Designing binuclear transition metal complexes: a new example of the versatility of N,N′-bis(2-aminobenzyl)-4,13-diaza-18-crown-6
2005
[Abstract] N,N′-Bis(2-aminobenzyl)-4,13-diaza-18-crown-6 (L) is a versatile receptor able to adapt to the coordinative preferences of different metal cation guests. With first-row transition metal ions, L tends to form binuclear complexes but, depending on the nature of the particular metal ion, the structure of the binuclear complex may be very different. Herein we report a study of the structure and magnetic properties of the corresponding nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes. The X-ray crystal structure of the nickel complex (1), with formula [Ni2(L)(CH3CN)4](ClO4)4·CH3CN, shows that this compound presents a symmetric coordination environment with L adopting an anti arrangement. Each Ni(I…
New BDH-TTP/[MIII(C5O5)3]3– (M = Fe, Ga) Isostructural Molecular Metals
2012
Two new isostructural molecular metals-(BDH-TTP)(6)[M(III)(C(5)O(5))(3)]·CH(2)Cl(2) (BDH-TTP = 2,5-bis(1,3-dithiolan-2-ylidene)-1,3,4,6-tetrathiapentalene, where M = Fe (1) and Ga (2))-have been prepared and fully characterized. Compound 1 is a molecular conductor showing paramagnetic behavior, which is due to the presence of isolated [Fe(C(5)O(5))(3)](3-) complexes with high-spin S = (5)/(2) Fe(III) metal ions. The conductivity originates from the BDH-TTP organic donors arranged in a κ-type molecular packing. At 4 kbar, compound 1 behaves as a metal down to ∼100 K, showing high conductivity (∼10 S cm(-1)) at room temperature. When applying a pressure higher than 7 kbar, the metal-insulator…
Nautilus pompilius Hemocyanin: 9 Å Cryo-EM Structure and Molecular Model Reveal the Subunit Pathway and the Interfaces between the 70 Functional Units
2007
Hemocyanins are giant extracellular oxygen carriers in the hemolymph of many molluscs. Nautilus pompilius (Cephalopoda) hemocyanin is a cylindrical decamer of a 350 kDa polypeptide subunit that in turn is a "pearl-chain" of seven different functional units (FU-a to FU-g). Each globular FU has a binuclear copper centre that reversibly binds one O(2) molecule, and the 70-FU decamer is a highly allosteric protein. Its primary structure and an 11 A cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structure have recently been determined, and the crystal structures of two related FU types are available in the databanks. However, in molluscan hemocyanin, the precise subunit pathway within the decamer, the inter…
The Sequence of a Gastropod Hemocyanin (HtH1 from Haliotis tuberculata)
2000
The eight functional units (FUs), a-h, of the hemocyanin isoform HtH1 from Haliotis tuberculata (Prosobranchia, Archaeogastropoda) have been sequenced via cDNA, which provides the first complete primary structure of a gastropod hemocyanin subunit. With 3404 amino acids (392 kDa) it is the largest polypeptide sequence ever obtained for a respiratory protein. The cDNA comprises 10,758 base pairs and includes the coding regions for a short signal peptide, the eight different functional units, a 3'-untranslated region of 478 base pairs, and a poly(A) tail. The predicted protein contains 13 potential sites for N-linked carbohydrates (one for HtH1-a, none for HtH1-c, and two each for the other si…
Macrocyclic oligoureas with xanthene and diphenyl ether units
2009
Two cyclic oligoureas with 64- and 80-membered rings in which two sets of three or four rigid xanthene (X) units are connected via flexible diphenyl ether (D) units were synthesized by a stepwise fragment condensation. The compounds were characterized by (1)H NMR and ESI mass spectrometry. The structure of the cyclic octamer (XXXDXXXD) was additionally confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis. The molecule assumes a strongly folded conformation with distorted C(2)-symmetry, stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Surprisingly, intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the macrocycles were not observed. (1)H NMR spectra suggest a C(2) symmetrical conformation of the octamer in solution al…
Bis(diethylenetriamine-κ3N)nickel(II) 5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamidate chloride monohydrate
2000
In the X-ray crystal structure of the title complex, [Ni(C(4)H(13)N(3))(2)](C(2)H(3)N(4)O(2)S(2))Cl.H(2)O, the coordination polyhedron is composed of non-centrosymmetric [Ni(diethylenetriamine)(2)](2+) cations in which the triamine ligands coordinate to the metal centre as tridentate ligands in a facial position. The Ni(II) ions are linked to six N atoms in an octahedral arrangement, slightly compressed in one extreme. The sulfonamide behaves as a counter-ion instead of as a ligand. Important information about the deprotonated sulfonamide group conformation has been obtained.

Subunit organization of the abalone Haliotis tuberculata hemocyanin type 2 (HtH2), and the cDNA sequence encoding its functional units d, e, f, g and…
1999
We have developed a HPLC procedure to isolate the two different hemocyanin types (HtH1 and HtH2) of the European abalone Haliotis tuberculata. On the basis of limited proteolytic cleavage, two-dimensional immunoelectrophoresis, PAGE, N-terminal protein sequencing and cDNA sequencing, we have identified eight different 40-60-kDa functional units (FUs) in HtH2, termed HtH2-a to HtH2-h, and determined their linear arrangement within the elongated 400-kDa subunit. From a Haliotis cDNA library, we have isolated and sequenced a cDNA clone which encodes the five C-terminal FUs d, e, f, g and h of HtH2. As shown by multiple sequence alignments, defg of HtH2 correspond structurally to defg from Octo…
Interactions of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine with selected amino acids and with albumin
2015
Effect of selected amino acids (glycine, l-histidine, l-cysteine, l-serine, l-tryptophan) and albumin on the spectroscopic properties and photostability of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine (ZnPcOC) was explored in the phosphate buffer at a pH of 7.0. The photodegradation of ZnPcOC alone and in the presence of amino acids or albumin has been investigated in aqueous phase using UV-366 nm and daylight irradiation. Kinetic analysis showed that the interaction with amino acids or albumin enhances the photostability of ZnPcOC. To answer the question of how zinc phthalocyanine interacts with amino acids extensive DFT calculations were performed. Analysis of the optimized geometry features of ZnPcOC:…
La difficile taxinomie des situations intermédiaires sur le marché du travail : une illustration à partir du processus d'insertion des docteurs
2001
Actes des 8èmes journées d'études Céreq/Lasmas-Institut du Longitudinal, L'analyse longitudinale du marché du travail, Marseille, 17 et 18 mai 2001; International audience; This paper attempts to analyse the recent labour market prospects for scientific PhD graduates in France. Firstly, we propose an assessment of the labour market situation of PhD graduates three years after the completion of their theses, using a standard categorical analysis of labour market activities. Secondly, we use unemployment durations to study the difficulties PhD graduates encounter when they enter the labour market.
