New simple convergent synthetic method for benzyl aryl ether dendritic structures

Abstract Phenolic benzyl aryl ether based dendrons with an ester periphery are easily prepared by convergent strategy through hydroxy substituted methyl benzoates and easily attainable benzoyl protected 3,5-bis(bromomethyl)phenol. The dendrons obtained can afford dendronized styrenes.

Microbiological and ageing performance of polyhydroxyalkanoate-based multilayer structures of interest in food packaging

Polyhydroxyalkanoates undergo crystallization during film processing and storage. In this paper, the physico–chemical ageing properties of multilayer structures based on a commercial polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) and a polyhydroxybutyrate-co-valerate copolymer with 3% valerate content (PHBV3), containing a nanostructured zein interlayer, were analysed. The microbiological safety of the films was also evaluated by monitoring the growth of an inoculum of Listeria monocytogenes over time. Characterization and Processability of Blends of Polylactide Acid with a New Biodegradable Medium-Chain-Length Polyhydroxyalkanoate

In this work the processability and the mechanical performance of polylactide acid (PLA) based blends with a sample of a new biodegradable medium-chain-length poly (hydroxyalkanoate) (PHA) were investigated. The two polymers are incompatible with scarce adhesion and with the dispersed PHA particles size increasing with the PHA content. Rheological tests in shear flow indicate that adding PHA improves the processability of the matrix by increasing the content of this second component in the blend, as observed also for the torque curves, due to the very low viscosity of this new sample of PHA. Abstract Phthalonitrile, acetoxime and cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate are combined in acetone with formation of stable and easy to handle Co(II) complex [Co{C6H4C(NH2)NC(ONCMe2)2}2](NO3)2 (1). Interaction of 1 with excess alcohols ROH (also used as solvents) and 2 equiv of (NH4)2S leads, in one-step, to alkyl 2-carbamimidoylbenzoate nitrates [C6H4COOR{2-C(NH2)2}]NO3 [R=CH3, C2H5, C3H7, CH(CH3)2]. Similarly, N1,N3-dialkyl-1H-isoindole-1,3-diaminate nitrates [C6H4C(NR′)NC(NR′)]NO3 [R=C3H7, C4H9, C(CH3)3, CH2CH2OH, CH2CH2SC2H5) can be directly produced from 1 by its reaction with 4 equiv of amines and 2 equiv of (NH4)2S in alcoholic media.

Resistance of tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) to the fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea requires complex interplay between hormonal signalling. In this study, we explored the involvement of new oxylipins in the tomato basal and induced response to this necrotroph through the functional analysis of the tomato α-dioxygenase2 (α-DOX2)-deficient mutant divaricata. Abstract Pretreatment with zinc acexamate (25–100 mg kg−1 i.p.) inhibited acid and pepsinogen secretion in the pylorus-ligated rat. Zinc acexamate (5–50 mg kg−1 p.o.) also inhibited the increases in acid secretion induced by carbachol (10 μg kg−1) and 2-deoxy-D-glucose (200 mg kg−1) in the perfused stomach of the anaesthetized rat. A delayed antisecretory effect was observed with this drug on histamine induced responses. High concentrations of zinc acexamate (10−5-10−2 M) did not modify the in-vitro activity of pepsin. Outcomes were reported as means±SD, mean differences with 95% CI, or standardized mean differences. Statistical heterogeneity was tested using χ2 (Q) and I2. Sources of bias and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system (GRADE) were considered. Overall, 1520 patients were included. Only 7.4% of trials were free of bias.
