Noise-assisted persistence and recovery of memory state in a memristive spiking neuromorphic network

Abstract We investigate the constructive role of an external noise signal, in the form of a low-rate Poisson sequence of pulses supplied to all inputs of a spiking neural network, consisting in maintaining for a long time or even recovering a memory trace (engram) of the image without its direct renewal (or rewriting). In particular, this unique dynamic property is demonstrated in a single-layer spiking neural network consisting of simple integrate-and-fire neurons and memristive synaptic weights. The stochastic limit in the analysis of the open BCS model

In this paper we show how the perturbative procedure known as {\em stochastic limit} may be useful in the analysis of the Open BCS model discussed by Buffet and Martin as a spin system interacting with a fermionic reservoir. In particular we show how the same values of the critical temperature and of the order parameters can be found with a significantly simpler approach.
More wavelet-like orthonormal bases for the lowest Landau level: Some considerations

In a previous work, Antoine and I (1994) have discussed a general procedure which 'projects' arbitrary orthonormal bases of L2(R) into orthonormal bases of the lowest Landau level. In this paper, we apply this procedure to a certain number of examples, with particular attention to the spline bases. We also discuss Haar, Littlewood-Paley and Journe bases.

Thermal inactivation kinetics of Bacillus stearothermophilus spores using a linear temperature program.

A systematic study of the inactivation kinetics of Bacillus stearothermophilus spores was carried out in nonisothermic heating conditions using a linear temperature increase program and analyzing the experimental data by means of a one-step nonlinear regression. The D and z values estimated are close to those obtained in isothermic conditions and estimated by using a two-step model, first D values are calculated, and then in the second step a z value is deduced (D(121 degrees C) = 3.08 and 4.38 min, respectively, and z = 7 and 7.9 degrees C, respectively). On the dynamical stability of negative conductance free running oscillators

For a class of weakly nonlinear autonomous systems exhibiting both resistive and reactive nonlinearities, asymptotic orbital stability is investigated through a new narrow-band differential approach. The main result is the derivation of the exact characteristic polynomial associated with the local dynamics of the amplitude and phase of the free-running oscillation to be tested. Soil moisture (SM) is a key state variable of the hydrological cycle, needed to monitor the effects of a changing climate on natural resources. Soil moisture is highly variable in space and time, presenting seasonalities, anomalies and long-term trends, but also, and important nonlinear behaviours. Here, we introduce a novel fast and nonlinear complex PCA method to analyze the spatio-temporal patterns of the Earth's surface SM. Non-linear systems under impulsive parametric input

In this paper the problem of the response of non-linear systems excited by an impulsive parametric input is treated. For such systems the response exhibits a jump depending on the amplitude of the impulse as well as on the value of the state variables immediately before the impulse occurrence. Recently, the jump prediction has been obtained in a series form. Here the incremental rule for any scalar real valued function is obtained in an analytical form involving the jump of the state variables. It is also shown that the formulation for the jump evaluation is also able to give a new step-by-step integration technique.
State Estimation of a Nonlinear Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Model using an Extended Kalman Filter

An Extended Kalman Filter is designed in order to estimate both state variables and wind velocity vector at the same time for a non conventional unmanned aircraft. The proposed observer uses few measurements, obtained by means of either conventional simple air data sensors or a low cost GPS. To cope with the low rate of the GPS with respect to the other sensors, the EKF algorithm has been modified to allow for a dual rate measurement model. State propagation is obtained by means of an accurate six degrees of freedom nonlinear model of the aircraft dynamics.
