Peak oxygen uptake cut-points to identify children at increased cardiometabolic risk - The PANIC Study.
2019
We aimed to develop cut -points for directly measured peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak ) to identify boys and girls at increased cardiometabolic risk using different scaling methods to control for body size and composition. Altogether 352 children (186 boys, 166 girls) aged 9 – 11 years were included in the analyses. We measured VO2peak directly during a maximal cycle ergometer exercise test and lean body mass (LM) by bioelectrical impedance. We computed a sex - and age -specific cardiometabolic risk score (CRS) by summing important cardiometabolic risk factors and defined increased cardiometabolic risk as >1 standard deviation above the mean of CRS. Receiver operating characteristics curves wer…
Etäteknologiaa sisältävien liikunnallisten kuntoutusinterventioiden vaikuttavuus maksimaaliseen hapenottokykyyn : järjestelmällinen kirjallisuuskatsa…
2017
Kirjallisuushaku tehtiin (2000–…
Effect of Stacking Sequence and Sodium Bicarbonate Treatment on Quasi-Static and Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Flax/Jute Epoxy-Based Composites
2019
The present paper deals with the investigation of quasi-static and dynamic mechanical response of epoxy-based composites reinforced with flax and/or jute plain weave fabrics. In order to evaluate the influence of the stacking sequence, two monolithic laminates reinforced with flax or jute fibers and two hybrid flax/jute laminates were manufactured through the vacuum infusion technique. Furthermore, an eco-friendly and cost-effective surface treatment based on fiber soaking in a sodium bicarbonate solution was employed to improve the fiber-matrix adhesion. The mechanical characterization (by means of quasi-static flexural, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and Charpy impact tests) allowed …
Dissimilar Regulation of Antimicrobial Proteins in the Midgut of Spodoptera exigua Larvae Challenged with Bacillus thuringiensis Toxins or Baculoviru…
2015
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and lysozymes are the main effectors of the insect immune system, and they are involved in both local and systemic responses. Among local responses, midgut immune reaction plays an important role in fighting pathogens that reach the insect body through the oral route, as do many microorganisms used in pest control. Under this point of view, understanding how insects defend themselves locally during the first phases of infections caused by food-borne pathogens is important to further improve microbial control strategies. In the present study, we analyzed the transcriptional response of AMPs and lysozymes in the midgut of Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae…
A Co36Cluster Assembled from the Reaction of Cobalt Pivalate with 2,3-Dicarboxypyrazine
2009
A record Co36 cluster is prepared. This mixed-valent compound containing CoII and CoIII centers is formed in the reaction of a dinuclear cobalt pivalate species with the polydentate 2,3-dicarboxypyrazine ligand. In terms of magnetic properties it behaves as a {Co16-Co16} supramolecular dimer in which the S = A spin ground states of each monomer do not interact. Fil: Alborés, Pablo. Effects of Intranasal Oxytocin on Emotion Regulation in Insecure Adolescents: Study Protocol for a Double-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial
2016
Background: Emotional dysregulation and impaired attachment are potential contributors to the development of psychopathology in adolescence. This raises the question of whether oxytocin (OT), the paradigmatic “attachment hormone,” may be beneficial in such contexts. Recent evidence suggests that intranasal administration of OT increases affiliative behavior, including trust and empathy. OT may also facilitate social reciprocity by attenuating the stress response to interpersonal conflict. To date, few studies have investigated the effects of intranasal oxytocin (IN-OT) on neurophysiological emotion regulation strategies in healthy adolescents, particularly during parent-adolescent interacti…

+++

The oxydoreduction potentials are determined for a number of wines of champagne before and after the second prise de mousse fermentation. By illuminating disgorged and non disgorged wines, the authors of this article …
Data from: Evolution of bacterial life history traits is sensitive to community structure
2016
Very few studies have experimentally assessed the evolutionary effects of species interactions within the same trophic level. Here we show that when Serratia marcescens evolve in multispecies communities, their growth rate exceeds the growth rate of the bacteria that evolved alone, whereas the biomass yield gets lower. In addition to the community effects per se, we found that few species in the communities caused strong effects on S. marcescens evolution. The results indicate that evolutionary responses (of a focal species) are different in communities, compared to species evolving alone. Moreover, selection can lead to very different outcomes depending on the community structure. Such con…
Data from: Propagule pressure increase and phylogenetic diversity decrease community’s susceptibility to invasion
2017
Invasions pose a large threat to native species, but the question of why some species are more invasive, and some communities more prone to invasions than others, is far from solved. Using ten different three-species bacterial communities, we tested experimentally if the phylogenetic relationships between an invader and a resident community and propagule pressure affect invasion probability. We found that greater diversity in phylogenetic distances between the resident community members and the invader lowered invasion success, and higher propagule pressure increased invasion success whereas phylogenetic distance had no clear effect. In the later stages of invasion phylogenetic diversity ha…
Special Features of the Hippocampal Formation with Respect to Seizure Conditions
1987
The hippocampus has long been known as a region particularly prone to epileptiform discharges (Kandel et al. 1961). Connections and physiology of this archaic cortical structure are relatively well charac-terized and a wealth of information on features favoring exaggerated neuronal activity has emerged in recent years. The lamellar organization of the hippo-campus (Andersen et al. 1971) may be one of these features; it certainly has facilitated their investigation. Tissue slices cut along the lamellae, perpendicular to the axis of the structure, contain a relatively undisturbed chain of neurons which can be rigorously investigated in vitro. The results from such experiments have allowed mod…
