Aspidin PB, a phloroglucinol derivative, induces apoptosis in human hepatocarcinoma HepG2 cells by modulating PI3K/Akt/GSK3β pathway.

Aspidin PB, a phloroglucinol derivative isolated from Dryopteris fragrans (L.) Schott, has been previously reported to exert high biological activities. In the present study, we analyzed the apoptotic mechanisms of aspidin PB on human hepatoma cell line, HepG2. Initially, aspidin PB was shown to inhibit the growth of HepG2 cells in a time and dose-dependent manner. After treatment with aspidin PB for 72 h, 48 h and 24 h using MTT assay, the IC(50) values were 10.59 μM, 20.86 μM and 46.59 μM, respectively. Anti-inflammatory effects of chemically modified tetracyclines by the inhibition of nitric oxide and interleukin-12 synthesis in J774 cell line

We investigated the effects of chemically modified tetracyclines (CMTs) on the production of nitric oxide (NO) and on the synthesis of some cytokines: tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin(IL)-10 and IL-12 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated J774 cell line. Furthermore, we studied the ability of these drugs to modify the viability in LPS-stimulated J774 macrophages. CMTs decreased, in a dose-dependent manner, inducible NO synthase (iNOS) activity and, consequently, nitrite formation in J774 cultures. Role of pulp in flavor release and sensory perception in orange juice

This work elucidates the role of suspended solids in sensorial perception and flavor release in orange juice. The coarsest pulp (insoluble particles with a diameter of2 microm) accounted for two major physicochemical effects in orange juice samples: it retained large amounts of aroma compounds, including terpenes and aldehydes, and modified the rheological properties of the juice matrix. These phenomena strongly affected the chemical composition of the vapor phase in the juice samples. Stability of ascorbic acid in orange juices after initial use at home begins

Ascorbic acid (AA) stability in orange juices, both fresh and commercially packaged in different types of containers (Tetrabrik, glass and tin), was studied. The purpose was to ascertain how well AA is retained once use at home has commenced. The AA levels of the orange juices were measured at 0, 1, 3, 5, 67, 24, 48, 72 and 168h following squeezing in the case of fresh oranges and for commercially packaged juices following opening of the container. Storage was at 4 or 25C. Fresh juice was stored in an open jar; packaged juice in the container in which it came. When stored 7 days at 4C, retention ranged from 93.8 to 95%.

The sensorial quality of solid phase microextraction (SPME) flavor extracts from orange juice was measured by direct gas chromatogrphy-olfactometry (D-GC-O), a novel instrumental tool for evaluating odors from headspace extracts. In general, odor impressions emerging from SPME extracts poorly resembled that of the original orange juice. Supercritical CO2 extraction of essential oils from orange peel

The supercritical fluid extraction of orange essential oil was studied using dehydrated orange peel (0.0538 kg H2O kg−1 dm) from naveline cultivars as raw material and CO2 as solvent. The effect of operation conditions was analyzed in a series of experiments at 313 and 323 K and pressures between 1 and 25 MPa. Furthermore, the effect of CO2 flow rate and particle size of orange peel was studied in the range of 0.5 to 3.5 kg h−1 and 0.1 to 10 mm. Flow-cytometric enumeration of reticulocytes with the new fluorochrome 1′,3′-diethyl-4,2′-quinolylthiacyanine

Several flow-cytometric methods for reticulocyte enumeration in whole blood have been developed, with different degrees of practical use. Recently, a new fluorochrome, 1′,3′-diethyl-4,2′-quinolylthyacianine (DEQTC) was proposed in a brief report, as an alternative to thiazole orange for reticulocyte counting.
