Thiphenylmethane based structural fragments as building blocks towards solution-processable heteroleptic iridium(iii) complexes for OLED use

2019

A novel structural approach to solution-processable heteroleptic iridium(III) complexes is presented. On the basis of 2-arylbenzo[d]thiazole cyclometalating main ligands and picolinic acid (pic) and acetylacetone (acac) ancillary ligands six new yellow or orange emitting materials were obtained using attached 1,1,1-triphenylmethylpentane substituents as aggregation preventing and solubility enhancing functional fragments. The obtained compounds show high photoluminescence quantum yield values in the range of 0.64 to 0.90. OLEDs with a spin-coated emissive layer were successfully prepared, with the highest achieved external quantum efficiency of 7.9%, current efficiency of 12.4 cd A−1 and po…

Oligofluorene with multiple spiro-connections: its and their use in blue and white OLEDs

2019

Bond rotation within molecules is regarded as one of the nonradiative decay pathways and is detrimental to high photoluminescence quantum yields. In this work, a bulky and rigid blue emitter (Spiro-F) with five spiro-carbon linkages is synthesized. Spiro-F can serve not only as an active component of blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), but also as a host and blue emitter of white OLEDs. The WOLED offers a low turn-on voltage of 3.5 V and a high current efficiency of 3.6 cd A−1, together with CIE coordinates of (0.29, 0.33). This work proves the potential of super-rigid oligofluorene emitters for OLEDs.

Efficient electroluminescence from a perylenediimide fluorophore obtained from a simple solution processed OLED

2009

Simple solution processed organic light emitting diodes are used to screen the performance of two types of highly efficient, narrow band red emitting fluorescent perylenediimides (PDIs). PDIs substituted at the diimide positions seem to form aggregates in the thin film architecture as evidenced by the shifted electroluminescent spectrum. When substituted on the bay position and when used both as the emitting and the electron transporting specie, bright electroluminescence with a narrow width around 610 nm reaching 500 cd m−2 at moderate voltages was observed, demonstrating the usefulness of these fluorophores for OLED applications.

Green light-emitting devices based on soluble oligo(phenylenevinylenes)

2005

In this work, we report our investigations on the film-forming properties as well as the optical and electroluminescent characterisations of a series of lateral-substituted soluble oligo(phenylenevinylenes) of various conjugation length. Preliminary investigations show that these materials are potential candidates for use in organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). Two types of OLEDs were fabricated: single layer (SL) and single heterostructure (SHS), with poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) as hole transporting layer. Our best results were obtained with single layer device emitting green light with a luminance of 0.18 cd m(-2) and 0.24 cd m(-2) at a driving voltage of 10 V. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.…

Synthesis and luminescence of poly(phenylacetylene)s with pendant iridium complexes and carbazole groups

2010

Poly(phenylacetylene)s containing pendant phosphorescent iridium complexes have been synthesized and their electrochemical, photo- and electroluminescent properties studied. The polymers have been synthesized by rhodium-catalyzed copolymerization of 9-(4-ethynylphenyl)carbazole (CzPA) and phenylacetylenes (C∧N)2Ir(κ2-O,O′-MeC(O)CHC(O)C6H4CCH-4) (C∧N = κ2-N,C1-2-(pyridin-2-yl)phenyl (IrppyPA) or κ2-N,C1-2-(isoquinolin-1-yl)phenyl (IrpiqPA)). In addition, organic poly(phenylacetylene)s with pendant carbazole groups have been synthesized by rhodium-catalyzed copolymerization of CzPA and 1-ethynyl-4-pentylbenzene. Complex (C∧N)2Ir(κ2-O,O′-MeC(O)CHC(O)Ph) (IrpiqPh; C∧N = 2-(isoquinolin-1-yl)phen…

Reply to “Comment to ‘Dynamics of supercooled confined water measured by deep inelastic neutron scattering’ by Y. Finkelstein and R. Moreh”

2019

We reply to the comment [Front. Phys. 14(5), 53605 (2019)] by Y. Finkelstein and R. Moreh on our article Front. Phys. 13(1), 138205 (2018). We agree with some of their criticisms about our calculation of the temperature effect on the kinetic energy of hydrogen atoms of supercooled confined water; we also agree with their statement that, in view of the current sensitivity of the technique, possible effects of the liquid-liquid water transition are hardly detected with deep inelastic neutron scattering (DINS). However, we disagree with their use of the translational mass ratio of a single water molecule and, in general, with their underestimation of collective effects.

Assessment of DEMO WCLL breeding blanket primary heat transfer system isolation valve absorbed doses due to activated water

2020

Abstract Within the framework of the activities foreseen by the EUROfusion action on the cooling water activation assessment for a DEMO reactor equipped with a Water Cooled Lithium Lead Breeding Blanket (WCLL BB), the University of Palermo is involved in the investigation of the absorbed dose induced by the decay of nitrogen radioisotopes produced by water activation, in the main components (e.g. isolation valves) of both First Wall (FW) and Breeder Zone (BZ) cooling circuits. The aim of this work is to assess the spatial distribution of the absorbed dose in the DEMO Upper Pipe Chase (UPC), focusing the attention on the space neighbouring a typical isolation valve of the Primary Heat Transf…

Heterogeneous contributions of change in population distribution of body mass index to change in obesity and underweight

2021

From 1985 to 2016, the prevalence of underweight decreased, and that of obesity and severe obesity increased, in most regions, with significant variation in the magnitude of these changes across regions. We investigated how much change in mean body mass index (BMI) explains changes in the prevalence of underweight, obesity, and severe obesity in different regions using data from 2896 population-based studies with 187 million participants. Changes in the prevalence of underweight and total obesity, and to a lesser extent severe obesity, are largely driven by shifts in the distribution of BMI, with smaller contributions from changes in the shape of the distribution. In East and Southeast Asia…

Toxicity of a dental adhesive compared with ionizing radiation and zoledronic acid

2015

Background: To determine the toxicity of aqueous dilutions of a universal self-priming dental adhesive (DA) and comparing these with those elicited by exposure to ionizing radiation (IR), Zoledronic acid (Z) treatment and the synergic effects of the combined treatment with IR+Z. Material and Methods: The genotoxic effect of DA was determined by the increase in the frequency of micronuclei in cytokinesis-blocked in cultured human lymphocytes before and after exposure to 2Gy of X-rays. The cytotoxic effect was studied by using the MTT cell viability test in normal prostate cell lines (PNT2) after exposure to different X-ray doses (0Gy-20Gy). The cell lines divided into different groups and tr…
