Role of the reagents consumption in the chaotic dynamics of the Belousov-Zhabotitinsky oscillator in closed unstirred reactors

Chemical oscillations generated by the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction in batch unstirred reactors, show a characteristic chaotic transient in their dynamical regime, which is generally found between two periodic regions. Chemical chaos starts and finishes by following a direct and an inverse Ruelle–Takens–Newhouse scenario, respectively. In previous works we showed, both experimentally and theoretically, that the complex oscillations are generated by the coupling among the nonlinear kinetics and the transport phenomena, the latter due to concentration and density gradients. High-frequency modification of the central Mediterranean seafloor environment over the last 74 ka

Here we present a high-resolution record of benthic foraminiferal assemblages for the last 74 kyr from the Sicily Channel Ocean Drilling Program Leg 160 Site 963. Benthic foraminiferal results are compared with geochemical (benthic and planktic δ18O and δ13C) and calcareous plankton data, previously acquired on the same marine core sediments. Within the succession, three benthic foraminifera compositional zones were defined. Precision measurement of the B-s(0)-(B)over-bar(s)(0) oscillation frequency with the decay B-s(0) -> D-s(-)pi(+)

A key ingredient to searches for physics beyond the Standard Model in $B^{0}_{s}$ mixing phenomena is the measurement of the $B^{0}_{s}$-$\bar{B}^{0}_{s}$ oscillation frequency, which is equivalent to the mass difference $\Delta m_{s}$ of the $B^{0}_{s}$ mass eigenstates. Using the world's largest $B^{0}_{s}$ meson sample accumulated in a dataset, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb$^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb experiment at the CERN LHC in 2011, a measurement of $\Delta m_{s}$ is presented. New measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) by the Planck mission have greatly increased our knowledge about the universe. Dark radiation, a weakly interacting component of radiation, is one of the important ingredients in our cosmological model which is testable by Planck and other observational probes. At the moment, the possible existence of dark radiation is an unsolved question. The stable isotope composition of lacustrine sediments is routinely used to infer Late Holocene changes in precipitation over Scandinavia and, ultimately, atmospheric circulation dynamics in the North Atlantic realm. Essential norm estimates for composition operators on BMOA

Abstract We provide two function-theoretic estimates for the essential norm of a composition operator C φ acting on the space BMOA; one in terms of the n-th power φ n of the symbol φ and one which involves the Nevanlinna counting function. We also show that if the symbol φ is univalent, then the essential norm of C φ is comparable to its essential norm on the Bloch space.

The Approach Behavior to Angry Words in Athletes—A Pilot Study

An increasing number of studies have found that athletes have a higher level of aggression than non-athletes. Anger is an important factor in the generation of aggressive behavior, and anger has been found to relate to both approach behavior and avoidance behavior. The present pilot study compared the aggression level of athletes and non-athletes using the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire, and examined the responses of participants to anger-related stimuli using the manikin task, a paradigm that measures approach-avoidance behavior. Buckling and nonlinear dynamics of elastically coupled double-beam systems

Abstract This paper deals with damped transverse vibrations of elastically coupled double-beam system under even compressive axial loading. Each beam is assumed to be elastic, extensible and supported at the ends. The related stationary problem is proved to admit both unimodal (only one eigenfunction is involved) and bimodal (two eigenfunctions are involved) buckled solutions, and their number depends on structural parameters and applied axial loads. The occurrence of a so complex structure of the steady states motivates a global analysis of the longtime dynamics. Abelian realization of phenomenological two-zero neutrino textures

2014

In an attempt at explaining the observed neutrino mass-squared differences and leptonic mixing, lepton mass matrices with zero textures have been widely studied. In the weak basis where the charged lepton mass matrix is diagonal, various neutrino mass matrices with two zeros have been shown to be consistent with the current experimental data. Using the canonical and Smith normal form methods, we construct the minimal Abelian symmetry realizations of these phenomenological two-zero neutrino textures. The implementation of these symmetries in the context of the seesaw mechanism for Majorana neutrino masses is also discussed.
