Boron periodination of o-carborane has been achieved by taking account of the fact that B atoms in the cluster are of two types, i.e., those adjacent to both C atoms and the remainder. The high number of nonequivalent leaving groups opens the possibility through B-C coupling to materials with novel possibilities and to self-assembling due to the enhanced polarizability of the C-H bond. Periodination has accentuated the acidity of the carborane, and monoprotic salts are stable in water.
The Role of C–H···H–B Interactions in Establishing Rotamer Configurations in Metallabis(dicarbollide) Systems

The aim of this work is to explore the self-interaction capability of the anion [3,3′-Co(1,2-C2B9H11)2]– through Ccluster–H···H–B (Cc–H···H–B) dihydrogen bonds. A set of theoretical and empirical data aiming to establish the main rules that account for the binding mode between the negatively charged borane framework made by [3,3′-Co(1,2-C2B9H11)2]– and the [NMe4]+ ions have been compiled. The interaction between cation and anion is mainly electrostatic but the covalent contribution is also proven and quantified. Olfactory receptors (ORs) are the largest member of the G-protein-coupled receptors which mediate early olfactory perception in discriminating among thousands of odorant molecules. Assigning odorous ligands to ORs is a prerequisite to gaining an understanding of the mechanisms of odorant recognition. The functional expression of ORs represents a critical step in addressing this issue. Due to limitations in heterologous expression, very few mammal ORs have been characterized, and so far only one is from human origin. Gabriella De Marco propone una riflessione sul genere a partire da alcuni manuali adottati in Italia, dalla metà degli anni settanta del Novecento, nelle scuole e all’Università. In particolare, ha preso in considerazione alcuni volumi di autori italiani e stranieri pubblicati tra il 1970 ed il 2016. Il saggio affronta le trasformazioni sociali, economiche e politiche dell'Italia durante il boom economico, detto la Grande Trasformazione, attraverso il punto di vista degli intellettuali. il soggetto rientra in quel complesso rapporto tra intellettuali e società che contraddistingue il Secolo Breve. Il gramscianesimo, riviste come il Politecnico, e poi le figure di Garin, Pasolini, Bobbio sono al centro del presente lavoro costatando, infine, come chiosa Aurelio Lepre che probabilmente "la fine del mondo contadino dispiacque più agli intellettuali che ai contadini".

Spurectomy: A novel modification of non-penetrating deep sclerectomy.

To evaluate the outcomes of a novel modification of the non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) approach for glaucoma management called spurectomy.Observational comparative non-randomized retrospective study including 98 glaucomatous eyes of 76 patients operated on with the spurectomy technique consisting of the combination of the excision of the scleral spur with NPDS (groupA). A control group (groupB) including 53 glaucomatous eyes of 43 patients operated on with classical NPDS was also included. Changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) and medications required as well as complications were recorded in a 12-month follow-up.Mean IOP decreased from 25.69±8.11 preoperatively to 15.73±4.16mm Hg …
