17.23{+-}0.82{sub stat}{+-}0.89{sub syst})x10{sup -6}. The standard model prediction assuming no strangeness is A{sub 0}=(-15.87{+-}1.22)x10{sup -6}. In combination with previous results from measurements at forward angles, it is possible to disentangle for the first time the strange form factors at this momentum transfer, G{sub E}{sup s}=0.050{+-}0.038{+-}0.019 and G{sub M}{sup s}=-0.14{+-}0.11{+-}0.11.
