In this prospective study, 82 patients (40 males, 42 females, aged between 15 and 80 years) with benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo (BPPV) were treated with different positioning manoeuvres using video-oculographic control. The maximum age for females and males was 31 and 40 years respectively. After an interview about the special history related to vertigo imbalance symptoms and using video-oculographic control, we diagnosed 79 patients with BPPV of the posterior semicircular canal and 3 of the horizontal semicircular canal. Casteldaccia eye study: prevalence of cataract in the adult and elderly population of a Mediterranean town.

Prevalence of cataract was studied in a population based survey performed in adults aged 40 years or more living in Casteldaccia, a small Sicilian town. Lens opacities of moderate or severe grade (type II or worse, according to the Lens Opacity Classification System II) were found at the following rates: nuclear opalescence in 18.5%, cortical cataract in 12.9%, posterior subcapsular cataract in 10.8%. All these types of cataract were much more frequent in the elderly population and were about 1.5 times more common in women than in men. 1. We have investigated the role of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase IV (PDE IV) in the relaxation of human bronchus and guinea-pig trachea in vitro and in guinea-pigs in vivo. 2. Functional studies showed that the selective PDE IV inhibitors, rolipram and denbufylline, relaxed human and guinea-pig preparations in vitro. 3. Two clinically used xanthine non-selective PDE inhibitors, theophylline and pentoxifylline, were also effective in these preparations, but were much less potent than the selective agents used. 4. Although several studies have assessed core training, specific prescription recommendations remain lacking. The purpose of the present study was to determine the association between the rate of perceived exertion (RPE) and neuromuscular fatigue of the core muscles during the prone bridging endurance test. Fifteen healthy and moderately active subjects participated. Neuromuscular fatigue was assessed with surface electromyography on the rectus abdominis (RA), external oblique, internal oblique, and lumbar erector spinae. The introduction in the past few years of advanced optical coherence tomography (OCT) techniques has greatly increased our understanding of the choroid, which is the most important vascular layer of the eye. Our study aimed to assess choroidal thickness by using swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) in essential hypertensive patients (EHs) with and without early-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD).
