Tuning Reductive and Oxidative Photoinduced Electron Transfer in Amide‐Linked Anthraquinone–Porphyrin–Ferrocene Architectures
2014
Porphyrin amino acids 3a–3h with meso substituents Ar of tunable electron-donating power (Ar = 4-C6H4OnBu, 4-C6H4OMe, 4-C6H4Me, Mes, C6H5, 4-C6H4F, 4-C6H4CF3, C6F5) have been linked at the N terminus to anthraquinone Q as electron acceptor through amide bonds to give Q-PAr dyads 4a–4h. These were conjugated to ferrocene Fc at the C terminus as electron donor to give the acceptor-chromophore-donor Q-PAr-Fc triads 6a–6h. To further modify the energies of the electronically excited and charge-separated states, the triads 6a–6h were metallated with zinc(II) to give the corresponding Q-(Zn)PAr-Fc triads Zn-6a–Zn-6h. The Q-PAr1 dyad (Ar1 = C6H5) was further extended with a second porphyrin PAr2 (…
4,4′‐Distyrylazobenzol als Chromophor
1992
4,4′-Distyrylazobenzene as Chromophore 4,4′-Distyrylazobenzenes are prepared from 4,4′-dimethylazobenzene. Whereas the Siegrist method furnishes stereoselectively the (E,E,E) configuration, a Wittig olefination leads to a mixture of (Z,E,Z), (Z,E,E) and (E,E,E) isomers which can be easily separated. Irradiation of the intense absorption at λ ≈ 400 nm causes a selective (E) (Z) isomerization of the N = N bond of all three isomers. The reverse reaction takes part in the photochemical equilibration, moreover, it is a thermal process with a relatively low activation barrier.
Cimetidine complexes derived from cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) salts of polyatomic anions
1986
Cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes [M(CM)2]X2 (X = BF4 or NO3) have been prepared with cimetidine (CM). Powder data, molar conductivities, magnetic moments, i.r. and electronic spectra support apseudo-octahedral stereochemistry with MN2N 2 ⋆ S2 chromophore and tentative structures are proposed for the complexes. Their properties are compared with these of previously prepared complexes.
Synthesis, Characterization and Magnetic Properties of New Dinuclear Copper(II) Complexes with N,N′-Disubstituted Dithiooxamides derived from α-Amino…
2005
Four new dinuclear copper(II) complexes have been synthesized and have the general formula [Cu2(L)(H2O)2], where L = GLYDTO [N,N′-bis(carboxymethyl)dithiooxamide], ALADTO [N,N′-bis(carboxyethyl)dithiooxamide], VALDTO [N,N′-bis(1-carboxy-2-methylpropyl)dithiooxamide] and LEUDTO [N,N′-bis(1-carboxy-3-methylbutyl)dithiooxamide]. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis as well as by IR, electronic and EPR spectroscopy. These techniques provided evidence for the presence of the CuNO2S chromophore. Magnetic susceptibility measurements on all the complexes in the range 4–300 K show the existence of a dominant antiferromagnetic interaction with −J values greater than 300 cm−1. Therma…
A Novel 1D-AF Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Chromium(II) Methyl Phosphonate Dihydrate: Synthesis, X-Ray Crystal and Molecular Structure, and Magnetic Prop…
2010
Light-blue crystals of chromium(II) methyl phosphonate dihydrate, [Cr(CH(3)PO(3))(H(2)O)].H(2)O, were obtained in water by mixing filtered solutions of methylphosphonic acid and chromium(II) chloride in the presence of urea in an inert atmosphere. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis, TGA-DSC, X-ray crystallography, magnetic measurements, and UV-visible and FT-IR spectroscopies. The crystal and molecular structures (orthorhombic Pnma (no. 62): a = 4.4714(5) A, b = 6.8762(7) A, c = 19.180(2) A, Z = 4) have been solved using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The chromium(II) ion is six-coordinated by oxygens (4 + 2) to form an elongated octahedron, with the four equatorial oxy…
Synthesis and Spectroscopic Characterisation ofbis-Complexes of Cobalt(II), Nickel(II) and Copper(II) with N,N,N′N′-Tetraethylpyridinecarboxamide
1994
Abstract Bis-complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with tedpa (N,N,N′N′-tetraethyl-pyridinedicarboxamide) having the general formula [M(tedpa)2]X2 (X = ClO4, PF6) have been synthesized and characterised by i.r., electronic and e.p.r. spectra. The spectroscopic results suggest that the tedpa acts in these compounds as tridentate ligand through two oxygen atoms and a nitrogen (from the pyridine ring) atom. A distorted octahedral environment (MN2O4 chromophores) for the metal atoms is inferred from the spectroscopic data.
No road is long with good company. What factors affect Ph.D. student’s satisfaction with their supervisor?
2021
PurposeHow frequently may be advisable for a supervisor to meet a PhD student? Are PhD students more satisfied if supervised by someone of the same gender, nationality or with common research interests? Thus far, we lack quantitative evidence regarding similar crucial aspects of managing PhD supervision. The goal of this study is hence to investigate what factors affect Ph.D. students' satisfaction about the professional and personal relationships with their supervisors.Design/methodology/approachWe focus on the characteristics of the interactions between the student and the supervisor, controlling for other important factors, namely, the supervisor's and student's traits, and the character…
A comparison of the transcriptome of Drosophila melanogaster in response to entomopathogenic fungus, ionizing radiation, starvation and cold shock
2015
Background The molecular mechanisms that determine the organism's response to a variety of doses and modalities of stress factors are not well understood. Results We studied effects of ionizing radiation (144, 360 and 864 Gy), entomopathogenic fungus (10 and 100 CFU), starvation (16 h), and cold shock (+4, 0 and -4°C) on an organism's viability indicators (survival and locomotor activity) and transcriptome changes in the Drosophila melanogaster model. All stress factors but cold shock resulted in a decrease of lifespan proportional to the dose of treatment. However, stress-factors affected locomotor activity without correlation with lifespan. Our data revealed both significant similarities …
Synthesis of azobenzene substituted tripod-shaped bi(p-phenylene)s. Adsorption on gold and CdS quantum-dots surfaces
2013
We report here the synthesis of several tripod-shaped oligo(p-phenylene)s with legs composed of two phenylene units. Each leg is end-capped with a thioacetate group for adhesion to metallic surfaces. An azobenzene chromophore group is present on the functional arm of the tripod. The key step in the synthesis is the Pd-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of the silicon derivative core molecule with substituted phenyl moieties and azobenzene derivatives. Gold surfaces prepared by thermal evaporation and CdS quantum-dots surfaces were covered by the tripod-shaped molecules. Modified surfaces were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), fluorescence, and Kelvin Probe analyses.
Light-induced charge separation in a donor–chromophore–acceptor nanocomposite poly[TPA-Ru(tpy)2]@ZnO
2013
The synthesis and characterisation of a new donor–chromophore–acceptor system based on poly(vinyltriphenylamine) as the electron donor and a glycine-functionalised bis(2,2′;6′,2′′-terpyridine)ruthenium(II) complex acting both as a chromophore and as an anchor group attached to ZnO nanorods as the electron acceptor are described. The TPA-containing block copolymer was synthesised by Reversible Addition Fragmentation Chain Transfer (RAFT) polymerisation and the ruthenium complex glycine conjugates prepared by Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS) were attached via post-polymerisation esterification. GPC, NMR, IR and UV-Visible spectroscopy were used to characterise the multifunctional chromoph…
