An in vitro evaluation of the effects of desensitizing agents on microleakage of Class V cavities
2016
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a desensitizing agent on microleakage of Class V cavities. Material and Methods 72 premolar teeth were used. There were 6 groups. Class V restorations were prepared with two different restorative materials (Equia fil, GC, America and Grandio, VOCO, Germany) and two adhesive systems (Clearfil SE Bond, Kuraray, Japan and S3 Bond Plus, Kuraray, Japan) with and without desensitizing agent (Gluma Desensitizer, Heraeus Kulzer, Germany). Restorations were polished with aluminum oxide abrasive discs. Then a range of 5 - 55C thermocycling was performed 10.000 times. The microleakage of restorations was examined with dye penetration metho…
Intravenous Use of Methadone: Efficacy and Safety
2013
Parenteral methadone could be helpful in specific conditions, particularly in unstable conditions of when the oral route is unavailable. Intravenous methadone should be the preferred parenteral route, due to concerns about the local toxicity of subcutaneous route. This chapter assesses aspects regarding the pharmacokinetic issues, the clinical use, the problems associated with the use of intravenous methadone for chronic pain, as well as the perioperative use of intravenous methadone.
Transitions from grid-connected to island operation of Smart Microgrids
2019
In this paper a control methodology is presented to perform a bumpless transition from the on-grid to the offgrid of a smart microgrid. The derived controller manages the internal production in order to get to zero the tie-line active and reactive power flows so that the opening of the tie line breaker does not produce significant perturbations. Experimental tests performed on the microgrid built at the Polytechnic University of Bari demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
An Ontology Model for Interoperability and Multi-organization Data Exchange
2020
Progress in the uptake and use of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things seems to be stalled by the colossal fragmentation of information and data standards. This complexity is compounded by issues of inter-organisational differences, hindering effective collaboration. There is a growing demand for cross-organizational integrations in regulated but decentralized environments. This paper introduces an ontology architecture where information is sliced into independent semantic layers, each focusing on a specific aspect of the data. By dissolving traditional monolithic data structures into layered, light semantic components, the necessity to maintain contextual…
The M/G/1/1 queue with repeated attempts and different types of feedback effects
1985
Queueing systems with repeated attempts have wide practical use in designing switching networks and computer systems. The model presented in this paper not only takes into account repetitions by congestion but also considers the feedback effects from all types of failures in establishing a connection. A semi-regenerative analysis is applied in order to determine the characteristics of the underlying queueing process.
CMOS Capacitance-to-Time Converter-Based Interface for Differential Capacitive Sensors
2020
This paper presents pre-layout simulation results on a CMOS implementation of a capacitance-to-time converter-based electronic interface for differential capacitive sensors. Its simple architecture, comprising only three operational amplifiers (OA) and a digital mixer (inverted XOR gate) allows, by properly setting the values of seven biasing resistors, to fit the working range anywhere from few fF to hundreds of pF, giving the output quasi-digital signals (T and PW) in the useful μs-ms range (appropriate for direct interfacing with general purposes microcontrollers). A couple of illustrative examples are provided.
Context Comparison for Object Fusion
2003
We propose a solution to help the integration of heterogeneous sources based on the fusion of objects according to their context. New requirements for information exchange have emerged with all the developments around Internet. Information consumers want to access and combine data from remote and heterogeneous sources in a transparent and dynamic way. To achieve this level of interoperation is yet a real challenge. We present a model to define local data as informative objects with a contextual representation associated to them. A semantic context comparison mechanism, based on a semantic distance, reconciles context of applications and constructs virtual objects in which rules make the fus…
LifeRescue: A web based application for emergency responders during fire emergency response
2016
In order to respond to any kind of building fire emergencies, first-responders have to use lot of time to get access to the emergency data such as location of the victims who are still inside the building, location of the hazardous material, location of the resources and location of the exits in order to perform search and rescue. However, search is possibly one of the most dangerous activities on the fire ground. Sometimes the visibility is zero and the environment is really hot. Because of the limited operating time in the building, the key to successful search is how quickly emergency responders can get access to the emergency related information in order to save victims and the property…
Novel constant current driver for ISFET/MEMFETs characterization
2001
Abstract In the present work a new constant current driver for ISFETs and MEMFETs sensors has been developed. The proposed circuit maintains the ISFET/MEMFET operation point at constant drain–source current and voltage. The combination of some programmable current sources and an appropriate selection of a simple precision resistor allow a good ISFET/MEMFET polarization. The use of operational amplifiers with low offset and drift are required to provide the buffering function needed by the sensor.
The Computer Control Software for MAMI
1980
The computer control system of the Mainz Microtron is designed to keep track with the modular and step-by-step construction of the three accelerator stages. The system is up to now based on two loosely coupled HP1000 minicomputers, interfaced via CAMAC to the accelerator components and to the operator desk. The control software is divided into several layers of portable processes distributed to both computers. Communication between the processes, access to the data bank and the routing of CAMAC interrupts are handled via a message system which operates with symbolic addresses.
