1768 Safety culture and risk management in agriculture (sacurima)

2018

Introduction Agriculture is one of the most hazardous industries in Europe, measured by work-related injuries, diseases, disabilities and deaths. Statistics and studies show great differences in national injury and occupational disease rates, as well as approaches and support for prevention of these adverse outcomes. This EU-COST action explores reasons why agriculture lags behind other sectors, and why some countries have been more successful than others in reducing agricultural injuries and diseases. Methods Evaluation of health and safety programmes and approaches on the national level identification of knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and priorities among farmers regarding safety, health…

Simplified restructuring proceedings in Poland as an example of anti – crisis regulation due to the COVID-19 pandemic

2020

Summary The study discusses new legislative anti – crisis solutions adopted in Poland in connection with the COVID – 19 pandemic. The Polish legislator decided to introduce the so-called simplified restructuring procedure. This happened in the face of the expectations of both the jurisprudence of law and practice. On the one hand, the simplified restructuring procedure (the fifth independent type of restructuring procedure for an entrepreneur in Poland) allows for a quick, cheap and simplified conclusion of an arrangement with creditors outside the court, then approved by the court. On the other hand, the opening of such proceedings gives the debtor protection against enforcement at the cre…

Synthesis and characterization of new 1,4 and 1,5-disubstituted glucopyranosyl 1,2,3-triazole by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition

2009

Abstract A series of 1,4 and 1,5-disubstituted 1-(β- d -glucopyranosyl)-1,2,3-triazoles has been prepared in an efficient manner with excellent yields using the intermolecular 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of 1-azido-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-β- d -glucopyranose 2 to a variety of substituted alkynes phenylacethylene 3, propargyl alcohol 4, 2-butyn-1,4-diol, 5, 3-propargylbenzimidazole 6 and propargylpyrazole 7 in toluene. The reaction takes place with the formation of both 4- and 5-regioisomers.

AFM study of interaction forces in supported planar DPPC bilayers in the presence of general anesthetic halothane

2006

International audience; In spite of numerous investigations, the molecular mechanism of general anesthetics action is still not well understood. It has been shown that the anesthetic potency is related to the ability of an anesthetic to partition into the membrane. We have investigated changes in structure, dynamics and forces of interaction in supported dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) bilayers in the presence of the general anesthetic halothane. In the present study, we measured the forces of interaction between the probe and the bilayer using an atomic force microscope. The changes in force curves as a function of anesthetic incorporation were analyzed. Force measurements were in go…

Direct Observation of Nanometer-Scale Pores of Melittin in Supported Lipid Monolayers

2015

Melittin is the most studied membrane-active peptide and archetype within a large and diverse group of pore formers. However, the molecular characteristics of melittin pores remain largely unknown. Herein, we show by atomic force microscopy (AFM) that lipid monolayers in the presence of melittin are decorated with numerous regularly shaped circular pores that can be distinguished from nonspecific monolayer defects. The specificity of these pores is reinforced through a statistical evaluation of depressions found in Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers in the presence and absence of melittin, which eventually allows characterization of the melittin-induced pores at a quantitative low-resolution leve…

Force Field for Water over Pt(111): Development, Assessment, and Comparison

2018

Metal/water interfaces are key in many natural and industrial processes, such as corrosion, atmospheric, or environmental chemistry. Even today, the only practical approach to simulate large interfaces between a metal and water is to perform force-field simulations. In this work, we propose a novel force field, GAL17, to describe the interaction of water and a Pt(111) surface. GAL17 builds on three terms: (i) a standard Lennard-Jones potential for the bonding interaction between the surface and water, (ii) a Gaussian term to improve the surface corrugation, and (iii) two terms describing the angular dependence of the interaction energy. The 12 parameters of this force field are fitted again…

The effects of course length on freestyle swimming speed in elite female and male swimmers - a comparison of swimmers at national and international l…

2013

Abstract Freestyle swimming performance over 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m and 1,500 m was compared on short (25 m) and long (50 m) course for 92,196 national swimmers (i.e. annual high score list Switzerland) and 1,104 international swimmers (i.e. finalists FINA World Championships) from 2000 to 2012. National and international swimmers of both sexes were on average 2.0 ± 0.6% faster on short than on long course. Sex-related differences in swimming speed were greater on short than on long course for international and national swimmers from 50 m to 800 m. Freestyle swimming performance improved across years for international swimmers in both short- and long-course whereas only male natio…

Introduction to Gestural Similarity in Music. An Application of Category Theory to the Orchestra

2019

Mathematics, and more generally computational sciences, intervene in several aspects of music. Mathematics describes the acoustics of the sounds giving formal tools to physics, and the matter of music itself in terms of compositional structures and strategies. Mathematics can also be applied to the entire making of music, from the score to the performance, connecting compositional structures to acoustical reality of sounds. Moreover, the precise concept of gesture has a decisive role in understanding musical performance. In this paper, we apply some concepts of category theory to compare gestures of orchestral musicians, and to investigate the relationship between orchestra and conductor, a…
