Model of a Constructive Fuctional Optimization of the Cardan Cross

2015

This paper aims to establish an optimization model using the Ansys program, and taking into account the specific constraints depending on the functional role of the specific area. We present certain calculation parameters applied to the cardanic transmission of the Dacia, this cardanic transmission being considered an optimization model. The entire cardanic transmission was analyzed, resulting that the cardan crosses are parts which are strained the most, and that is why it will be here that the optimization will be focused, in terms of minimizing the Von Mises stress.

On the proper homotopy invariance of the Tucker property

2006

A non-compact polyhedron P is Tucker if, for any compact subset K ⊂ P, the fundamental group π1(P − K) is finitely generated. The main result of this note is that a manifold which is proper homotopy equivalent to a Tucker polyhedron is Tucker. We use Poenaru’s theory of the equivalence relations forced by the singularities of a non-degenerate simplicial map.

Comparison of Internal Clustering Validation Indices for Prototype-Based Clustering

2017

Clustering is an unsupervised machine learning and pattern recognition method. In general, in addition to revealing hidden groups of similar observations and clusters, their number needs to be determined. Internal clustering validation indices estimate this number without any external information. The purpose of this article is to evaluate, empirically, characteristics of a representative set of internal clustering validation indices with many datasets. The prototype-based clustering framework includes multiple, classical and robust, statistical estimates of cluster location so that the overall setting of the paper is novel. General observations on the quality of validation indices and on t…

A High-Resolution Penalization Method for large Mach number Flows in the presence of Obstacles

2009

International audience; A penalization method is applied to model the interaction of large Mach number compressible flows with obstacles. A supplementary term is added to the compressible Navier-Stokes system, seeking to simulate the effect of the Brinkman-penalization technique used in incompressible flow simulations including obstacles. We present a computational study comparing numerical results obtained with this method to theoretical results and to simulations with Fluent software. Our work indicates that this technique can be very promising in applications to complex flows.

Parameter identification for heterogeneous materials by optimal control approach with flux cost functionals

2021

The paper deals with the identification of material parameters characterizing components in heterogeneous geocomposites provided that the interfaces separating different materials are known. We use the optimal control approach with flux type cost functionals. Since solutions to the respective state problems are not regular, in general, the original cost functionals are expressed in terms of integrals over the computational domain using the Green formula. We prove the existence of solutions to the optimal control problem and establish convergence results for appropriately defined discretizations. The rest of the paper is devoted to computational aspects, in particular how to handle high sens…

Using skeleton and Hough transform variant to correct skew in historical documents

2020

International audience; As a main part of several document analysis systems, Skew estimation represents one of the major research challenges, particularly in case of historical documents exploration. In this paper, we propose an original skew angle detection and correction technique. Morphological Skeleton is introduced to considerably diminish the amount of data by eliminating the redundant pixels and preserving only the central curves of the image components. Next, the proposed method uses Progressive Probabilistic Hough Transform (PPHT) to find image lines. At the end, a specific procedure is applied in order to measure the global skew angle of the document image from these identified li…

Localized forms of the LBB condition and a posteriori estimates for incompressible media problems

2018

Abstract The inf–sup (or LBB) condition plays a crucial role in analysis of viscous flow problems and other problems related to incompressible media. In this paper, we deduce localized forms of this condition that contain a collection of local constants associated with subdomains instead of one global constant for the whole domain. Localized forms of the LBB inequality imply estimates of the distance to the set of divergence free fields. We use them and deduce fully computable bounds of the distance between approximate and exact solutions of boundary value problems arising in the theory of viscous incompressible fluids. The estimates are valid for approximations, which satisfy the incompres…

Introductory Quantum Physics Courses using a LabVIEW multimedia module

2007

We present the development of a LabVIEW multimedia module for introductory Quantum Physics courses and our experience in the use of this application as an educational tool in learning methodologies. The program solves the Time Dependent Schrodinger Equation for arbitrary potentials. We describe the numerical method used for solving this equation, as well as some mathematical tools employed to reduce the calculation time and to obtain more accurate results. As an illustration, we present the evolution of a wave packet for three different potentials: the repulsive barrier potential, the repulsive step potential, and the harmonic oscillator. This application has been successfully integrated in…

Wavefront invasion for a chemotaxis model of Multiple Sclerosis

2016

In this work we study wavefront propagation for a chemotaxis reaction-diffusion system describing the demyelination in Multiple Sclerosis. Through a weakly non linear analysis, we obtain the Ginzburg–Landau equation governing the evolution of the amplitude of the pattern. We validate the analytical findings through numerical simulations. We show the existence of traveling wavefronts connecting two different steady solutions of the equations. The proposed model reproduces the progression of the disease as a wave: for values of the chemotactic parameter below threshold, the wave leaves behind a homogeneous plaque of apoptotic oligodendrocytes. For values of the chemotactic coefficient above t…

Generalized Alomari functionals

2015

We consider a generalized form of certain integral inequalities given by Guessab, Schmeisser and Alomari. The trapezoidal, mid point, Simpson, Newton-Simpson rules are obtained as special cases. Also, inequalities for the generalized Alomari functional in terms of the $n$-th order modulus, $n=\overline{1,4}$, are given and applied to some known quadrature rules.
