The reaction of As4Se4 with stoichiometric amounts of [Cp*Fe2(CO)4] (Cp* = C5Me5) in boiling toluene forms [Cp2*Fe2As2Se2] (1) in good yield. X-ray crystallography shows 1 to have a triple-decker structure which comprises a tetraatomic mu,eta4:4-As2Se2 ligand. Density functional theory (DFT) and extended Huckel molecular orbital (EHMO) calculations confirm that the As2Se2 ligand behaves as a four-electron pi donor. Oxidation of 1 with equimolar amounts of [(C5H5)2Fe]PF6, Br2 and I2, respectively, gave compounds 2-4. The formation of adipocere slows further decomposition and preserves corpses for decades or even centuries. This resistance to degradation is a serious problem, especially with regard to the reuse of graves after regular resting times. We present results from an exhumation series in modern graveyards where coffins from water-saturated earth graves contained adipocere embedded in black humic material after resting times of about 30 years. Based on the assumption that this humic material resulted from in situ degradation of adipocere, its presence contradicts the commonly held opinion that adipocere decomposition only occurs under aerobic conditions. Abstract In this work, we report the effect of an organoclay on the photochemical weathering of nanocomposites based on a poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT)/poly(lactic acid) (PLA) blend. The evolution of physicochemical properties was monitored by integrating spectroscopic, mechanical, and morphological analyses. A robust relationship was found between the molecular transformations of the polymer macromolecules and the morpho-mechanical properties of irradiated films. Multilayer films, by using postconsumer materials in the central layer, i.e., multilayer composition: virgin polyethylene/postconsumer polymer/virgin polyethylene, allows to get a film for greenhouses coverage with good mechanical properties and photo-oxidation resistance, similar to that of the films made from virgin material and certainly better than the photo-oxidation resistance of the film made melt blending the virgin polyethylene and the postconsumer polymer. Carbon nitride as photocatalyst in organic selective transformations

Abstract Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a metal-free conjugated polymer which has become a new research hotspot in photocatalysis. It can be used for solar energy exploitation like in solar energy organic synthesis, one of the most new and appealing green applications of heterogeneous photocatalysis. This chapter resumes the state-of-the-art and progresses in the application of heterogeneous visible light photocatalysis in organic selective transformations by using C3N4 as photocatalyst.

Chemical and physico‐chemical changes during the dry‐cured processing of deer loin

The changes on chemical composition, physico‐chemical parameters, free fatty acids and free amino acids content of dry‐cured deer loin were investigated at day 0, 30 and 60 of dry‐cured process. On the whole, except for pH values (≈5.6) and composition (fat: 4.6–5.2%; protein: ≈73%; ash: ≈17.5%) that did not show differences between the processing days, the other physico‐chemical parameters were affected by curing process. Colour parameters and moisture (from 69 to 38.4%) decreased while the hardness increase from 12.35 to 342 N and lipid oxidation (from 0.2 to 0.52 mg MDA/kg) increased as dry‐cured stage progresses. In polyphenols redox systems, the solvent plays a fundamental role in the chemical behaviour of these compounds. Antioxidants can react in different ways with the prooxidant molecules. We have found differences in the antioxidant capacity of flavonoids such as naringin, neohesperidin, neoericitrin, hesperidin, narirutin didymin and the related flavones naringenin, hesperetin eriodictyol and isosakuratenin, when they are in the presence of radicals and solved in water or in an alcohol mixture.

[EN] Two new mononuclear octahedral manganese(III) complexes with the tetradentate equatorial ligand o-phenylenebis(oxamate) (opba) and two aquo (1a) or two pyridine (1b) axial ligands have been synthesized and characterized structurally, magnetically, and electrochemically.
