Solution of the Skyrme–Hartree–Fock–Bogolyubov equations in the Cartesian deformed harmonic-oscillator basis.

2012

We describe the new version (v2.38j) of the code hfodd which solves the nuclear SkyrmeHartree-Fock or Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov problem by using the Cartesian deformed harmonic-oscillator basis. In the new version, we have implemented: (i) projection on good angular momentum (for the Hartree-Fock states), (ii) calculation of the GCM kernels, (iii) calculation of matrix elements of the Yukawa interaction, (iv) the BCS solutions for statedependent pairing gaps, (v) the HFB solutions for broken simplex symmetry, (vi) calculation of Bohr deformation parameters, (vii) constraints on the Schiff moments and scalar multipole moments, (viii) the D T transformations and rotations of wave functio…

Some remarks on few recent results on the damped quantum harmonic oscillator

2020

Abstract In a recent paper, Deguchi et al. (2019), the authors proposed an analysis of the damped quantum harmonic oscillator in terms of ladder operators. This approach was shown to be partly incorrect in Bagarello et al. (2019), via a simple no-go theorem. More recently, (Deguchi and Fujiwara, 2019), Deguchi and Fujiwara claimed that our results in Bagarello et al. (2019) are wrong, and compute what they claim is the square integrable vacuum of their annihilation operators. In this brief note, we show that their vacuum is indeed not a vacuum, and we try to explain what is behind their mistakes in Deguchi et al. (2019) and Deguchi and Fujiwara (2019). We also propose a very simple example …

A fully manipulable damped driven harmonic oscillator using optical levitation

2020

We implement an experimental system based on optical levitation of a silicone oil droplet to demonstrate a damped driven harmonic oscillator. The apparatus allows us to control all the parameters present in the differential equation that theoretically describes such motion. The damping coefficient and driving force can be manipulated in situ by changing the pressure in the apparatus and by applying a variable electric field. We present two different experimental procedures. First, a transition from the overdamped to underdamped regimes is demonstrated by gradually lowering the air pressure. The characteristic resonance associated with an underdamped driven harmonic oscillator is observed by…

Pressure dependence of the exciton absorption and the electronic subband structure of aGa0.47In0.53As/Al0.48In0.52As multiple-quantum-well system

1992

We have measured the optical absorption of a ${\mathrm{Ga}}_{0.47}$${\mathrm{In}}_{0.53}$As/${\mathrm{Al}}_{0.48}$${\mathrm{In}}_{0.52}$As multiple quantum well at 10 K for pressures up to 7 GPa. The energies of optical transitions between heavy- and light-hole subbands and electron levels of the wells show a blueshift with pressure similar to the bulk lowest direct band gap. We observe a decrease with pressure of the energy splitting between heavy- and light-hole subbands with the same quantum number n. From the analysis of the absorption line shape, we have obtained the pressure dependences of exciton binding energies, oscillator strengths, and linewidths. These results are interpreted in…

Baryon Properties with Three-Quark Forces

1987

The Constituent Quark Model (CQM) is very useful for the description of many baryon properties, leading to a fair agreement with the experimental data, especially in the case of the baryon spectrum 1) and of the electromagnetic processes involving baryons2,3). The model is based on a non relativistic QCD-inspired dynamics, which includes a confinement potential and a spin-dependent short-range part, the so called hyperfine interaction4,1). The confinement potential contains as its major part a harmonic oscillator (h.o.) interaction, which has however a too degenerate spectrum with respect to the experimental one and leads to an unreasonable damping of the form factors even at moderate momen…

Towards a novel energy density functional for beyond-mean-field calculations with pairing and deformation

2018

We take an additional step towards the optimization of the novel finite-range pseudopotential at constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov level and implement an optimization procedure within an axial code using harmonic oscillator basis. We perform the optimization using three different numbers of the harmonic oscillator shells. We apply the new parameterizations in the O-Kr part of the nuclear chart and isotopic chain of Sn, and we compare the results with experimental values and those given by a parameterization obtained using a spherical code.

Phonon-to-spin mapping in a system of a trapped ion via optimal control

2015

We propose a protocol for measurement of the phonon number distribution of a harmonic oscillator based on selective mapping to a discrete spin-1/2 degree of freedom. We consider a system of a harmonically trapped ion, where a transition between two long-lived states can be driven with resolved motional sidebands. The required unitary transforms are generated by amplitude-modulated polychromatic radiation fields, where the time-domain ramps are obtained from numerical optimization by application of the chopped random basis algorithm (CRAB). We provide a detailed analysis of the scaling behavior of the attainable fidelities and required times for the mapping transform with respect to the size…

Three-body forces in the quark model

2008

The constituent quark model has been very useful for the description of many physical properties of baryons, achieving in most cases a fair agreement with the experimental data 1 The model is based on a non relativistic QCD-inspired dynamics including a harmonic oscillator (h.o.) confinement potential and a spin dependent (hyperfine) interaction. The use of Lovelace coordinates p, ~ avoides any problem with the center of mass motion, while the h.o. potential provides a simple basis for ana ly t ica l calculations, which is a very important feature for many applications, like the evaluation of form factors and Meson Exchange Currents 2. On the other hand the h.o. spectrum is too degenerate w…

Analysis of the transition from normal modes to local modes in a system of two harmonically coupled Morse oscillators

1992

The system consisting of two Morse oscillators coupled via either a potential or a kinetic quadratic term is considered. The corresponding classical equations of motion have been numerically integrated and the initial conditions have been systematically analyzed in the regime of low total excitation energy of the system. Particular attention was paid to the full characterization of an intermediate type of motion, herein called transition mode, which appears at total energy values in between those typical of normal modes and those where local and normal modes coexist. A previously proposed perturbative approach (Jaffe C, Brumer P (1980) J Chem Phys 73:5646) is reanalyzed and compared with th…

Creating highly squeezed vacua in hybrid Laguerre-Gauss modes

2009

In this communication we study the above threshold quantum properties of a degenerate optical parametric oscillator (DOPO) tuned to a given transverse mode family at the signal frequency. We will show that under this configuration DOPOs are versatile sources of nonclassical light, in which one could be able to generate highly squeezed vacua with the non trivial shapes of Hybrid Laguerre-Gauss modes.
