International audience; Accurate prostate segmentation in Trans Rectal Ultra Sound (TRUS) images is an important step in different clinical applications. However, the development of computer aided automatic prostate segmentation in TRUS images is a challenging task due to low contrast, heterogeneous intensity distribution inside the prostate region, imaging artifacts like shadow, and speckle. Estimation of the elastic parameters of human liver biomechanical models by means of medical images and evolutionary computation.

This paper presents a method to computationally estimate the elastic parameters of two biomechanical models proposed for the human liver. The method is aimed at avoiding the invasive measurement of its mechanical response. The chosen models are a second order Mooney–Rivlin model and an Ogden model. A novel error function, the geometric similarity function (GSF), is formulated using similarity coefficients widely applied in the field of medical imaging (Jaccard coefficient and Hausdorff coefficient). An upper gradient approach to weakly differentiable cochains

Abstract The aim of the present paper is to define a notion of weakly differentiable cochain in the generality of metric measure spaces and to study basic properties of such cochains. Our cochains are (sub)additive functionals on a subspace of chains, and a suitable notion of chains in metric spaces is given by Ambrosio–Kirchheimʼs theory of metric currents. The notion of weak differentiability we introduce is in analogy with Heinonen–Koskelaʼs concept of upper gradients of functions. AbstractWe consider submanifolds of sub-Riemannian Carnot groups with intrinsic $$C^1$$ C 1 regularity ($$C^1_H$$ C H 1 ). Our first main result is an area formula for $$C^1_H$$ C H 1 intrinsic graphs; as an application, we deduce density properties for Hausdorff measures on rectifiable sets. Our second main result is a coarea formula for slicing $$C^1_H$$ C H 1 submanifolds into level sets of a $$C^1_H$$ C H 1 function.

Abstract We study how measures with finite lower density are distributed around ( n − m ) -planes in small balls in R n . We also discuss relations between conical upper density theorems and porosity. Our results may be applied to a large collection of Hausdorff and packing type measures.
Dimension gap under conformal mappings

Abstract We give an estimate for the Hausdorff gauge dimension of the boundary of a simply connected planar domain under p -integrability of the hyperbolic metric, p > 1 . This estimate does not degenerate when p tends to one; for p = 1 the boundary can even have positive area. The same phenomenon is extended to general planar domains in terms of the quasihyperbolic metric. We also give an example which shows that our estimates are essentially sharp.

Abstract The paper discusses the tension which occurred between the notions of set (with measure) and (trial-) sequence (or—to a certain degree—between nondenumerable and denumerable sets) when used in the foundations of probability theory around 1920. The main mathematical point was the logical need for measures in order to describe general nondiscrete distributions, which had been tentatively introduced before (1919) based on von Mises’s notion of the “Kollektiv.” In the background there was a tension between the standpoints of pure mathematics and “real world probability” (in the words of J.L.
