The Design of Effective Maintenance Outsourcing Contracts

2009

Recent developments in maintenance planning and management demonstrate that the establishment of optimized maintenance policies may drastically improve the performance and reduce the operating cost of facilities. However maintenance activities are typically outside of the core business of production facilities, hence enterprises often fail to catch the opportunities that may originate by properly optimized management strategies. A strategic maintenance management should hence encompass the possibility of outsourcing maintenance activities to ensure the necessary perfomance of production systems, while allowing enterprises to concentrate their resources on their core activities. In order to …

El Contrato De Trabajo En El S. XXI: La Economma Colaborativa, On-Demand Economy, Crowdsorcing, Uber Economy Y Otras Formas De Descentralizaciin Prod…

2015

Best Practices for International eSourcing of Software Products and Services

2008

This paper analyzes how the information and communications technology-supported international eSourcing of software products and services (IeS) can be effectively executed. The extant literature falls short of providing a systematic and detailed enough set of best practices to guide IeS. This paper presents best practices for IeS to facilitate further research, and to help managers and other stakeholders to understand, execute, and proactively improve and manage international eSourcing. The practices emphasize the need to establish and enact rigorous, mature, and quantitatively managed eSourcing life- cycles in order to transcend temporal, geographical, social, technical, and other boundari…

Reintegration Failure and Outsourcing Upside: Organisation of Public Transport in Norway

2014

AbstractAfter two decades of public sector outsourcing, debates for reintegration of services back into the public sector have emerged. However, so far outsourcing remains prevalent and reintegration is sparsely utilised. An in-depth analysis of the reorganisation of public transport in a Norwegian county, Sor-Trondelag, provides three key reasons as to why there is an ‘outsourcing upside’. Firstly, existing structures limit available alternatives for legislators, thereby making reintegration of public services back into public hands difficult. Secondly, under certain conditions competitive tendering may enhance political steering and thus make outsourcing politically desirable. Thirdly, th…

The futures of offshoring FDI in high-tech sectors

2010

This paper examines what is still a relatively new phenomenon in the literature, the outsourcing/offshoring of high-technology manufacturing and services. This has become a concern for both policy makers and academics for two reasons. Firstly, policy makers have become concerned that the offshoring of high-technology sectors in the West will follow the more labour intensive sectors, and move to lower cost locations. Secondly, international business theory has tended to view low costs, and high levels of indigenous technological development as being the two main drivers of location advantage in the attraction of FDI. We show that this may not be the case for offshored high-technology manufac…

Product Recalls and Supply Chain Responsiveness

2015

The increase in product recalls which occurred in recent years is mainly due to the globalization of the supply chains, in particular the outsourcing and offshoring of manufacturing and distribution. Besides being the main cause of recall, in this paper we argue that outsourcing (domestic and international) and offshoring may also affect the supply chain responsiveness in managing the recall itself. We test a number of hypotheses on this theme empirically on the pharmaceutical sector by using data collected from the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Transnational textile outsourcing: exceptional or standard

2021

The aim of this investigation is to quantitatively analyse the new methods of production and organisation in the textile business. Free flow of funds together with textile hyper-consumption have led to organisational models based on processes of externalisation, outsourcing, export, internationalisation and so on. Because of the transverse nature of the study subject, as well as the opportunities and asymmetries generated in the textile industry, a Delphi analysis is proposed as a way to analyse this new paradigm. A panel of 55 experts were given multidisciplinary questionnaires and their responses were studied, taking into account the degree of affinity (test) of the statements posed in or…

The effect of buyer specific-monitoring procedures on buyer control in dynamic supply chain links

2015

Based on transaction cost analysis (TCA), resource dependency theory (RDT), and supply chain management literature, this study explores the effect of buyer-specific monitoring procedures on buyer control in industrial buyer-seller transactions, particularly in relation to how environmental uncertainty affects the buying firm's ability to exercise control over the supplier firm. The research design is based on primary data from a survey of 168 industrial buyer-seller relationships which map a broad set of dimensions of the economic transactions and structures in these business-to-business relationships. The empirical findings provide support for the hypotheses, and demonstrate that the effec…

A roadmap towards improving managed security services from a privacy perspective

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Ethics and Information Technology. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10676-014-9348-3 This paper proposes a roadmap for how privacy leakages from outsourced managed security services using intrusion detection systems can be controlled. The paper first analyses the risk of leaking private or confidential information from signature-based intrusion detection systems. It then discusses how the situation can be improved by developing adequate privacy enforcement methods and privacy leakage metrics in order to control and reduce the leakage of private and confidential information over time. Such metrics should allow fo…
