Chorioretinopathia serosa centralis (CSC) und Kortikosteroide
2008
Background Corticosteroids are under suspicion of playing an important role in the development of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Patients and methods In a prospective study the course of CSC was evaluated in a consecutive series of 46 patients, who received the diagnosis of CSC in the period 4 / 2004 - 12 / 2005. Data analysis was focused on the complete medical and ocular history and the ocular course of this disease. Results 27 patients had been taking exogenous corticosteroids (oral, intravenous, inhalative, cutaneous and intraarticular) within 4 weeks before onset of symptoms. Additionally, one case with Cushing's disease and 2 pregnant women were included. These 30 / 46 patien…
Transpupillare Thermotherapie (TTT) zur Behandlung von Aderhautmetastasen
2001

Seasonal Variations on the Cortisol Concentration of the Subretinal Fluid in Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment
1981
Probes of the subretinal fluid were obtained from 115 nonselected retinal detachments, operated on during the period from November 19, 1973 to December 20, 1974. All patients had no known endocrine abnormalities and had not ever received topical or systemic corticosteroid therapy. Subretinal fluid Cortisol was determined by competitive protein binding analysis. A statistically significant increase in mean subretinal fluid Cortisol concentration was found for the winter season (3.3 µg/100 ml), as compared with the summer months (1.5 µg/100 ml). This finding sharply contrasts with the seasonal incidence of the idiopathic retinal detachments which reaches its maximum in the months June to Augu…
VI: Konfidenzintervalle - die Alternative zum p-Wert
2003
Confidence intervals combine the ideas of clinical relevance and statistical significance by using one instructive expression, which enables remarkable reduction of table structures and result sections in scientific publications. Confidence interval based conclusions can be transferred from a clinical trial to its underlying study population with respect to a residual statistical error probability, i.e. the significance concept is retained. However, their presentation using the original unit of the clinical endpoint under consideration allows for immediate interpretation of the results' clinical impact. For example, the comparison of two therapy groups based on a binary endpoint becomes fea…

Vision-related function in the COPERNICUS and GALILEO trials
2014
Purpose To examine the impact of intravitreal aflibercept (IVT-AFL) injection on the 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI VFQ) in the COPERNICUS and GALILEO trials. Methods Patients (pts) with macular oedema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion received IVT-AFL 2 mg (IVT-AFL 2q4) or sham monthly for 24 weeks. After Week 24 (W24) in COPERNICUS all pts were eligible to receive IVT-AFL based on visual and anatomical outcomes (IVT-AFL 2q4+PRN, sham+IVT-AFL PRN). In GALILEO, sham-treated pts received sham tx until W52. The NEI VFQ was administered at baseline (BL), W24 and W52. Total and subscale scores were compared between groups. W24 data were integrated an…
