Tutkielman tarkoituksena on tarkastella angloamerikkalaisen historiankirjoituksen antamaa kuvaa islamin varhaisista valloituksista. Tutkimuksen kohteena eivät suoranaisesti ole itse valloitukset, vaan nykyaikaisten länsimaisten historiankirjoittajien niistä luoma kuva. Tutkielmassa vertaillaan eri historioitsijoiden näkemyksiä avainteemoista (lähdemateriaalin käsittely, valloituksiin johtaneet ja ne mahdollistaneet syyt) sekä pohditaan, miten ja miksi ne eroavat toisistaan. During a die-off of Mediterranean striped dolphins Stenella coeruleoalba in 1990-91, 82 individuals stranded on the Spanish coast were examined for crustacean ectoparasites and epizoites. Six species were detected: Syncyarnus aequus, PenneUa sp., Xenobalanus globicipitis, Conchoderma virgatum, Lepas pectinata and Lepas cf. hillii. The barnacles L. pectinata and L. cf. hillii are reported here for the first time on cetaceans; they were attached to the teeth. C. virgaturn was also found on the teeth; this is an unusual attachment on cetaceans. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää kuinka hyvin Jyväskylän yliopiston tietotekniikan laitoksen opiskelijoiden taidot vastaavat toimialan tarpeita. Tietoa opiskelijoiden osaamisesta saatiin heille tehdystä kyselystä sekä tietotekniikan kandidaatin tutkinnon osaamistavoitteista. Tietoa yritysten tarpeista kerättiin alan työpaikkailmoituksista sekä Keski-Suomen alueen yrityksille tarjottujen PROFIT-koulutusten aiheista. Saatuja tietoja vertaamalla saatiin selville, että opiskelijoiden taidot vastaavat hyvin toimialan tarpeita sekä kansallisesti, että Keski-Suomessa.
Sprint and endurance training in relation to redox and inflammatory status and biomarkers of aging in master athletes

Purpose Studies have shown a positive influence of intense athletic training on several biomarkers of aging, but it remains unclear whether this influence is dependent of exercise-training-mode. This study compared redox balance, cytokine levels and biomarkers of aging between master sprinters and endurance athletes, as well as in young and middle-aged individuals as controls.
