Effect of annealing temperature on persistent luminescence of Y3Al2Ga3O12:Cr3+ co-doped with Ce3+ and Pr3+

2021

Abstract Y3(Al,Ga)5O12 (YAGG) materials doped with Ce3+, Cr3+ and Pr3+ were synthesized by using a modified Pechini method and subsequently annealed in air at selected temperatures between 900 and 1500 °C. According to X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses, the particles and size distributions become large and broad, respectively, due to sintering and agglomeration at high annealing temperatures. Based on infrared (FTIR) spectra and calculation of multi-phonon de-excitation probabilities, the high energy O–H vibrations are not causing significant multi-phonon de-excitation of the emitting 5d level of Ce3+ if the annealing temperature is above 90…

Long-period grating assisted fractional differentiation of highly chirped light pulses

2016

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to perform a fractional differentiation of arbitrary order on a given light pulse by propagation through a single long-period grating. A simple analytical expression is obtained also, relating the fractional order of differentiation with the parameters of the long-period grating. A secant hyperbolic like pulse of 23 ps time width with a chirp parameter of -30 was successfully fractionally differentiated to the 0.5th order. The proposal was corroborated experimentally and numerically. The device may find applications in real time phase recovery. Fil: Poveda Wong, L.. Universidad de Valencia; España Fil: Carrascosa, A.. Interplay of Chiral Side Chains and Helical Main Chains in Polyisocyanates

1996

Here we describe the synthesis of seven new copolymer series prepared by copolymerization of hexyl isocyanate with seven new chiral azo chromophores with an isocyano functionality. The resulting copolyisocyanates (Nylon 1) possess a helical polymer conformation. In the cases in which the chiral group and polymer chain are linked to the same phenyl ring (copolymer series VI-IX) a transfer of chirality to the polymer chain is possible. I.e. one helical twist sense is preferred in this case. By variation of the chiral center, polymers with preferable right- or left-handed helical conformation are accessible. The photochemical isomerization of the azo chromophore (trans → cis) is possible in hi…

Halloysite nanotubes-carbon dots hybrids multifunctional nanocarrier with positive cell target ability as a potential non-viral vector for oral gene …

2019

Abstract Hypothesis The use of non-viral vectors for gene therapy is hindered by their lower transfection efficiency and their lacking of self-track ability. Experiments This study aims to investigate the biological properties of halloysite nanotubes-carbon dots hybrid and its potential use as non-viral vector for oral gene therapy. The morphology and the chemical composition of the halloysite hybrid were investigated by means of high angle annular dark field scanning TEM and electron energy loss spectroscopy techniques, respectively. The cytotoxicity and the antioxidant activity were investigated by standard methods (MTS, DPPH and H2O2, respectively) using human cervical cancer HeLa cells …

Confinement of chiral molecules in reverse micelles: FT-IR, polarimetric and VCD investigation on the state of dimethyl tartrate in sodium bis(2-ethy…

2008

Abstract The state of d and l -dimethyl tartrate confined within dry sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) reverse micelles dispersed in CCl 4 has been investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy, polarimetry, and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD). Measurements have been performed at 25 °C as a function of the solubilizate-to-surfactant molar ratio ( R ) at a fixed AOT concentration (0.158 M). The analysis of experimental data is consistent with the hypothesis that both enantiomers of dimethyl tartrate are mainly entrapped in the reverse micelles and located in proximity to the surfactant head-group region. The formation of this interesting self-organized chiral nanostructure involves som…

Element-specific magnetic properties of Co2(Mn1−xFex)Si films probed by x-ray magnetic circular/linear dichroism

2011

Element-specific magnetic properties of epitaxial Co${}_{2}$Fe${}_{x}$Mn${}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}$Si/MgO(100) Heusler films prepared by laser ablation are measured by circular dichroism in x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XMCD). Surface and bulk magnetization of the 100-nm-thick films are equal as tested by comparing the total electron yield and transmission measurements and follow the generalized Slater-Pauling rule. For Co${}_{2}$FeSi, the large magnetization of 6 ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{B}$ per formula unit indicates half-metallic behavior. Calculations using the local spin density approximation (LDA) result in a half-metallic band structure for this compound when an additional electron-electron…

Quantitative microscopy of magnetic domains in Fe(100) by core-level x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

2005

We present an experimental technique for imaging of magnetic domain patterns based on element-specific core-level photoemission using polarized soft-x-ray radiation. It is applied to the measurement of domain patterns at the Fe(100) surface and at the surface of polycrystalline Fe. Different from well established imaging techniques that use a photoemission electron microscope to measure the secondary electron intensity at the Fe absorption threshold, we have investigated the photoemission intensity contrast on the the Fe $2{p}_{3∕2}$ core level using circularly polarized x-ray light. The linear and circular dichroism characteristics of the identical domain pattern are extracted by linear co…

Exchange coupling in the correlated electronic states of amorphous GdFe films

2013

The bulk sensitivity of hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in combination with circularly polarized radiation of the P09 beamline at PETRA III enables the investigation of the magnetic properties of capped films. We have determined the temperature dependence of the magnetic circular dichroism in the Fe 2$p$ and in the Gd 3$d$ states in amorphous GdFe films. The magnetic dichroism reflects the stronger temperature dependence of Gd moments compared to Fe moments in agreement with mean-field models. We resolved the exchange split Gd 3${d}_{5/2}$ substates and found a significant temperature dependence of the splitting which is attributed to a temperature dependent part of the exchange energ…
