Evaluation of a liposomal food supplement containing conifer polyprenols on performance of amateur marathon and half marathon runners using blood bio…

2021

2016

The purpose of this article is to analyse Hobbes’s understanding of democracy. The first part of the article analyses the role of democracy in the social contract. It aims to show how there exists a democratic element at the beginning of the process of social contract, in which the multitude is transformed into a people. However, after the first social contract is made, Hobbes aims to reduce the power of the people by leading the process of social contract on to another level, on which the power of the people is assigned to a representative of the sovereign power, for example a monarch. The second part of the article aims to explain the practical reasons, provided by Hobbes in different par…

Comparison of the Properties of Activated Carbons Produced in One-Stage and Two-Stage Processes

2018

Activated carbons (ACs) can be produced from biomass in a thermal process either in a direct carbonization-activation process or by first carbonizing the biomass and later activating the bio-chars into activated carbons. The properties of the ACs are dependent on the type of process used for production. In this study, the properties of activated carbons produced in one-stage and two-stage processes are considered. Activated carbons were produced by physical activation of two types of starting materials: bio chars produced from spruce and birch chips in a commercial carbonization plant and from the corresponding raw chips. The activated carbons produced were characterized regarding specific …

Federaliści i rozłam między klasycznością a modernością

2014

The article shows how the classical political thinking, based on civic virtues, and modernist thinking, based on individualism and self-interest, formed the basis of the U.S. Constitution. The Founding Fathers did not realize the full extent of the rift between classicism and modernity. When, as a result of intellectual discussions and practice of social life, this divide began to become more and more obvious, there has been a transition from the classical to the modernist paradigm in American politics. However, the dispute between classicism and modernity still continues and takes on new forms. On the one hand, contemporary political thinking is seen as a triumph of modernism, in which the…

Protein recovery as a resource from waste specifically via membrane technology : from waste to wonder

2021

Economic growth and the rapid increase in the world population has led to a greater need for natural resources, which in turn, has put pressure on said resources along with the environment. Water, food, and energy, among other resources, pose a huge challenge. Numerous essential resources, including organic substances and valuable nutrients, can be found in wastewater, and these could be recovered with efficient technologies. Protein recovery from waste streams can provide an alternative resource that could be utilized as animal feed. Membrane separation, adsorption, and microbe-assisted protein recovery have been proposed as technologies that could be used for the aforementioned protein re…

2009

Soil tillage modifies the location of crop residues and soil structure and affects microbial populations and activities such as mineralization of soil organic matter. The aim of this work was to compare the effect of two tillage systems (traditional mouldboard ploughing, LT, and reduced tillage, TR) on crop residues distribution and soil structure as well as their consequences on soil microbial biomass (BM), the potential activity of C mineralization (Cmin) and soil bacterial community structure (through T-RFLP). In order to study simultaneously the effects of soil structure modifications and crop residues distribution on these microbial parameters we used a stratified sampling scheme based…

Physico-chemical characterisation of a non-conventional food protein source from earthworms and sensory impact in arepas

2009

International audience; This study aimed to characterise a non-conventional protein source: a powder made from earthworms, and to evaluate its potential use as human food. The way it was prepared led to low solubility and wide particle size distribution. Sensory analysis was used to assess the acceptability and the organoleptic properties of maize-based pan-cakes fortified with this novel protein powder. Satisfying products were obtained with a substitution level of 5.5% (w/w) earthworm powder in pan-cakes. GC-MS allowed the identification of more than seventy volatile compounds that may be responsible for the off-odour of the powder. The most abundant chemical groups found in the volatile …

Piespiedu nomas institūts.

2020

Una definizione ormai datata della FAO (1967), riferita ai paesi in via di sviluppo, riporta: “Fast-growing species are considered as those capable of a mean annual increment of at least 10 cubic meters per hectare”. Nel frattempo, da qua…
