Cargo-Cult Containerization : A Critical View of Containers in Modern Software Development

2022

Software is increasingly developed and deployed using containers. While the concept of a container is conceptually straightforward, there are various issues to be considered while using them, ranging from technical details inside containers to the orchestration of containers that jointly form a meaningful application. In recent years, the use of containers has become so prevalent that developers have a tendency to resort to cargo-cult containerization - ritual adherence to the use of containers just because so many others are doing the same thing. In this paper, we study advantages and downsides of containers in modern-day software development. We foresee the use of containers to spread int…

DevOps ja sen vaikutukset järjestelmäevoluution hallintaan

2017

Tietojärjestelmät ovat integroituneet syvälle nyky-yhteiskuntaan. Ohjelmistot nähdään kriittisinä tukien organisaatioiden sisäistä toimintaa ja kilpailukykyä. Turbulenteista markkinoista johtuen organisaatiolta vaaditaan jatkuvaa muun- tautumista, jonka voidaan nähdä heijastuvan järjestelmävaatimusten muutok- seen.

Hyaluronic acid and its derivatives in drug delivery and imaging: Recent advances and challenges.

2015

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a biodegradable, biocompatible, nontoxic, and non-immunogenic glycosaminoglycan used for various biomedical applications. The interaction of HA with the CD44 receptor, whose expression is elevated on the surface of many types of tumor cells, makes this polymer a promising candidate for intracellular delivery of imaging and anticancer agents exploiting a receptor-mediated active targeting strategy. Therefore, HA and its derivatives have been most investigated for the development of several carrier systems intended for cancer diagnosis and therapy. Nonetheless, different and important delivery applications of the polysaccharide have also been described, including gene …

The dialectics of spatial performances: The interplay of tensions in activity-based organizing

2019

Navigating organizational workspace is often plagued with tensions that emerge from the interplay of intended designs with organizational activities and lived experiences. These tensions are evident in research findings, such as inconsistencies in the ways that employees react to new workplace designs. They call on scholars to rethink organizational space, not as a concrete, static, or ready-made ‘thing’, but as a set of ongoing performances that enact particular practices, clashes among opposites, and organizational tensions. Based on research in a Nordic company, this study reveals how tensions and responses to them in an activity-based office generate creative alternatives that enhance …

Halloysite nanotubes for efficient loading, stabilization and controlled release of insulin

2018

Hypothesis: Oral insulin administration is not actually effective due to insulin rapid degradation, inactivation and digestion by proteolytic enzymes which results in low bioavailability. Moreover insulin is poorly permeable and lack of lipophilicity. These limits can be overcome by the loading of protein in some nanostructured carrier such as halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). Experiments: Herein we propose an easy strategy to obtain HNT hybrid materials for the delivery of insulin. We report a detailed description on the thermal behavior and stability of insulin loaded and released from the HNTs hybrid by the combination of several techniques. Findings: Release experiments of insulin from the H…

Synthesis of MoO3 Nanostructures and Their Facile Conversion to MoS2 Fullerenes and Nanotubes.

2007

The fast thermolysis of ammonium molybdate leads to a mixture of MoO3 and Mo5.3O14.5(OH)2.8(H2O)1.36 with spherical and rod-like morphologies. The oxide mixture can be converted in quantitative yield to inorganic fullerene-type (IF) MoS2 and MoS2 nanotubes (NT) by H2S reduction using a facile and quick procedure. The products were studied by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). TEM analysis reveals that the spherical and rod-like morphology of the oxide precursor is preserved during the H2S treatment.

A multi-step mechanism and integrity of titanate nanoribbons.

2014

A one-step hydrothermal treatment of TiO2 powders under strongly basic conditions has been used to synthesize titanate nanoribbons. The nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized using several methods including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS) to determine their morphological, structural and chemical characteristics. The influence of the nature and size of the TiO2 precursor and of the reaction duration on the formation of the nanoribbons was investigated. The conditions required to obtain only titanate nanoribbons with a width ranging from 100 to 200 nm and several tens of micrometers in length w…

On Weakly Locally Uniformly Rotund Banach Spaces

1999

Abstract We show that every normed space E with a weakly locally uniformly rotund norm has an equivalent locally uniformly rotund norm. After obtaining a σ -discrete network of the unit sphere S E for the weak topology we deduce that the space E must have a countable cover by sets of small local diameter, which in turn implies the renorming conclusion. This solves a question posed by Deville, Godefroy, Haydon, and Zizler. For a weakly uniformly rotund norm we prove that the unit sphere is always metrizable for the weak topology despite the fact that it may not have the Kadec property. Moreover, Banach spaces having a countable cover by sets of small local diameter coincide with the descript…

Yliopistouudistuksen diskursiivinen rakentuminen Jyväskylän yliopistoyhteisössä 2009-2010

2012
