New μs Isomers in the Neutron-rich 210Hg Nucleus

2013

Neutron-rich nuclei in the lead region, beyond N = 126, have been studied at the FRS-RISING setup at GSI, exploiting the fragmentation of a primary uranium beam. Two isomeric states have been identified in Hg-210: the 8(+) isomer expected from the seniority scheme in the vg(9/2) shell and a second one at low spin and low excitation energy. The decay strength of the 8(+) isomer confirms the need of effective three-body forces in the case of neutron-rich lead isotopes. The other unexpected low-lying isomer has been tentatively assigned as a 3(-) state, although this is in contrast with theoretical expectations. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Mass Measurement on the rp-Process Waiting Point 72Kr

2004

The mass of one of the three major waiting points in the astrophysical rp process $^{72}$Kr was measured for the first time with the Penning trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP. The measurement yielded a relative mass uncertainty of $\deltam/m = 1.2\times 10–7 (\deltam$ = 8 keV). $^{73,74}$Kr, also needed for astrophysical calculations, were measured with more than 1 order of magnitude improved accuracy. We use the ISOLTRAP masses of $^{72–74}$Kr to reanalyze the role of $^{72}$Kr (T$_{1/2}$ = 17.2 s) in the rp process during x-ray bursts and conclude that $^{72}$Kr is a strong waiting point delaying the burst duration with at least 80\% of its $\beta$-decay half-life.

Extended Skyrme pseudopotential deduced from infinite nuclear matter properties

2015

We discuss the contributions to the equation of state for the NlLO Skyrme pseudopotential (l = 2,3). We show that by adding fourth- and sixth-order gradient terms, it is possible to fairly reproduce the spin/isospin decomposition of an equation of state obtained from ab initio methods. Moreover, by inspecting the partial-wave decomposition of the equation of state, we show for the first time a possible way to add explicit constraints on the sign of the tensor terms of the Skyrme interaction.

New perspectives in the studies of resonance scattering

2003

We consider various possibilities for studies of nuclear structure in resonance reactions induced by radioactive beam. We discuss investigations on both sides of nuclear stability as well as studies of the a-cluster structure of light nuclei applying the reverse geometry thick target method.

Inclusive muon capture in light nuclei

1998

We study total muon capture rates in light nuclei, taking into account renormalizations of the nuclear vector and axial vector strengths. We estimate the influence in the results of uncertainties of the spin-isospin interaction parameter and nuclear densities. A few of these reactions are theoretical benchmarks for physics involving searches for neutrino oscillations. New experiments in muon capture in several targets are suggested, in the light of some discrepancies with theory, crudeness of some experimental results and relevance to neutrino physics.

QECvalues of the superallowedβemittersC10,Ar34,Ca38, andV46

2011

The ${Q}_{\mathrm{EC}}$ values of the superallowed ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{+}$ emitters $^{10}\mathrm{C}$, $^{34}\mathrm{Ar}$, $^{38}\mathrm{Ca}$, and $^{46}\mathrm{V}$ have been measured with the JYFLTRAP Penning-trap mass spectrometer to be 3648.12(8), 6061.83(8), 6612.12(7), and 7052.44(10) keV, respectively. All four values are substantially improved in precision over previous results. Of the well-known superallowed emitters, only $^{14}\mathrm{O}$ has yet to have had its ${Q}_{\mathrm{EC}}$ value measured with a Penning trap.

Unrestricted shapes of light nuclei in the local-density approximation: Comparison with jellium clusters

1995

Abstract The shapes of light nuclei are studied within density-functional theory. The Kohn-Sham method and the local-density approximation are used. No symmetry restrictions are imposed. A parallel study is made of monovalent atomic clusters described on the jellium model. The shapes obtained for nuclei with Z = N = 2–22 show a striking similarity to those of atomic clusters of an equal number of valence electrons. Moments of inertia, when suitably normalized, are virtually identical. The calculated nuclear quadrupole moments are found insensitive to the effective interaction and in good agreement with experiment. Similar shape coexistence is established in both systems.

Measuring the phi meson width in the medium from p induced phi production in nuclei

2004

We study the $A$ dependence of the $\phi$ meson production cross section in proton nucleus reactios at energies just above threshold, which are accessible in an experimental facility like COSY. This $A$ dependence has two sources: the distortion of the incident proton and the absorption of the $\phi$ in its way out of the nucleus. This second process reduces the cross section in about a factor two in heavy nuclei. Thus we show that the $A$ dependence of the cross section contains valuable information on the $\phi$ width in the nuclear medium.
