Baryon Asymmetry Resulting from FCQPT in the Early Universe
2014
This Chapter does not follow the main line of the book that is the theory of HF compounds but illustrates how the ideas of FC may be applicable to describe a very dissimilar system. Namely, here we consider a novel mechanism for explaining the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. We assume that the universe starts from completely symmetric state and then, as it cools down, it undergoes a quantum phase transition, which in turn causes an asymmetry between matter and anti-matter. As we shall see the quantum phase transition is represented by FCQPT. The mechanism does not require the baryon number violating interactions or \({\textit{CP}}\) violation at a microscopic level. The state F…
Magnetic properties of quantum dots and rings
2001
Exact many-body methods as well as current-spin-density functional theory are used to study the magnetism and electron localization in two-dimensional quantum dots and quasi-one-dimensional quantum rings. Predictions of broken-symmetry solutions within the density functional model are confirmed by exact configuration interaction (CI) calculations: In a quantum ring the electrons localize to form an antiferromagnetic chain which can be described with a simple model Hamiltonian. In a quantum dot the magnetic field localizes the electrons as predicted with the density functional approach.
Recent Developments in Quantum Algorithms and Complexity
2014
We survey several recent developments in quantum algorithms and complexity: Reichardt’s characterization of quantum query algorithms via span programs [15]; New bounds on the number of queries that are necessary for simulating a quantum algorithm that makes a very small number of queries [2]; Exact quantum algorithms with superlinear advantage over the best classical algorithm [4].
Ultrametric Vs. Quantum Query Algorithms
2014
Ultrametric algorithms are similar to probabilistic algorithms but they describe the degree of indeterminism by p-adic numbers instead of real numbers. This paper introduces the notion of ultrametric query algorithms and shows an example of advantages of ultrametric query algorithms over deterministic, probabilistic and quantum query algorithms.
Constraining nonstandard neutrino-quark interactions with solar, reactor and accelerator data
2009
We present a reanalysis of nonstandard neutrino-down-quark interactions of electron and tau neutrinos using solar, reactor and accelerator data. In addition updating the analysis by including new solar data from SNO phase III and Borexino, as well as new KamLAND data and solar fluxes, a key role is played in our analysis by the combination of these results with the CHARM data. The latter allows us to better constrain the axial and axial-vector electron and tau-neutrino nonstandard interaction parameters characterizing the deviations from the Standard Model predictions.
Low-lying even parity meson resonances and spin-flavor symmetry revisited
2013
We review and extend the model derived in Garcia-Recio et al. [Phys. Rev. D 83, 016007 (2011)] to address the dynamics of the low-lying even-parity meson resonances. This model is based on a coupled-channels spin-flavor extension of the chiralWeinberg-Tomozawa Lagrangian. This interaction is then used to study the S-wave meson-meson scattering involving members not only of the pi octet, but also of the rho nonet. In this work, we study in detail the structure of the SU(6)-symmetry-breaking contact terms that respect (or softly break) chiral symmetry. We derive the most general local (without involving derivatives) terms consistent with the chiral-symmetry-breaking pattern of QCD. After intr…

Hidden charm and bottom molecular states
2014
We investigate heavy quark symmetries for heavy light meson-antimeson systems in a contact-range effective field theory. In the SU(3) light flavor limit, the leading order Lagrangian respecting heavy quark spin symmetry contains four independent counter-terms. Neglecting $1/m_Q$ corrections, three of these low energy constants can be determ1ined by theorizing a molecular description of the $X(3872)$ and $Z_b(10610)$ states. Thus, we can predict new hadronic molecules, in particular the isovector charmonium partners of the $Z_b(10610)$ and the $Z_b(10650)$ states. We also discuss hadron molecules composed of a heavy meson and a doubly-heavy baryon, which would be related to the heavy meson-a…
Charm quark mass with calibrated uncertainty
2016
We determine the charm quark mass ${\hat m}_c({\hat m}_c)$ from QCD sum rules of moments of the vector current correlator calculated in perturbative QCD. Only experimental data for the charm resonances below the continuum threshold are needed in our approach, while the continuum contribution is determined by requiring self-consistency between various sum rules, including the one for the zeroth moment. Existing data from the continuum region can then be used to bound the theoretical error. Our result is ${\hat m}_c({\hat m}_c) = 1272 \pm 8$ MeV for $\hat\alpha_s(M_Z) = 0.1182$. Special attention is given to the question how to quantify and justify the uncertainty.
