This study investigated effects of a 16-week progressive resistance training program (RTP) with elastic bands at two different intensities on systemic redox state, DNA damage, and physical function in healthy older women. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned to the high-intensity group (HIGH; n = 39), moderate-intensity group (MOD; n = 31), or control group (CG; n = 23). The synthesis of alkyl aryl ketones using a mandelic acid dioxolanone as a synthetic equivalent (Umpolung) of the benzoyl carbanion is reported. The methodology involves alkylation of the mandelic acid dioxolanone, hydrolysis of the dioxolanone moiety in the alkylated products and oxidative decarboxylation of the resulting alpha-hydroxyacids. The last step is carried out in a catalytic aerobic way using a Co (III) complex in the presence of pivalaldehyde under very mild conditions.

A highly efficient metal-free catalytic system for the aerobic photocyanation of tertiary amines with visible light is reported. The use of air as terminal oxidant offers an improved safety profile compared with pure oxygen, the used compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) light sources are highly economical, and no halogenated solvents are required. CyaC, a redox-regulated adenylate cyclase of Sinorhizobium meliloti with a quinone responsive diheme-B membrane anchor domain.

The nucleotide cyclase CyaC of Sinorhizobium meliloti is a member of class III adenylate cyclases (AC), a diverse group present in all forms of life. CyaC is membrane-integral by a hexahelical membrane domain (6TM) with the basic topology of mammalian ACs. The 6TM domain of CyaC contains a tetra-histidine signature that is universally present in the membrane anchors of bacterial diheme-B succinate-quinone oxidoreductases. Heterologous expression of cyaC imparted activity for cAMP formation from ATP to Escherichia coli, whereas guanylate cyclase activity was not detectable. Spectrophotometric determination of promazine with an oxidative column in FIA manifolds

Abstract A simple flow-injection spectrophotometric method for the determination of promazine is described. The two proposed procedures are based on the oxidation of analyte with a manganese dioxide column. Concentrations of promazine in the ranges 2–20 and 1–6 are determined with a relative standard deviation of 1.0%. The injection rates are 62 and 80 samples h −1 , respectively. The influence of foreign species and the determination of promazine in a pharmaceutical formulation are also reported.

Zeolites are suitable microporous hosts for positively charged organic species, but it is believed that they cannot adsorb organic anions. Pure Meisenheimer complex, derived from reduction of 2,4-dinitroaniline with NaBH4, was adsorbed inside faujasite cavities. The aim of the study was to investigate mitochondrial electron transfer during rat liver reperfusion after cold storage and hypothermic machine perfusion. Livers from male Brown Norway rats were preserved (UW) for 10h either by cold storage (CS) or by hypothermic oxygenated perfusion extracorporal (HOPE). Electronic Interactions in a New π-Extended Tetrathiafulvalene Dimer

The first pi-extended tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) dimer in which the two exTTF units are covalently connected by 1,3-dithiole rings has been obtained in a multistep synthetic procedure involving the Ullmann cross-coupling reaction by using copper(I) thiophene-2-carboxylate (CuTC). The electronic spectrum reveals a significant electronic interaction between the exTTF units.
