Abstract A flow-injection (FI) spectrophotometric system is proposed for the determination of phenols and carbamates. In the FI manifolds, the solutions of phenols or carbamates (the latter after hydrolysis with NaOH) were injected into a diazonium ion carrier stream at pH 9.5 (buffered with tetrahydroborate), which was formed by mixing 2,4,6-trimethylaniline (TMA) with nitrate in a sodium dodecyl sulfate aqueous micellar medium. Abstract In the present work we set out to apply pharmacodynamic concepts derived from dose–response curves (Potency and Efficacy) to characterize the gene transfer efficiency of a vector:DNA complex. We employed two widely used vectors, the cationic lipid DOTAP (N,N,N-trimethyl 1-2-3-bis (1-oxo-9-octa-decenyl)oxy-(Z,Z)-1-propanaminium methyl sulfate) and the cationic polymer PEI (polyethylenimine, 800 kDa) to transfect several constructions of the green fluorescent protein cDNA. Specifically, the anionic-cationic surfactant pair assumes a double-tailed zwitterionic behavior. The ability to obtain iron of 14 isolates of Vibrio damsela with different degrees of virulence for mice and turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) has been evaluated in artificial and natural iron-restricted environments. All strains were capable of utilizing haemoglobin (Hb) and ferric ammonium citrate (FAC) as the sole iron sources in vitro. However, only virulent V. damsela strains were able to resist the bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects of human and turbot sera, their growth being enhanced by the addition of Hb and FAC. The retention behaviour of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) using micellar mobile phases of sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) is studied and compared with that observed with micellar mobile phases of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). A liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of acemetacin, diclofenac, indomethacin, ketoprofen, naproxen and tolmetin in pharmaceutical preparations is described. The proposed system uses a Kromasil C18 analytical column and a solution of 0.15 M SDS at pH 3 with 10% 1-propanol as mobile phase. The reaction of 3-aminopropylamide of cholic acid with CS2 produced a bile acid derivative of dithiocarbamic acid which further formed an ammonium salt with another molecule of 3-aminopropylamide of cholic acid. The cationic 3-ammonium propylamide of cholic acid did not react further with CS2 and the formed salt was stable in the reaction mixture, even when excess CS2 was used. When the reaction was carried out in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide, only the bile acid derivative of sodium dithiocarbamate was formed. The dithiocarbamate derivatives were characterized by 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy and ESI-TOF mass spectrometry.

In rat aorta, depletion of internal Ca2+ stores by addition of noradrenaline (1 microM) induces a biphasic response (an initial phasic response and a tonic one) mediated by two different intracellular Ca2+ pools. This response cannot be repeated, suggesting a depletion of internal Ca2+ stores sensitive to noradrenaline. In absence of the agonist, this depletion is the signal for the entry of extracellular Ca2+, not only to refill the stores but also, under our experimental conditions, to activate the contractile proteins thus inducing an increase in the resting tone (IRT) that constitutes functional evidence of this Ca2+ entry.
