A heuristic for problem formalization in agent based simulation studies
2015
Agent Based Modeling and Simulation (ABMS) is considered an effective approach for conducting simulation studies in many fields. In order to develop high quality simulation models, methodological approaches are demanded. In such direction we are moving by proposing a heuristic for the formalization of agent based simulation problems. The proposed heuristic is based on some guidelines developed for identifying the main elements of the problem domain description by analysing verbs and their common taxonomy in grammar.
Students' school performance, task-focus, and situation-specific motivation
2015
Going beyond studies of individual differences in and profiles of students' motivation, we investigated situation-specific (intra-personal) experiences of autonomous (enjoyment, interest, and task choice) and controlled (having to do, and the teacher wanting them to do a task) motivation across learning situations during one week, and how these were related to student characteristics (teacher rated academic performance and task-focus). Three-hundred and fourteen primary school students (Years 5 and 6) completed electronic questionnaires on Personal Digital Assistants, on an average of 11.2 learning episodes during a week. Multilevel Structural Equation Models provided support for a model ba…
A Distributed Framework for Scalable Large-Scale Crowd Simulation
2007
Emerging applications in the area of Emergency Response and Disaster Management are increasingly demanding interactive capabilities to allow for the quick understanding of a critical situation, in particular in urban environments. A key component of these interactive simulations is how to recreate the behavior of a crowd in real- time while supporting individual behaviors. Crowds can often be unpredictable and present mixed behaviors such as panic or aggression, that can very rapidly change based on unexpected new elements introduced into the environment. We present preliminary research specifically oriented towards the simulation of large crowds for emergency response and rescue planning s…
Infinitely many periodic solutions for a second-order nonautonomous system
2003
The existence of infinitely many solutions for a second-order nonautonoumous system was investigated. Some multiplicity results for problem (P) under very different assumptions on the potential G were established. It was shown that infinitely many solutions follow from a variational principle by B. Ricceri.
A fuzzy programming method for optimization of autonomous logistics objects
2013
Recently several studies have explored the realization of autonomous control in production and logistic operations. In doing so, it has been tried to transmit the merit of decision-making from central controllers with offline decisions to decentralized controllers with local and real-time decision makings. However, this mission has still some drawbacks in practice. Lack of global optimization is one of them, i.e., the lost chain between the autonomous decentralized decisions at operational level and the centralized mathematical optimization with offline manner at tactical and strategic levels. This distinction can be reasonably solved by considering fuzzy parameters in mathematical programm…
Autonomous agent system using dispatching rules in the negotiation protocol
2002
In this paper, the most important results obtained by the simulated application of autonomous agent paradigms to a. real factory are presented. The classical rules of dispatching are compared with the autonomous agents approach. In particular, the possibility of redesigning the negotiation rules in terms of currency in order to take into account even non-time-related costs is considered. Finally, a new project on the effective application of the autonomous agent system to a test bed, modelling a simplified firm, is proposed.
Forecasting Adverse Weather Situations in the Road Network
2016
Weather is an important factor that affects traffic flow and road safety. Adverse weather situations affect the driving conditions directly; hence, drivers must be informed about the weather conditions downstream to adapt their driving. In the framework of intelligent transport systems, several systems have been developed to know the weather situations and inform drivers. However, these systems do not forecast weather in advance, and they need the support of road operators to inform drivers. This paper presents a new autonomous system to forecast weather conditions in a short time and to give users the information obtained. The system uses a set of algorithms and rules to determine the weat…
A Planning and Control System for Self-Driving Racing Vehicles
2018
Autonomous robots will soon enter our everyday life as self-driving cars. These vehicles are designed to behave according to certain sets of cooperative rules, such as traffic ones, and to respond to events that might be unpredictable in their occurrence but predictable in their nature, such as a pedestrian suddenly crossing a street, or another car losing control. As civilian autonomous cars will cross the road, racing autonomous cars are under development, which will require superior Artificial Intelligence Drivers to perform in structured but uncertain conditions. We describe some preliminary results obtained during the development of a planning and control system as key elements of an A…
Experiments on Concurrent Artificial Environment
2001
We show how the simulation of concurrent system is of interest for both behavioral studies and strategies of learning applied on prey-predator problems. In our case learning studies into unknown environment have been applied to mobile units by using genetic algorithms (GA). A set of trajectories, generated by GA, are able to build a description of the external scene driving a predators to a prey. Here, an example of prey-predator strategy, based on field of forces, is proposed. The evolution of the corespondent system can be formalized as an optimization problem and, for that purpose, GA can be use to give the right solution at this problem. This approach could be applied to the autonomous r…
Porównanie postaw i poglądów przedstawicieli władz miejskich w Ołomuńcu i Opolu
2019
