Retrieving and Validating Leaf and Canopy Chlorophyll Content at Moderate Resolution: A Multiscale Analysis with the Sentinel-3 OLCI Sensor

2021

ESA’s Eighth Earth Explorer mission “FLuorescence EXplorer” (FLEX) will be dedicated to the global monitoring of the chlorophyll fluorescence emitted by vegetation. In order to properly interpret the measured fluorescence signal, essential vegetation variables need to be retrieved concomitantly. FLEX will fly in tandem formation with Sentinel-3 (S3), which conveys the Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI) that is designed to characterize the atmosphere and the terrestrial vegetation at a spatial resolution of 300 m. In support of FLEX’s preparatory activities, this paper presents a first validation exercise of OLCI vegetation products against in situ data coming from the 2018 FLEXSense cam…

Modelo empírico para la determinación de clorofila-a en aguas continentales a partir de los futuros Sentinel-2 y 3. Validación con imágenes HICO

2014

[EN] Chlorophyll-a concentration is one of the main indicators of inland waters quality. Using CHRIS/PROBA images and in situ data obtained in four lakes in Colombia and Spain, we obtained empirical models for the estimation of chlorophyll-a concentration, which can be directly applied to future images of MSI Sentinel-2 and OLCI Sentinel-3 sensors. The models, based on spectral band indices, were validated with data from the hyperspectral sensor HICO, onboard of the International Space Station.

Functional Inactivation of pRB Results in Aneuploid Mammalian Cells After Release From a Mitotic Block

2002

AbstractThe widespread chromosome instability observed in tumors and in early stage carcinomas suggests that aneuploidy could be a prerequisite for cellular transformation and tumor initiation. Defects in tumor suppressers and genes that are part of mitotic checkpoints are likely candidates for the aneuploid phenotype. By using flow cytometric, cytogenetic, immunocytochemistry techniques we investigated whether pRB deficiency could drive perpetual aneuploidy in normal human and mouse fibroblasts after mitotic checkpoint challenge by microtubule-destabilizing drugs. Both mouse and human pRB-deficient primary fibroblasts resulted, upon release from a mitotic block, in proliferating aneuploid …

La Sicilia oscena di Danilo Dolci

2005

This short paper presents the Danilo Dolci’s pedagogy of freedom in Sicily in the Seventies of the twentieth century. The Educational Center of Mirto in Partinico, founded by Dolci in 1974, became a maieutic laboratory where children from 4 to 6 years of age st…

Monitoring of the action of drugs in melanoma cells by dynamic laser speckle

2014

Abstract. This work presents the development of a protocol based on the dynamic laser speckle designed tomonitor the reaction of cancer cells of line MEL-RC08 to the application of the drug Colcemid in two differentconcentrations: 0.2 and 0.4 μg∕mL. The protocol was designed using the forward scattering approach with anHe-Ne laser of 632.8 nm illuminating the samples, a control, and two variations of Colcemid, being monitoredalong 8 h. The data were analyzed numerically in the time and in the frequency domain, and the results pre-sented the ability of the technique to monitor the action of the drug, particularly Colcemid (0.4 μg∕mL). © 2014Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers …

Street law alla rovescia: sperimentazioni di educazione clinico-legale critica

2021

The "upside-down street law", as I call the educational experiments that I have conducted over the course of several years, intends to challenge the assumption of the vertical monodirectionality of knowledge. How? Creating a more complex field of circulation and production of knowledge, in which the worn-out spatial metaphors of high and low culture, as well as of what is counted inside or outside the legitimate learning space, are questioned. This way of teaching law starts from an analysis of the power relations present in a certain context. And it proposes educational interventions that deconstruct these relationships by reassembling them otherwise. In the article are told some this expe…

Dolci e Doglio, differenti maieutiche territoriali nell'esperienza meridionale

2009

The Land Surface Temperature Synergistic Processor in BEAM: A Prototype towards Sentinel-3

2016

Land Surface Temperature (LST) is one of the key parameters in the physics of land-surface processes on regional and global scales, combining the results of all surface-atmosphere interactions and energy fluxes between the surface and the atmosphere. With the advent of the European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel 3 (S3) satellite, accurate LST retrieval methodologies are being developed by exploiting the synergy between the Ocean and Land Colour Instrument (OLCI) and the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR). In this paper we explain the implementation in the Basic ENVISAT Toolbox for (A)ATSR and MERIS (BEAM) and the use of one LST algorithm developed in the framework of the Syner…
