Copper(II) and nickel(II) chelates with dihydrogen Trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetate(2−) ion (H2CDTA2−). Synthesis, XRD structure a…

1996

Abstract Stoichiometric reactions of metal hydroxycarbonates with the acid trans -1,2-cyclohexanediaminotetraacetic acid (H 4 CDTA) in water under reduced pressure yielded [Cu(H 2 CDTA)]·H 2 O ( I ) and [Ni(H 2 CDTA) (H 2 O)]·4H 2 O ( II ). Both compounds were characterized by TG-DTA analysis, spectral properties (IR, reflectance and RSE) and X-ray diffraction. In I the copper(II) atom exhibits a distorted square-base coordination (type 4+1) by chelation of one H 2 CDTA 2− ligand through two N and two O (carboxylate) at the square base and one O (carboxylic) at the apex of the coordination polyhedron; a second carboxymethyl group of H 2 CDTA 2− remains free. In II the H 2 CDTA 2− chelating …

Autumnal shift from diurnal to nocturnal peaking feeding activity ofRutilus rutilusin boreal lake littoral zones

2008

The possibility that the feeding activity of roach Rutilus rutilus shows an autumnal shift towards hours of lower light intensity in shallow and illuminated habitats in temperate watercourses as a consequence of relatively increasing daytime predation risk was tested in a littoral zone of a large boreal lake using trapping experiments. Autumnal feeding activity of R. rutilus first showed a striking shift from day to twilight when water temperature fell from 20 to 10° C, and a low but steady night activity prevailed in late autumn, when temperature had fallen to 5° C and the length of the night had increased. The size of the captured littoral R. rutilus also increased throughout the autumn. …

Function and Sacrality of Philoctetes' Bow

2019

Lipoic acid lessens Th1-mediated inflammation in lipopolysaccharide-induced uveitis reducing selectively Th1 lymphocytes-related cytokines release

2013

AbstractInflammation results in the production of free radicals. We evaluated the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacity of lipoic acid in an experimental uveitis model upon a subcutaneous injection of endotoxin into Lewis rats. The role of oxidative stress in the endotoxin-induced uveitis model is well-known. Besides, the Th1 response classically performs a central part in the immunopathological process of experimental autoimmune uveitis. Exogenous sources of lipoic acid have been shown to exhibit antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Our results show that lipoic acid treatment plays a preventive role in endotoxin-induced oxidative stress at 24 h post-administration and reduced…

Emergency sclerotherapy versus vasoactive drugs for variceal bleeding in cirrhosis

2003

Abstract Background & aims: Emergency sclerotherapy is used as a first-line therapy for variceal bleeding in cirrhosis, although pharmacologic treatment stops bleeding in most patients. We performed a meta-analysis comparing emergency sclerotherapy with pharmacologic treatment. Methods: MEDLINE (1968–2002), EMBASE (1986–2002), and the Cochrane Library (2002;4) were searched to retrieve randomized controlled trials comparing sclerotherapy with vasopressin (± nitroglycerin), terlipressin, somatostatin, or octreotide for variceal bleeding in cirrhosis. Outcome measures were failure to control bleeding, rebleeding, blood transfusions, adverse events, and mortality. Results: Fifteen trials were …

Octreotide compared with placebo in a treatment strategy for early rebleeding in cirrhosis. A double blind, randomized pragmatic trial.

1998

beta-Blockers and sclerotherapy prevent long-term upper digestive rebleeding in cirrhosis but they seem ineffective for early rebleeding. We compared octreotide with a placebo for the prevention of early rebleeding in cirrhotic patients. After control of acute upper digestive bleeding, 262 consecutive cirrhotic patients were randomized to octreotide 100 microgram subcutaneously three times a day for 15 days (n = 131) or to the placebo (n = 131), in a double blind pragmatic trial in which beta-blockers and/or sclerotherapy were allowed together with the experimental treatment. Separate randomization and analysis were performed according to whether patients were eligible for beta-blockers and…

Deletion of organic cation transporter Oct3 promotes hepatic fibrosis via upregulation of TGFβ

2019

Organic cation transporters (OCT) are responsible for the intracellular uptake and detoxification of a broad spectrum of endogenous and exogenous substrates. OCTs are downregulated in cholestasis, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma, but the underlying molecular mechanisms and downstream effects of OCT deletion are unknown. Oct3-knockout ( Oct3−/−; FVB.Slc22a3tm10pb) and wild-type (WT; FVB) mice were subject to escalating doses of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) or thioacetamide (TAA) for 6 wk to induce advanced parenchymal liver fibrosis. Secondary biliary fibrosis was generated by bile duct ligation. Liver fibrosis was assessed by hydroxyproline determination, quantitative Sirius red morp…
