This essay is meant as an introduction to the body of Cronenberg's work up to and including Spider. It is an attempt to analyze what Cronenberg calls his mission in aesthetic and ethical terms, Cronenberg having admitted to Serge Grünberg that he wanted to participate in changing contemporary norms by encouraging the spectator to see something beautiful when his initial reaction is repulsion. I argue that the utopian/dystopian aspect of the diegeses of Cronenberg's early films becomes a structuring element in his later films. Finland makes an interesting case study for the news media on public’s images and opinions (Carroll & McCombs, 2003) for several reasons. First, the news media in Finland is dominated by one major newspaper (cf. Ainamo, 2003), and it is interesting to see whether there is great consensus in public opinion due to this homogeneity (for opposing views, see Moring 2005). Second, Finland is a relatively small country (5 million inhabitants) for both business and media, and it could be speculated that the news media’s effects are less visible than in larger countries (where diffusion of news occurs directly via social contagion). Zīmola identitātes analīze korporatīvajā mājaslapā

Šis pētījums analizē “airBaltic” zīmola identitātes atspoguļojumu uzņēmuma korporatīvajā mājaslapā. Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot, kādu vēstījumu ieinteresētajām pusēm pauž valodas lietojums trijās korporatīvās mājaslapas sadaļas. “airBaltic” nostāja tika analizēta, ņemot vērā kultūras un sociālus apsvērumus. Empīriskajā daļā tika izmantots trīsdimensionālais modelis, kas ir balstīs Normana Fērklova (1992) teorijās un izpratnē par kritisko diskursa analīzi. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina par vērā ņemamām pretrunām sensitīvos jautājumos un nekonsekvenci sociālo attiecību dimensijā. Konstatētie rezultāti norāda uz paviršu attieksmi pret klientiem un topošajiem darbiniekiem.

Valodas modeļi latviešu runas atpazīšanas sistēmai

Automātiskā runas atpazīšanas sistēma (no angļu valodas automatic speech recognition – ASR) ir tāda sistēma, kas cilvēka izrunātos vārdus pārvērš tekstā. Tās pamata divas sastāvdaļas ir akustiskais un valodas modelis. Darba mērķis ir detalizēti apskatīt metodes, ar kurām tiek trenēti valodas modeļi, kā arī pārbaudīt, kā labākās no tām darbojas latviešu runas atpazīšanā. Valodas modeļu trenēšanā tika izmantotas brīvi pieejamās rīkkopas KenLM un SRILM. Local warning colour polymorphism, frequently observed in aposematic organisms, is evolutionarily puzzling. This is because variation in aposematic signals is expected to be selected against due to predators' difficulties associating several signals with a given unprofitable prey. One possible explanation for the existence of such variation is predator generalization, which occurs when predators learn to avoid one form and consequently avoid other sufficiently similar forms, relaxing selection for monomorphic signals. Although predation is commonly thought to exert the strongest selective pressure on coloration in aposematic species, sexual selection may also influence coloration. Specifically, polymorphism in aposematic species cannot be explained by natural selection alone. Males of the aposematic wood tiger moth (Arctia plantaginis) are polymorphic for hindwing coloration throughout most of their range. In Scandinavia, they display either white or yellow hindwings. Female hindwing coloration varies continuously from bright orange to red. Redder females and yellow males suffer least from bird predation.
