An innovative ovine cheese enriched with red grape pomace powder (GPP) was produced to improve the functional properties of Vastedda cheese typology. Vastedda cheese making was performed adding GPP and four selected Lactococcus lactis strains (Mise36, Mise94, Mise169 and Mise190). For each strain, 40 L of pasteurized ewe’s milk was divided into two aliquots representing control and experimental trials. Although thermal performance is widely recognized to be pivotal in determining species' distributions, assessment of this performance is often based on laboratory acclimated individuals, neglecting their proximate thermal history. Se han estudiado las interacciones sinergicas entre la goma de garrofin (LBG) y dos tipos de carragenanos (kappa y lambda). Para cada mezcla se obtuvo el indice de sinergia viscosa, Iy, en funcion de la relacion de concentraciones, z =c'LBG/c'car, y de la velocidad de cizalla. Los valores de estos indices disminuyeron al aumentar la velocidad de cizalla en ambos sistemas binarios. Is it advantageous for Atlantic salmon to be triploid at lower temperatures?

Marine organisms living at low temperatures tend to have larger genomes and larger cells which suggest that these traits can be beneficial in colder environments. In fish, triploidy (three complete sets of chromosomes) can be induced experimentally following fertilization, which provides a model system to investigate the hypothesis that larger cells and genomes offers a physiological advantage at low temperatures. Stabilization of an enzymatic extract from Penicillium camemberti containing lipoxygenase and hydroperoxide lyase activities

International audience; The stabilization of an enzymatic extract, obtained from Penicillium camemberti containing lipoxygenase (LOX) and hydroperoxide lyase (HPL) activities, was investigated using selected additives. Although the addition of KCl (86%, w/w) to the enzymatic extract decreased slightly (7%) the LOX activity, it increased HPL activity by 2.25 fold; however, the addition of dextran resulted in the inactivation of both enzymatic activities. Flower abscission in Vitis vinifera L. triggered by gibberellic acid and shade discloses differences in the underlying metabolic pathways

Understanding abscission is both a biological and an agronomic challenge. Flower abscission induced independently by shade and gibberellic acid (GAc) sprays was monitored in grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) growing under a soilless greenhouse system during two seasonal growing conditions, in an early and late production cycle. Physiological and metabolic changes triggered by each of the two distinct stimuli were determined. Environmental conditions exerted a significant effect on fruit set as showed by the higher natural drop rate recorded in the late production cycle with respect to the early cycle. After a rather turbulent taxonomic history, Dysphanieae (Chenopodioideae, Amaranthaceae) were established to contain five genera, four of which are monospecific (Cycloloma, Neomonolepis, Suckleya, Teloxys) and geographically restricted, and the fifth genus, Dysphania, having a nearly worldwide distribution and comprising ca. 50 species.
