Depth profiling of Al2O3 + TiO2 nanolaminates by means of a time-of-flight energy spectrometer
2011
Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is currently a widespread method to grow conformal thin films with a sub-nm thickness control. By using ALD for nanolaminate oxides, it is possible to fine tune the electrical, optical and mechanical properties of thin films. In this study the elemental depth profiles and surface roughnesses were determined for Al2O3 + TiO2 nanolaminates with nominal single-layer thicknesses of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 nm and total thickness between 40 nm and 60 nm. The depth profiles were measured by means of a time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis (ToF-ERDA) spectrometer recently installed at the University of Jyväskylä. In TOF-E measurements 63Cu, 35Cl, 12C and 4He ions…
Pedogenesis and carbon sequestration in transformed agricultural soils of Sicily
2021
The increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration is a consequence of human activities leading to severe environmental deteriorations. Techniques are thus needed to sequester and reduce atmospheric carbon. One of the proposed techniques is the transformation or construction of new soils into which more organic carbon can be sequestered and CO2 be consumed by increased weathering. By using a chronosequence of new and transformed soils on crushed limestone (0–48 years) in a Mediterranean area (Sicily), we tried to quantify the amount of organic carbon that could be additionally sequestered and to derive the corresponding rates. A further aim was to trace chemical weathering and related CO2 consump…
Bone mineral density and physical activity in 50–60-year-old women
1991
Abstract The bone mineral density (BMD) of the calcaneus was measured utilizing a single energy photon absorption method in 108 women, aged 50–60 years. The women who participated in vigorous exercise two or more times a week or whose total physical activity amounted to 4 h a week had significantly higher BMD values than those who exercised less than two times a week or did less than 4 h physical activity a week. The physically active women also showed higher values for leg extension force and maximal oxygen uptake. BMD and leg extension force were positively correlated, whereas correlations between BMD and body mass, and the width of the calcaneus were negative. When other life-style varia…
The Constraints of Vehicle Range and Congestion for the Use of Electric Vehicles for Urban Freight in France
2015
The 9th International Conference on City Logistics, Tenerife, Espagne, 17-/06/2015 - 19/06/2015; Electric vehicle is a solution to reduce pollutant emissions from road urban freight. This paper assesses the potential CO2 reduction by transferring urban freight from diesel to electric vehicles while simultaneously looking at the two main technical constraints: electric vehicle range and the impact on congestion linked to change diesel heavy duty vehicles (with a load up to 25 tons) to much smaller electric vehicles. The data used has been computed from a survey (ECHO) that describes in details a very large sample of French shipments. Two scenarios were set up, which differ mainly by the type…
From tungsten hexacarbonyl adsorption on TiO2(1 1 0) surface to supported tungsten oxide phases.
2008
Abstract Synchrotron-based photoemission spectroscopies were used to study the adsorption of tungsten hexacarbonyl on (1 1 0) TiO 2 surfaces: experiments using W4f and Ti2p intensities variations show that, at 140 K, the hexacarbonyl growth proceeds via a layer-by-layer mode. Moreover, it was evidenced using both core levels and valence band experiments that, after back to room temperature, W(CO) 6 desorbs without significant decomposition. However, low energy (500 eV) ion (Ar + ) irradiation can allow partial decomposition of tungsten hexacarbonyl molecules leading to sub-carbonyl tungsten molecules. The bonding of sub-carbonyl species to the TiO 2 surface was then stronger than the one of…
Onomatopeya, imitación y poesía en Grecia y Roma
2019
