Fluorescein for resection of high-grade gliomas: A safety study control in a single center and review of the literature

2017

Background: The importance of a complete resection of high-grade gliomas (HGGs) has been highlighted in scientific literature, in order to limit tumor recurrence and above all to improve disease-free survival rates. Several fluorescent biomarkers have been tested to improve intraoperative identification of residual tumor; 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) and fluorescein sodium (FS) are now starting to play a central role in glioma surgery. We performed a retrospective analysis on 47 patients operated for HGGs. Here we report our preliminary data. Methods: Data of 47 consecutive patients with HGG have been collected in our study (25 males, 22 females; mean age: 60.3 years, range: 27-86 years). …

Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor-cultured bone marrow-derived macrophages reveal accessory cell function and synthesis of MHC class I…

1988

The antigen-mediated activation of a number of T cell clones by bone marrow (BM) cells cultivated in the presence of various colony-stimulating factor (CSF) preparations was investigated. BM macrophages (BMM phi) grown in L929 cell supernatant as a crude source of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) as well as BM cells propagated in the presence of recombinant M-CSF exhibited transient antigen presentation potential to some T cell clones, being maximal on day 7 and having declined to a low level by day 19 of in vitro culture. Treatment of these long-term-cultivated BMM phi populations with recombinant interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) resulted in predominant antigen presentation capacit…

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis

2021

[Background and purpose] Prognosis of myasthenia gravis (MG) in patients with thymoma is not well established. Moreover, it is not clear whether thymoma recurrence or unresectable lesions entail a worse prognosis of MG.

Long-term outcome after urinary diversion using the ileocecal segment in children and adolescents: Complications of the efferent segment.

2016

Long-term outcomes are of special concern in children after urinary diversion. In a single institution study we evaluated retrospectively the long-term outcomes of urinary diversion in children, in whom the ileocecal segment had been used, in respect to complications of the efferent segment. The Mainz pouch was used in 107 children for continent urinary diversion. Indications were neurogenic bladder (53%, 57/107), exstrophy-epispadias complex (25%, 27/107), malignancy (13%, 14/107), and others (9%, 9/107). Continent cutaneous diversion was performed in 95 patients, and 12 patients received bladder augmentation/substitution with a continent cutaneous stoma. As efferent segment, we used the in…

Classification of Intracranial Tumors

1981

L. Bruns (1914) stated in Krause’s “General Neurosurgery” that brain tumors included all neoplasms growing within the cranial cavity and that these might be divided into three groups: (1) genuine tumors, (2) granulomatous lesions, and (3) parasites. Current use of the term “brain tumor” is more precise and limited to the first of L. Bruns’ categories. Even so, brain tumors represent a large and inhomoge-neous group. The comparison and evaluation of such a diverse set of observations is only possible after making a systematic classification of pertinent data.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Derived Biomarkers of IDH Mutation Status and Overall Survival in Grade III Astrocytomas

2020

The evaluation of the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation status in the glioma decision-making process has diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic implications. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) can noninvasively predict the most common IDH mutational status (R132H) in GIII-astrocytomas and the overall survival (OS). Hence, twenty-two patients (9-F, 13-M) with a histological diagnosis of GIII-astrocytoma and evaluation of IDH-mutation status (12-wild type, 10-mutant) were retrospectively evaluated. Imaging studies were reviewed for the morphological feature and mean ADC values (ADCm). Stati…

Diferenciācijas indukcijas izpēte pēc BRAF un mTOR inhibitoru apstrādes BRAF mutētās ādas melanomas šūnās

2022

Assessment of microalgae species, biomass, and distribution from spectral images using a convolution neural network

2022

AbstractEffective monitoring of microalgae growth is crucial for environmental observation, while the applications of this monitoring could also be expanded to commercial and research-focused microalgae cultivation. Currently, the distinctive optical properties of different microalgae groups are targeted for monitoring. Since different microalgae can grow together, their spectral signals are mixed with ambient properties, making estimations of species biomasses a challenging task. In this study, we cultured five different microalgae and monitored their growth with a mobile spectral imager in three separate experiments. We trained and validated a one-dimensional convolution neural network by…
