X-ray measurements of charge transfer reactions involving cold, very highly charged ions

The magnetic trapping mode of the Livermore high-energy Electron Beam Ion Trap is exploited to study charge transfer reactions between cold (few eV/amu) highly charged ions and gases. By selectively puffing neutral gases and monitoring the x-ray emission, state-selective measurements of the charge transfer reaction channels are possible. The observed K-shell x-ray spectra show prominent emission from high-n levels decaying to the n = 1 ground level, which is enabled by electron capture into states with low orbital angular momentum. High‐nuclearity mixed‐valence magnetic clusters : A general solution of the double exchange problem

We report here a general solution of the double‐exchange problem in the high‐nuclearity mixed valence systems containing arbitrary number P of the electrons delocalized over the network of N (P<N) localized spins. The developed approach is based on the successive (chainlike) spin‐coupling scheme and takes full advantage from the quantum angular momentum theory. In the framework of this approach the closed‐form analytical expressions are deduced for the matrix elements of the double exchange interaction, two‐electron transfer, and three‐center interaction that can be referred to as the potential exchange transfer. Counterdiabatic vortex pump in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

Topological phase imprinting is a well-established technique for deterministic vortex creation in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates of alkali metal atoms. It was recently shown that counter-diabatic quantum control may accelerate vortex creation in comparison to the standard adiabatic protocol and suppress the atom loss due to nonadiabatic transitions. Here we apply this technique, assisted by an optical plug, for vortex pumping to theoretically show that sequential phase imprinting up to 20 cycles generates a vortex with a very large winding number. Chromosomes of the Parasitic Isopod Anilocra Physodes

AbstractCounts of mitotic chromosomes have allowed to determine 2n = 12 as the modal diploid number of Anilocra physodes. Application of the C-banding technique reveals that two hetero-chromatic blocks bordering the centromeric region occur in each chromosome. This supports the notion that the actual low chromosome number of A. physodes may have been derived through a process of Robertsonian fusion.

Comparative analysis of the electrostatics of the binding of cationic proteins to vesicles: Asymmetric location of anionic phospholipids

The role of electrostatics is studied in the adsorption of cationic proteins to zwitterionic phosphatidylcholine (PC) and anionic PC/phosphatidylglycerol (PG) mixed small unilamellarvesicles (SUVs). For model proteins the interaction is monitored vs. PG content at low ionic strength. The adsorption of lysozyme and myoglobin (isoelectric point, pl 7-11) is investigated in SUVs, along with changes of the fluorescence emission spectra of the cationic proteins, via their adsorption on SUVs. In the Gouy-Chapman formalism, the activity coefficient goes with the square of charge number. Husserl on the Human Sciences in Ideen II

Interpreted according to the intentions of the author in Ideen I, Ideen II (with Ideen III) analyzes the relation between phenomenology and the natural and the spiritual sciences. Dilthey and early twentieth century discussions of the Geisteswissenschaften, the historical sciences in particular, are not examined by Husserl, but reflections on the personalistic attitude explicates Dilthey’s intentions. The person, motivation, communities, cultural objects, psychology, and relations with nature and with transcendental phenomenology are considered, as are pertinent abstractive reductions. References to continuations of the analyses here in later works of Husserl are also included.

Abstract Western (Sicilian) and eastern (Balcan-aegean) populations of the Balcan-tyrrhenian Ferulago nodosa are reported to be different in some morphological characters, and were considered different species by some authors in XIX century. In this work, fruit and pollen morphologies have been compared in Sicilian and Cretan plants; also, the chromosome number of Sicilian plants has been ascertained. Preliminary results highlight a general homogeneity between the two populations, nevertheless showing significant differences in some parameters (fruit form, pollen size). Singular solutions to a quasilinear ODE

In this paper, we prove the existence of infinitely many radial solutions having a singular behaviour at the origin for a superlinear problem of the form $-\Delta_pu=|u|^{\delta-1}u$ in $B(0,1)\setminus\{0\}\subset\mathbb R^N$,\, $u=0$ for $|x|=1$, where $N>p>1$ and $\delta>p-1$. Solutions are characterized by their nodal properties. The case $\delta+1 <\frac{Np}{N-p}$ is treated.
