2000
The synthesis, crystal structure, and physical characterization of the coordination compounds [Ni(en)2]4[Fe(CN)5NO]2[Fe(CN)6]x5H2O (1), [Ni(en)2][Fe(CN)5NO]x3H2O (2), [Mn(3-MeOsalen)(H2O)]2[Fe(CN)5NO] (3), and [Mn(5-Brsalen)]2[Fe(CN)5NO] (4) are presented. 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n (a = 7.407(4) A, b = 28.963(6) A, c = 14.744(5) A, alpha = 90 degrees, beta = 103.26(4) degrees, gamma = 90 degrees, Z = 2). Its structure consists of branched linear chains formed by cis-[Ni(en)2]2+ cations and ferrocyanide and nitroprusside anions. The presence of two kinds of iron(II) sites has been demonstrated by Mossbauer spectroscopy. 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group …
Recognition-Directed Supramolecular Assemblies of Metal Complexes of Terpyridine Derived Ligands with Self-Complementary Hydrogen Bonding Sites
2000
The synthesis and X-ray structures of three metal complexes with terpyridine-derived ligands that contain amino-pyrimidine and amino-pyrazine moieties are presented. They have been designed in view of directing their self-assembly into specific supramolecular arrays through molecular recognition interactions. The solid-state structures indeed reveal extensive hydrogen-bonded networks. The Co complex 4a with PF6- counterions builds a two-dimensional infinite interwoven grid through strong double hydrogen bonds (d(N-H-N) =2.918-3.018 A) between the amino groups and the N atoms of the rings, with all H-bonding sites saturated. Changing the anions to BF4- in 4b leads to a similar infinite but p…
Organocyanide coordination chemistry: Syntheses, structural characterisations and magnetic properties of copper (II) complexes with a di-imine/pyridi…
2005
Abstract The reactions between the copper (II) salts [CuXL]PF6 (L: 2,6-[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)ethyl]pyridine) (X = Cl 1, X = Br 2) and LiTCNQ, in a DMF/water mixture, or Et3NH(TCNQ)2, in acetone, produced the new complexes [CuXL(TCNQ)] (X = Cl 3, X = Br 4). For both compounds, crystallographic studies have clearly evidenced the existence of dimeric complexes [{CuClL}(TCNQ)]2 owing to π–π overlap between two adjacent TCNQ − radical anions. Compound 1 reacted with Et4N(C10N7) to afford the mononuclear derivative [CuClL(C10N7)] (5), while its reaction with K2C10N6 produced the dinuclear complex [(CuClL)2(C10N6)] (6). The crystal structures of complexes 5 and 6 have been determined by X…
Synthesis of a tetradentate piperazine ligand and a structural study of its coordination compounds
1999
Abstract A tetradentate ligand N,N′-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)piperazine (L1) and seven structures of its transition metal coordination compounds are described. Most of the compounds are of the general formula [M(L1)(NO3)2], with M=Cu2+, Co2+, Mn2+and Cd2+. In addition, a dimeric copper(II) compound, [Cu2(L1)(Ac)4](H2O)3, and polymeric silver(I) compounds, [Ag(L1)]n(NO3)n(EtOH)n and [Ag(L1)]n(SO3CF3)n, were formed. The overall structure of L1 in the metal complexes A–G varies with the size and electronic properties of the metal ions. Mononuclear complex A is a five-coordinated, B is a six-coordinated, and C and D are eight-coordinated metal complexes. The dinuclear Cu complex, E, is four-coordina…

Tritopic phenanthroline and pyridine tail-tied aza-scorpiands
2010
The synthesis of two new tritopic double-scorpiand receptors in which two equivalent 5-(2-aminoethyl)-2,5,8-triaza[9]-(2,6)-pyridinophane moieties have been linked with 2,6-dimethylpyridine (L1) or 2,9-dimethylphenanthroline (L2) units is reported for the first time. Their acid-base behaviour and Zn(2+) coordination chemistry have been studied by pH-metric titrations, molecular dynamic calculations, NMR, UV-Vis and steady-state fluorescence techniques. L1 and L2 behave, respectively, as hexaprotic and heptaprotic bases in the experimental conditions used (298.1 +/- 0.1 K, 0.15 mol dm(-3) NaCl, pH range under study 2.0-11.0). These ligands are able to form mono-, bi- and trinuclear Zn(2+) co…
Oxidative DNA damage of mixed copper(II) complexes with sulfonamides and 1,10-phenanthroline
2003
Abstract Mixed coordination compounds of Cu(II) with sulfonamides and 1,10-phenanthroline as ligands have been prepared and characterised. Single crystal structural determination of the complex [Cu( N -quinolin-8-yl- p -toluenesulfonamidate) 2 (phen)] shows Cu(II) ions are located in a highly distorted octahedral environment, probably as a consequence of the Jahn–Teller effect. The FT-IR and electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra are also discussed. The mixed complexes prepared undergo an extensive DNA cleavage in the presence of ascorbate and hydrogen peroxide. Two of the complexes have higher nucleolytic efficiency than the bis( o -phenanthroline)copper(II) complex.
Copper(ii) and Zn(ii) coordination chemistry of tetraaza[n]cyclophanes
2003
The acid–base behaviour and Zn2+ and Cu2+ metal coordination chemistry of the novel orthocyclophane ligands 2,5,8,11-tetraaza[12]orthocyclophane (L2) and 2,5,9,12-tetraaza[13]orthocyclophane (L3) and metacyclophane 2,5,8,11-tetraaza[12]metacylophane (L1) are studied. Important differences in the chemistry of these compounds are found depending on the substitution of the aromatic ring. The ortho derivatives are much more basic in their first two protonation steps while the metacyclophane presents much larger constants in the third and fourth protonation stages. The crystal structure of the picrate salt of [H2L3]2+ shows an alternate disposition of the protons in the molecule with formation o…
Generation of [2×2] Grid Metallosupramolecular Architectures from Preformed Ditopic Bis(acylhydrazone) Ligands and through Component Self‐Assembly
2007
Ditopic bis(acylhydrazone) ligands, derived from the reactions of carbohydrazides with 2-phenylpyrimidine-4,6-dicarbaldehyde and designed for grid formation with octahedrally coordinating transition-metal ions, exhibit a varied coordination chemistry depending upon the degree of their deprotonation. The neutral acylhydrazones are relatively poor ligands and are seemingly involved in multiple, labile complexation equilibria varying with the solvent and the particular metal salt in solution; nevertheless, grid complexes of different forms can be isolated in the solid state. Although only limited study has been made of the singly deprotonated ligands, grid species appear to be much more readil…
Copper Complexes with Sulfonamides Derivatives of Natural Amino Acids as Chemical Nucleases
2007
Three new coordination compounds have been prepared by reacting copper salts with sulfonamides derived from amino acids. Their molecular structures have been determined with the aid of single crystal X-ray diffraction. The copper cations are four-coordinated in all cases and the local environment is almost planar. Compound [Cu(ts-gly)(NH3)2]·H2O (1) crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/c (no 14) with Z = 4 and with unit cell parameters a = 6.0490(12) A, b = 24.719(5) A, c = 9.159(2) A, α = γ = 90°, and β = 94.69(3)°. Compound [Cu(ts-isoleu)(NH3)2] (2) crystallizes in monoclinic space group C2/c (no 8) with Z = 15 and with unit cell parameters a = 30.800(6) A, b = 6.5510(13) A, c = 15.…
