The aim of the study was to identify trends in presentation of GO to tertiary centres and initial management over time.METHODS: Prospective observational study of European Group On Graves' Orbitopathy (EUGOGO) centres. All new referrals with a diagnosis of GO over a 4-month period in 2012 were included. Risk factors for high myopia: a 22‐year follow‐up study from childhood to adulthood

PURPOSE To determine the effect of the definition of high myopia on its prevalence and risk factors for high myopia. METHODS A total of 240 myopic schoolchildren (119 boys and 121 girls) at the mean age of 10.9 years (range 8.8-12.8 years) were recruited to a randomized clinical trial of myopia treatment among children from 3rd- and 5th grades of school referred for an eye examination due to poor distant vision and having no previous spectacles. Five-year functional outcomes and vault of -20 diopter myopic phakic intraocular lens implantation.

Purpose To evaluate refractive and visual outcomes and complications associated with phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation to correct high myopia. Settings Fernandez-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Oviedo, Spain. Design Retrospective observational case series. Methods Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), refraction, vault, and adverse effects were evaluated after 5 years with Visian ICMV4 pIOL. PURPOSE To evaluate the clinical impact and possible causes of a spontaneous decentration of a phakic refractive lens (PRL) implanted in a highly myopic eye, and analyzing the visual, refractive, and aberrometric outcome as well as the possible causes for this phenomenon. Crystalens HD Intraocular Lens Analysis Using an Adaptive Optics Visual Simulator

PURPOSE To compare visual and optical quality of the Crystalens HD intraocular lens (IOL) with that of a monofocal IOL. METHODS The wavefront aberration patterns of the monocular Akreos Adapt AO IOL and the single-optic accommodating Crystalens HD IOL were measured in a model eye. The Crystalens IOL was measured in its nonaccommodative state and then, after flexing the haptic to produce 1.4 mm of movement, in its accommodative state. Some physiological and psychological characteristics of myopic and non-myopic young men.

As a part of a research project on the health and functional capacity of men at different ages a comparison of selected physiological and psychological characteristics of myopic and non-myopic 31–35 year-old men was made. The random sample studied consisted of 31 myopic and 100 non-myopic men. It was found that the body mass index and fat content were lower among the myopic than among the non-myopic. No significant differences were found in the elastic properties of skin, in blood pressure or in haematological assays studied between the groups. Nine Loci for Ocular Axial Length Identified through Genome-wide Association Studies, Including Shared Loci with Refractive Error

Refractive errors are common eye disorders of public health importance worldwide. Ocular axial length (AL) is the major determinant of refraction and thus of myopia and hyperopia. We conducted a meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies for AL, combining 12,531 Europeans and 8,216 Asians. We identified eight genome-wide significant loci for AL (RSPO1, C3orf26, LAMA2, GJD2, ZNRF3, CD55, MIP, and ALPPL2) and confirmed one previously reported AL locus (ZC3H11B). Of the nine loci, five (LAMA2, GJD2, CD55, ALPPL2, and ZC3H11B) were associated with refraction in 18 independent cohorts (n = 23,591). An alternative clinical routine for subjective refraction based on power vectors with trial frames.

PURPOSE Subjective refraction determines the final point of refractive error assessment in most clinical environments and its foundations have remained unchanged for decades.
