On Leonov’s method for computing the linearization of the transverse dynamics and analysis of Zhukovsky stability
2019
The paper focuses on a comprehensive discussion of G. A. Leonov’s results aimed at analyzing the Zhukovsky stability of a solution to a nonlinear autonomous system by linearization. The main contribution is deriving the linear system that approximates dynamics of the original nonlinear systems transverse to the vector-flow on a nominal behavior. As illustrated, such a linear comparison system becomes instrumental in the analysis and re-design of classical feedback controllers developed previously for the stabilization of motions of nonlinear mechanical systems.
Interpretable Option Discovery Using Deep Q-Learning and Variational Autoencoders
2021
Deep Reinforcement Learning (RL) is unquestionably a robust framework to train autonomous agents in a wide variety of disciplines. However, traditional deep and shallow model-free RL algorithms suffer from low sample efficiency and inadequate generalization for sparse state spaces. The options framework with temporal abstractions [18] is perhaps the most promising method to solve these problems, but it still has noticeable shortcomings. It only guarantees local convergence, and it is challenging to automate initiation and termination conditions, which in practice are commonly hand-crafted.
Development of a Simulator for Prototyping Reinforcement Learning-Based Autonomous Cars
2022
Autonomous driving is a research field that has received attention in recent years, with increasing applications of reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms. It is impractical to train an autonomous vehicle thoroughly in the physical space, i.e., the so-called ’real world’; therefore, simulators are used in almost all training of autonomous driving algorithms. There are numerous autonomous driving simulators, very few of which are specifically targeted at RL. RL-based cars are challenging due to the variety of reward functions available. There is a lack of simulators addressing many central RL research tasks within autonomous driving, such as scene understanding, localization and mapping, pla…
Building Worlds Together with Sound and Music : Imagination as an Active Engagement between Ourselves
2019
By conforming to the enactive approach to human cognition, and by adopting the Tia DeNora’s concept of human–music interaction as an “in-action” perspective, Kai Tuuri and Henna-Riikka Peltola explore socially extended imagining with sounds and music. This is done through a question of how “shared places” of imagining with sound are established and maintained. Defining the activity of imagining as an essentially dynamic and generative process that takes place in a social reality, the authors propose that the processes of imagining are not only individual but also become exhibited and jointly engaged in social dialogues as well. By first discussing the theoretical foundations of this shared …
Enabling robotic adaptive behaviour capabilities for new industry 4.0 automated quality inspection paradigms
2020
The seamless integration of industrial robotic arms with server computers, sensors and actuators can revolutionise the way in which automated non-destructive testing (NDT) is performed and conceived. Achieving effective integration and realising the full potential of robotic systems presents significant challenges, since robots, sensors and end-effector tools are often not necessarily designed to be put together and form a holistic system. This paper presents recent breakthroughs, opening up new scenarios for the inspection of product quality in advanced manufacturing. Many years of research have brought to software platforms the ability to integrate external data acquisition instrumentatio…
FisioCovid
2021
[EN] In the study plans of the first years of the degrees in Health Sciences it is usual to include basic and general subjects that are not very motivating for students with a more specific academic profile. Specifically, in the Degree in Optics and Optometry at the University of Valencia we encountered this problem when teaching General Physiology, a subject included within the Human and Ocular Physiology subject in the first year. Based on this background, we have considered developing the “FisioCovid” project as a pedagogical tool due to its condition of general interest to the population. The objective of this teaching innovation project is is to take advantage of the media and scientif…
Innowacyjne rozwiązania w logistyce transportu
2016
The article discusses the main issues of innovative solutions for transportation, which affect the maximization of companies’ profits. The article pointed out the multitude of technological advances that due to its scope will cover all modes of transport. The author tried to show the most interesting, sometimes even futuristic solutions, which today’s realization is impossible, but in the near future they might contribute to revolutionization of the transportation market.
Massive Open Online Courses for IFRS Education: A Point of view of Spanish Accounting Educators
2016
Abstract This paper is based on a survey of 103 accounting educators from different universities of Spain on the use of MOOC, especially as regards teaching IFRS. The results show significant differences in three areas of opinion: i) the importance of the use of Internet and some Web tools for academic use; ii) general knowledge and perception of MOOCs; and iii) the opinions regarding the interest of MOOCs on IFRS. The overall opinion of educators is positive because, although the majority has never taught or participated in a MOOC, over 80% consider it useful in the learning process. Flexibility is considered the main advantage of MOOCs as well as its valuable potential for autonomous lear…
Nova metodologia d'aprenentatge autònom aplicada a una pràctica d'Enginyeria Química mitjançant tècniques de recerca-acció
2014
Stabilization Effects of Dichotomous Noise on the Lifetime of theSuperconducting State in a Long Josephson Junction
2015
We investigate the superconducting lifetime of a long overdamped current-biased Josephson junction, in the presence of telegraph noise sources. The analysis is performed by randomly choosing the initial condition for the noise source. However, in order to investigate how the initial value of the dichotomous noise affects the phase dynamics, we extend our analysis using two different fixed initial values for the source of random fluctuations. In our study, the phase dynamics of the Josephson junction is analyzed as a function of the noise signal intensity, for different values of the parameters of the system and external driving currents. We find that the mean lifetime of the superconductive…
