What matters more in open access journal publishing : Scientific rigor or financial vigor?

Academics and librarians around the world are raising concern about the current state of scholarly journal publishing in that the majority of journals are under the control of five multinational commercial journal publishing companies. Some are advocating for scholars to take back control of scholarly communication, particularly because it is the academics who are supplying and managing most of the content for journals. Open access publishing is one option, but the question of sustainability in funding streams raises concerns. Also the roles of scholarly societies, academic association, and universities in looking for stability in nonprofit journal publishing are discussed.

The study examines the extent to which the relationship between home and school affects students’ academic achievements. A senior secondary school in The Gambia was chosen for this study. The focus of the research was to identify and describe intentionally designed programs and practices that foster the involvement of home in school activities and its important outcomes for the stakeholders (home and school). This study focuses on Finnish pre-service teachers’ perceptions of their twenty-first century skills, especially their learning strategies, collaboration and teamwork, as well as knowledge and attitudes related to ICT in education. The target group consist of 263 first-year pre-service teachers from three universities. The results outline how pre-service teachers perceive their twenty-first century skills, the relationships between different areas of these skills, and the differences among pre-service teachers in terms of perceived skills. This article uses student feedback to examine the perspective of participants in the short learning programme (SLP) pilot Digitally Competent Educators (DCE). This SLP was targeted at the continuous professional development and lifelong learning for educators at various levels and several education areas. Student feedback was collected in 2020 using anonymous surveys at the end of each course. This implies that respondents were those participants who completed the course. This study examines the relationship of an organization's age and its innovative activity. The innovative activity of an organization is discussed and examined through the concepts of exploration and exploitation, basing on the previous literature on organizational ambidexterity. Three hypotheses on the relationship of aging and the innovative behavior of an organization are formed based on the ambidexterity literature and the theories of the effect of aging on an organization.
