Cancer-specific survival after radical cystectomy and standardized extended lymphadenectomy for node-positive bladder cancer: prediction by lymph nod…

2009

OBJECTIVE To investigate the associations between different overall or topographically restricted lymph node (LN) variables and cancer-specific survival (CSS) after radical cystectomy (RC) and extended LN dissection (LND) with curative intent in patients with LN-positive bladder cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 2001 and 2006, 152 patients had RC with standardized extended LND for bladder cancer with curative intent. Patients with positive LNs were stratified according to the median of the LN variables (LNs removed, number of positive LNs, LN density). CSS was related to overall and topographically restricted LN variables, e.g. different levels of LND, and relationships were tested by un…

Comparison and interpretability of the available urticaria activity scores

2017

The urticaria activity score (UAS) is the gold standard for assessing disease activity in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). Two different versions, the UAS7 and UAS7TD , are currently used in clinical trials and routine care. To compare both versions and to obtain data on their interpretability, 130 CSU patients applied both versions and globally rated their disease activity as none, mild, moderate, or severe. UAS7 and UAS7TD values correlated strongly (r = .90, P < .001). Interquartile ranges for UAS7 and UAS7TD values for mild, moderate, and severe CSU were 11-20 and 10-24, 16-30 and 16-32, and 27-37 and 28-40. UAS7 values were slightly, but significantly lower as compare…

The Urticaria Activity Score-Validity, Reliability, and Responsiveness.

2018

Background Chronic spontaneous urticaria is characterized by fluctuating symptoms. Its activity is assessed with the urticaria activity score (UAS). Two versions of the urticaria activity score used for 7 consecutive days (UAS7) are available: (1) The guideline-recommended UAS7, with once-daily documentation, and (2) the UAS7TD, with twice-daily documentation. Objective To better characterize both UAS7 versions with regard to their validity, reliability, sensitivity to change, minimal important difference (MID), and smallest detectable change (SDC). Methods One hundred thirty adult patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria completed both UAS7 versions, the Patients Global Assessment (PatG…

Age and gender influence on HIDRAdisk outcomes in adalimumab-treated hidradenitis suppurativa patients.

2019

Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease characterized by a significant impairment of patients’ quality of life (QoL). It has been recently found that clinical severity of HS does not correlate well with QoL. Therefore, it is important to enhance the evaluation of severity considering the disease burden on QoL. Recently, a new graphical tool able to better describe HS burden, the so-called HIDRAdisk, has been introduced. Objective: To investigate the utility of HIDRAdisk in clinical practice before and after treatment and to analyse whether specific factors such as age and gender may influence the outcomes in patients with moderate-to-severe…

Treatment of refractory uveitis with adalimumab: a prospective multicenter study of 131 patients.

2011

To evaluate adalimumab therapy in refractory uveitis.Prospective case series.A total of 131 patients with refractory uveitis and intolerance or failure to respond to prednisone and at least 1 other systemic immunosuppressive drug participated.Patients received a 40 mg adalimumab subcutaneous injection every other week for 6 months. The associated immunosuppressants were tapered after administering 3 adalimumab injections (week 6).Degree of anterior and posterior chamber inflammation (Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature Working Group criteria), immunosuppression load (as defined by Nussenblatt et al), visual acuity (logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution [logMAR]), and macular thic…

Stereotactic fractionated irradiation of optic nerve sheath meningioma: a new treatment alternative

2002

Background: Primary optic nerve sheath meningioma (ONSM) is a rare but almost invariably blinding tumour when its natural history is observed in a “wait and see” strategy. Surgery has hitherto only been advocated in case of progressive disease involving intracranial structures, as it leads to iatrogenic blindness in the overwhelming majority of cases. Therefore, treatment options bearing lesser risk of functional deterioration are highly desirable, both in cases of intracranial involvement as well as during earlier phases of the disease which are currently generally left untreated. The authors report the outcome of the largest series of patients to date treated by stereotactic fractionated …

Intravitreal clindamycin and dexamethasone for zone 1 toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis at twenty-four months.

2009

Purpose To report the anatomic and functional outcomes of intravitreal clindamycin and dexamethasone for the treatment of zone 1 toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis (TRC). Patients had 1 or more of the following indications for local therapy: intolerance to oral medication, contraindication to oral medication because of pregnancy, lack of response despite oral antimicrobial treatment, or treatment with concomitant oral and local therapy to avoid or limit foveal or optic disc involvement. Design Noncomparative, retrospective, multicentric interventional case series. Participants We reviewed the medical records of 12 consecutive patients (eyes) with posterior pole (zone 1) TRC who were treated week…

Differences in visual performance of AcrySof ReSTOR IOL in high and low myopic eyes.

2009

PURPOSE To determine the differences in refractive and visual results obtained in eyes with high and low myopia after multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. METHODS Monocular visual acuity for distance and near, with and without distance correction, and photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity were measured at 6 months after surgery in 152 myopic eyes implanted with the AcrySof ReSTOR Natural (SN60D3) IOL. Two groups were created: high and low myopia (76 eyes in each). RESULTS Monocular best distance-corrected visual acuity was 0.02+/-0.06 logMAR for low myopes and 0.05+/-0.09 logMAR for high myopes. Monocular best distance-corrected near visual acuity was 0.04+/-0.05 and 0.07+/-0…
