Glueball masses from ratios of path integrals

2011

By generalizing our previous work on the parity symmetry, the partition function of a Yang-Mills theory is decomposed into a sum of path integrals each giving the contribution from multiplets of states with fixed quantum numbers associated to parity, charge conjugation, translations, rotations and central conjugations. Ratios of path integrals and correlation functions can then be computed with a multi-level Monte Carlo integration scheme whose numerical cost, at a fixed statistical precision and at asymptotically large times, increases power-like with the time extent of the lattice. The strategy is implemented for the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory, and a full-fledged computation of the mass and …

Search for Lepton Number and Flavor Violation in K+ and π0 Decays

2021

Searches for the lepton number violating $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{-} \mu^{+} e^{+}$ decay and the lepton flavour violating $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} \mu^{-} e^{+}$ and $\pi^{0} \rightarrow \mu^{-} e^{+}$ decays are reported using data collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in $2017$-$2018$. No evidence for these decays is found and upper limits of the branching ratios are obtained at 90% confidence level: $\mathcal{B}(K^{+}\rightarrow\pi^{-}\mu^{+}e^{+})<4.2\times 10^{-11}$, $\mathcal{B}(K^{+}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\mu^{-}e^{+})<6.6\times10^{-11}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\pi^{0}\rightarrow\mu^{-}e^{+})<3.2\times 10^{-10}$. These results improve by one order of magnitude over previous results for thes…

Consistency of the dynamical high-scale type-I seesaw mechanism

2019

We analyze the consistency of electroweak breaking within the simplest high-scale Standard Model type-I seesaw mechanism. We derive the full two-loop RGEs of the relevant parameters, including the quartic Higgs self-coupling of the Standard Model. For the simplest case of bare "right-handed" neutrino mass terms we find that, with large Yukawa couplings, the Higgs quartic self-coupling becomes negative much below the seesaw scale, so that the model may be inconsistent even as an effective theory. We show, however, that the "dynamical" type-I high-scale seesaw with spontaneous lepton number violation has better stability properties.

A full picture of large lepton number asymmetries of the Universe

2017

A large lepton number asymmetry of (0.1−1) at present Universe might not only be allowed but also necessary for consistency among cosmological data. We show that, if a sizeable lepton number asymmetry were produced before the electroweak phase transition, the requirement for not producing too much baryon number asymmetry through sphalerons processes, forces the high scale lepton number asymmetry to be larger than about 03. Therefore a mild entropy release causing (10-100) suppression of pre-existing particle density should take place, when the background temperature of the Universe is around T = (10−2-102) GeV for a large but experimentally consistent asymmetry to be present today. We also …

Neutrino-dark matter connections in gauge theories

2019

We discuss the connection between the origin of neutrino masses and the properties of dark matter candidates in the context of gauge extensions of the Standard Model. We investigate minimal gauge theories for neutrino masses where the neutrinos are predicted to be Dirac or Majorana fermions. We find that the upper bound on the effective number of relativistic species provides a strong constraint in the scenarios with Dirac neutrinos. In the context of theories where the lepton number is a local gauge symmetry spontaneously broken at the low scale, the existence of dark matter is predicted from the condition of anomaly cancellation. Applying the cosmological bound on the dark matter relic de…

Search for the charged lepton flavor violating decay J/ψ→eτ

2021

A search for the charged lepton flavor violating decay J/ψ→e±τ∓ with τ∓→π∓π0ντ is performed with about 10×109 J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII. No significant signal is observed, and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction B(J/ψ→e±τ∓)<7.5×10−8 at the 90% confidence level. This improves the previously published limit by two orders of magnitude.

Understanding the nature ofΛ(1405)through Regge physics

2016

It appears that there are two resonances with ${J}^{P}=1/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ quantum numbers in the energy region near the $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}(1405)$ hyperon. The nature of these states is a topic of current debate. To provide further insight we use Regge phenomenology to access how these two resonances fit the established hyperon spectrum. We find that only one of these resonances is compatible with a three-quark state.

Predictions for pentaquark states of hidden charm molecular nature and comparison with experiment

2016

Predictions for hidden charm molecules, with and without strangeness, were made prior to the LHCb experiment. We discuss these issues and how these states can be observed in the reactions, Λ b → J / ψK − p , Λ b → J / ψη Λ, Λ b → J / ψπ − p , Λ b → J / ψK 0 Λ and Ξ − b → J / ψK − Λ by looking at the invariant mass distributions for J / ψp or J / ψ Λ.

Λb→J/ψK0Λreaction and a hidden-charm pentaquark state with strangeness

2016

We study the Lambda(b) -> J/psi K-0 Lambda reaction considering both the K-0 Lambda interaction with its coupled channels and the J/psi Lambda interaction. The latter is described by taking into account the fact that there are predictions for a hidden-charm state with strangeness that couples to J/psi Lambda By using the coupling of the resonance to J/psi Lambda from these predictions, we show that a neat peak can be observed in the J/psi Lambda invariant mass distribution, rather stable under changes of unknown magnitudes. In some cases, one finds a dip structure associated to that state, but a signal of the state shows up in the J/psi Lambda spectrum.

Leptogenesis with a dynamical seesaw scale

2014

In the simplest type-I seesaw leptogenesis scenario right-handed neutrino annihilation processes are absent. However, in the presence of new interactions these processes are possible and can affect the resulting $B-L$ asymmetry in an important way. A prominent example is provided by models with spontaneous lepton number violation, where the existence of new dynamical degrees of freedom can play a crucial role. In this context, we provide a model-independent discussion of the effects of right-handed neutrino annihilations. We show that in the weak washout regime, as long as the scattering processes remain slow compared with the Hubble expansion rate throughout the relevant temperature range,…
