MuPix7 - A fast monolithic HV-CMOS pixel chip for Mu3e

2016

The MuPix7 chip is a monolithic HV-CMOS pixel chip, thinned down to 50 \mu m. It provides continuous self-triggered, non-shuttered readout at rates up to 30 Mhits/chip of 3x3 mm^2 active area and a pixel size of 103x80 \mu m^2. The hit efficiency depends on the chosen working point. Settings with a power consumption of 300 mW/cm^2 allow for a hit efficiency >99.5%. A time resolution of 14.2 ns (Gaussian sigma) is achieved. Latest results from 2016 test beam campaigns are shown.

Excitation power dependence of the Purcell effect in photonic crystal microcavity lasers with quantum wires

2013

The Purcell effect dependence on the excitation power is studied in photonic crystal microcavity lasers embedding InAs/InP quantum wires. In the case of non-lasing modes, the Purcell effect has low dependence on the optical pumping, attributable to an exciton dynamics combining free and localized excitons. In the case of lasing modes, the influence of the stimulated emission makes ambiguous the determination of the Purcell factor. We have found that this ambiguity can be avoided by measuring the dependence of the decay time on the excitation power. These results provide insights in the determination of the Purcell factor in microcavity lasers. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

Acousto-optical multiple interference switches

2007

The authors introduce an alternative approach for acousto-optical light control based on the interference of light propagating through several waveguides, each subjected to a periodic refractive index modulation induced by a surface acoustic wave. The feasibility of the concept is demonstrated by the realization of an optical switch for arbitrary time intervals with an on/off contrast ratio of 20.

Coherence functions of the electrical and the optical noises in monomodal packaged vertical cavity surface emitting lasers

2006

Calculations of the frequency noise spectra and of the coherence functions between the electrical and the optical noises for a single-mode packaged vertical surface emitting laser (VCSEL) are reported.A rate-equation model for an index guided VCSEL is used, implemented with the electrical noise model including the intrinsic device, the package and external bias network. The extended model works up to the laser relaxation frequency. The amplitude optical noise and its correlation with the frequency and electrical noises are also analysed. The influence on the calculated quantities of some electrical and laser parameters is evaluated. The results show that generally the frequency noise is corr…

Semitoroidal detector configuration for large (well-type) Ge(Li) detectors

1972

Abstract A “semitoroidal” detector configuration intended for making large Ge(Li) detectors with approximately homogeneous electric fields is described in detail. Test measurements have been carried out with a relatively small semitoroidal detector. The performance of the semitoroidal detector having a volume of more than 150 cm 3 is discussed.

Improving the performance of CdZnTe detectors using infrared stimulation

2011

The influence of monochromatic optical stimulation with wavelengths from 400 nm to 1100 on characteristics of the CdZnTe quasi-hemispherical detectors was studied. It was found that illumination with infrared (IR) light of wavelengths (870–900 nm) close to the absorption edge of the CdZnTe significantly improves the detectors performance at room temperature. Improvement can be achieved with low-intensity IR illumination of about 1–10 µW. The higher intensity illumination leads to degradation of the detector spectrometric characteristics. Infrared radiation penetrates into the detector sensitive volume, change the balance equilibrium between free and trapped carriers, leading to improve char…

Evaluation of a Commercial PhotoDiode Array for Radiation Detectors Readout

2011

The aim of the present work is the characterization of the new S8866-128-02 PhotoDiode (PD) array from Hamamatsu Photonics. This work includes the implementation of a readout system as well as electronic noise estimation in PDs under several conditions varying integration times and clock frequencies.

Achromatic fan-out diffractive system for white-light free-space optical interconnects

2001

Abstract A simple and versatile white-light fan-out diffractive system based on the achromatization of the fractional Talbot effect is proposed. This achromatic configuration is able to interconnect a single polychromatic point source with a 2-D array of optoelectronic microdevices with low residual chromatic aberration even for white light. The whole broadband beamsplitter system is formed by two simple diffractive optical elements, a periodic diffractive lenslet array and a diffractive lens, that are made with a direct laser writing technique giving high light efficiency. The focal amplitude distribution corresponding to the lenslet array produces, by free-space propagation, self-replicas…

Fabrication of $^{15}\textrm{NV}^{-}$ centers in diamond using a deterministic single ion implanter

2021

Nitrogen Vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are a platform for several important quantum technologies, including sensing, communication and elementary quantum processors. In this letter we demonstrate the creation of NV centers by implantation using a deterministic single ion source. For this we sympathetically laser-cool single $^{15}\textrm{N}_2^+$ molecular ions in a Paul trap and extract them at an energy of 5.9\,keV. Subsequently the ions are focused with a lateral resolution of 121(35)\,nm and are implanted into a diamond substrate without any spatial filtering by apertures or masks. After high-temperature annealing, we detect the NV centers in a confocal microscope and determine a conve…

Field-free molecular orientation by THz laser pulses at high temperature

2012

We investigate to which extend a THz laser pulse can be used to produce field-free molecular orientation at high temperature. We consider laser pulses that can be implemented with the state of the art technology and we show that the efficiency of the control scheme crucially depends on the parameters of the molecule. We analyze the temperature effects on molecular dynamics and we demonstrate that, for some molecules, a noticeable orientation can be achieved at high temperature.
